The history of Bengal has come alive at the Eco Park in New Town, through the Sculpture Garden on History of Bengal, which was inaugurated yesterday by the Urban Development Minister.

The nature park is the idea of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee – it was her idea to convert the huge area surrounding a lake into Eco Park, which she formally named Prakriti Tirtha.

The sculpture garden is meant to celebrate the glorious legacy of the history and culture of Bengal. Young and talented artistes have made beautiful life-like relief sculptures. The garden would also host daily 45-minute light-and-sound shows in English and Bengali in the evenings.

The murals depict personalities, events and time periods intrinsically linked with Bengal. They are titled as the following: Shri Chaitanya and the Middle Age Renaissance of Bengal; The Battle of Plassey; Shri Aurobindo – India and International Spiritualism; Satyajit Ray and his World; Santhal Rebellion; Ram Mohun Roy and the Renaissance of Bengal; Swami Vivekananda – Call of Youth and his Activities; Anandamath – Bankim Chandra, The Awakening of Bengal and India; Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose – Azad Hind Fauj and his Revolution; From Lalan Fakir to Kazi Nazrul Islam – A Different Spirit of Revolution and Culture; Rabindranath Tagore – Viswabharati Movement.

 

বাংলার ভাস্কর্য্যের ইতিহাস উদ্যান উদ্বোধন হল ইকো পার্কে

ইকো পার্কে উদ্বোধন হল বাংলার ভাস্কর্য্যের ইতিহাস উদ্যান। উদ্বোধন করলেন পুর ও নগরোন্নয়ন মন্ত্রী।

২০১১ তে ক্ষমতায় আসার পর এই বিশাল অঞ্চলকে সুসজ্জিত করে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় গড়ে তোলেন ইকো পার্ক; নাম দেন প্রকৃতি তীর্থ।

এই উদ্যানে থাকছে নানা রকম ভাস্কর্য্যের নিদর্শন। থাকছে বাংলার মধ্য যুগের নবজাগরণের অন্যতম পথিকৃৎ শ্রী চৈতন্য, ভারতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক অধ্যাত্মবাদ, থাকবেন ঋষি অরবিন্দ, অস্কার বিজয়ী সত্যজিৎ রায় ও তাঁর জগত।

এছাড়া থাকছে বাংলার নবজাগরণের রুপকার রাজা রামমোহন রায়, যুব সমাজের প্রতীক স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ, থাকবে আনন্দমঠ, বঙ্কিমচন্দ্র, বাংলা ও ভারতের নবজাগরণ, নেতাজী সুভাষ চন্দ্র বসু-আজাদ হিন্দ ফৌজ ও তাঁর বিদ্রোহ, লালন ফকির থেকে কাজী নজরুল ইসলাম-বিদ্রোহ ও সংস্কৃতির বিভিন্ন অঙ্গ, রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ও বিশ্বভারতী।

এছাড়া আরেকটি বড় আকর্ষণ থাকছে; প্রতি সন্ধ্যায় ৪৫মিনিটের বাংলা ও ইংরাজিতে একটি লাইট ও সাউন্ড শো হবে এখানে।

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a media interaction at Nabanna today after a meeting between the State Government and representatives of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM). The meeting was called by the State’s Chief Secretary to discuss issues regarding the tea gardens in the hills.

The Government has asked all concerned parties, including the garden owners, the unions and tea associations, to reopen the tea gardens and pay the workers the bonus due to them. Another meeting would be held on September 21 in Siliguri with the Labour Commissioner to finalise these issues.

The Chief Minister said the government wanted to know from the Hill leaders how the people in the Hills were faring. She said the situation in the region had improved now. The State Government has always wanted development and peace in the Hills. She wished her brothers and sisters in the Hills well.

Mamata Banerjee also offered her greetings to the people on the occasion of Durga Puja. The inauguration of various pandals started from today.

 

 

চা বাগানের শ্রমিকদের পুজোর বোনাস দেওয়া হোকঃ মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়

 

আজ নবান্নে গোর্খা জনমুক্তি মোর্চার প্রতিনিধিদের সঙ্গে বৈঠক করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। বৈঠকের পর সাংবাদিক দের মুখোমুখি হয়ে তিনি জানান, “আজ মুখ্য সচিব একটি বৈঠক ডেকেছেন। গোর্খা জনমুক্তি মোর্চার প্রতিনিধিরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন বৈঠকে। চা বাগান নিয়ে আলোচনা হয়েছে”।

চা বাগান খুলে দিতে ও শ্রমিকদের বোনাস দিতে বলা হয়েছে। আগামী ২১ তারিখ একটি বৈঠক হবে এবং সেখানে সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হবে।

তিনি আরও বলেন, “আমরা জানতে চেয়েছি পাহাড়ের মানুষজন কেমন আছেন। পাহাড় এখন অনেক স্বাবাভিক হয়ে গেছে। আমরা পাহাড়ের উন্নয়ন চাই, শান্তি চাই। পাহাড় অনেকটাই স্বাভাবিক হয়ে গেছে। পাহাড়ের ভাই বোন ভালো থাকুক”।

তাঁর কথায়, “কোনরকম সন্ত্রাসবাদী কার্যকলাপ আমরা বরদাস্ত করব না, সরকার তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থা নেবে”।

Commuters in the city will soon be able to travel on pollution-free buses. These buses will run, not on diesel or CNG, but on electricity with the help of rechargeable batteries.

Referred to as ‘electric buses’ by the Transport Department, 25 such vehicles will initially ply in the city on a trial basis. It has been decided that for starters, these buses would be recharged at the various tram depots in the city. Their routes would also be fixed from there.

A Department source said that the West Bengal Transport Corporation has experience in operating electric vehicles. Trams, which have been plying in Kolkata for over a century now, are a primary example. Hence, the electric buses would also have their depots in the tram depots, which already have electrical infrastructure.

It may be pointed out that running electric buses is comparatively much cheaper than running fuel-run buses. They are not just pollution-free from exhaust but also from noise, the levels of which are much less compared to conventional buses. Keeping all these advantages in mind, the Department has decided to go ahead with the pilot project. The number of such buses will be increased later.

 

কলকাতায় চালু হবে ইলেকট্রিক বাস

আর কিছু দিনের মধ্যে শহরের যাত্রীরা এবার দুষণহীন বাসে সফর করতে চলেছেন। কারণ বাসগুলো হবে ব্যাটারিচালিত। এ ধরনের বাসে থাকে রিচার্জেবল ব্যাটারি। আর সেই ব্যাটারির বিদ্যুতেই বাস চলে। পরিবহন দপ্তর এটিকেই বলছে ইলেকট্রিক বাস।

প্রথম দফায় ২৫টি বাস পরীক্ষামূলকভাবে চলবে কলকাতায়। এ ধরনের বাস সাধারণ বাস থেকে আলাদা হয়। প্রাথমিকভাবে ঠিক হয়েছে, কলকাতার ট্রাম ডিপো থেকে এই বাসের রুট তৈরি করা হবে।

দপ্তরের এক সূত্রের বক্তব্য, বিদ্যুৎ চালিত যান চালানোর অভিজ্ঞতা পশ্চিমবঙ্গ পরিবহন নিগমের রয়েছে। বহু বছর ধরেই কলকাতায় চলছে বিদ্যুৎ চালিত ট্রাম। তাই ট্রাম ডিপোগুলোতে বিদ্যুৎ সংক্রান্ত কিছু পরিকাঠামো তৈরিই রয়েছে। এখানেই নয়া বাসের ব্যাটারিগুলো চার্জ দেওয়া যেতে পারে।

ওই সূত্রের কথায়, এ ধরনের বাস চালানোর খরচ তুলনামূলকভাবে অনেক কম এবং এই বাস পরিবেশবান্ধব। এ ধরনের বাস থেকে শব্দও কম হয় এবং খনিজ তেলও লাগে না। সেসব বিবেচনায় এনেই এই বাস চালানোর পরিকল্পনা করা হচ্ছে।

পরবর্তীকালে ইলেকট্রিক বাসের সংখ্যা আরও বাড়ানো হতে পারে বলে পরিবহন মহল সূত্রের খবর।

The Bengal Government’s measures to weave events and initiatives around the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, as part of efforts to further popularise football among the young generation and take it to the grassroots, continues.

Now, the Education Department has taken a decision to arrange for 5,000 students to watch every World Cup match to be held at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata for free. The students will be selected from only among those who take part in sports.

Ten matches, including the final, are scheduled for the venue, which has been extensively modernised and renovated for the quadrennial showpiece.

All logistical requirements for watching the matches have been taken care of by the department. Besides reserving seats for 5,000 students for every match, 70 AC and non-AC buses for transport have been arranged too. Students coming from faraway places will be put up for the nights, if needed.

Students from schools, colleges, madrasahs and polytechnics – 2,000 each from schools and colleges, and 500 each from madrasahs and polytechnics – will be selected for every match. Schools and colleges have been asked to prepare lists of students who are interested in watching the matches.

 

ছাত্রছাত্রীদের বিনামূল্যে যুব বিশ্বকাপ দেখাবে রাজ্য সরকার

 

স্কুল কলেজের উঠতি ফুটবলারদের বিনা পয়সায় অনূর্ধ্ব ১৭ বিশ্বকাপ দেখানোর ব্যবস্থা করেছে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার। প্রায় ৫ হাজার ছাত্র মাঠে বসে এই ম্যাচ দেখবে।

প্রতি ম্যাচে এই ৫হাজারের মধ্যে ২ হাজার স্কুলের, ২ হাজার কলেজের, ৫০০ মাদ্রাসা এবং ৫০০ পলিটেকনিক কলেজের ছাত্রছাত্রী থাকবে। যারা অনেক দূর থেকে আসছে তাদের জন্য থাকা, খাওয়ারও ব্যবস্থা করা হচ্ছে।

যুব ভারতীতে তাদের জন্য তৈরি করা হচ্ছে আলাদা বক্স, থাকছে বিশেষ বরাদ্দ সিট। রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তের স্কুল কলেজ থেকে ছাত্রছাত্রীরা আসবে এই ম্যাচ দেখতে। যারা স্কুল কলেজে বিভিন্ন প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণ করে শুধুমাত্র তারাই পাবে এই ম্যাচ দেখার সুযোগ।

বিদেশি খেলোয়াড়দের স্কিল চোখের সামনে থেকে দেখার সুযোগ পাবে তারা। এসি ও নন এসি মিলিয়ে ৭০ টি বাসের ব্যবস্থা করা হয়েছে। রাজ্য সরকারের এই পদক্ষেপে স্বভাবতই ফুটবলপ্রেমী ছাত্রছাত্রীদের মধ্যে খুশির জোয়ার।

Kolkata has managed to significantly bring down the number of accidents -both fatal and non-fatal -in 2016 in comparison with the previous year.

The launch of the Safe Drive Save Life campaign, coupled with strict enforcement of speed rules in the city seem to have made the difference, claim top Lalbazar officers.

According to the latest road accident report – based on leading cities of India – prepared by the Union ministry of road transport and highways, 2016 witnessed 388 fatal accidents on Kolkata’s streets. There were 421 fatal accidents in 2015 and 431 in 2014.

Not only did the number of fatal accidents fall by 7.8% but also the total figure of non-fatal accidents dropped by a substantial 18%.

A comparison with other cities will put things into perspective. In 2016, Delhi saw 1,591 people dying on roads and Chennai witnessed 1,183 deaths.

Similarly, there were a total of 4104 accidents in the city in 2016 compared to 4981 in 2015. The severity of accidents (number of persons killed per 100 accidents) is at an all-time low of 9.9, much lesser than Mumbai (16.6) or Delhi (21.6).The national average is 19.8.

Between July 8 and December 31, 2016 – after the safety drive was launched – number of deaths of helmetless drivers came down to 32 (from 61 during the corresponding period in 2015).

২০১৫র তুলনায় ২০১৬ সালে কলকাতায় পথ দুর্ঘটনায় হতাহতের সংখ্যা কমেছে আট শতাংশ। মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর চালু করা ‘সেফ ড্রাইভ সেভ লাইফ’ সচেতনতা অভিযানের পাশাপাশি গাড়ির গতিবিধির ওপর কঠোর নজরদারির ফলে এটি সম্ভব হয়েছে।

কেন্দ্রীয় সড়ক পরিবহণ মন্ত্রকের পেশ করা রিপোর্টে দেখা গেছে ২০১৬ সালে কলকাতার রাস্তায় মর্মান্তিক পথ দুর্ঘটনা ঘটেছে ৩৮৮টি। ২০১৪তে যে সংখ্যা ছিল ৪৩১ ও ২০১৫ সালে ৪২১টি। পাশাপাশি, ২০১৬ সালে কলকাতায় পথ দুর্ঘটনার সংখ্যা ৪১০৪, যা ২০১৫ সালে ছিল ৪৯৮১।

শুধু যে মর্মান্তিক পথ দুর্ঘটনা ৮ শতাংশ কমেছে, তাই নয়। পথ দুর্ঘটনার সংখ্যাও কমেছে ১৮ শতাংশ।

অন্যান্য শহরের তুলনায় কলকাতায় দুর্ঘটনার সংখ্যা অনেকটাই কম। ২০১৬ সালে দিল্লীতে মর্মান্তিক পথ দুর্ঘটনা ঘটেছে ১৫৯১টি, চেন্নাইতে ঘটেছে ১১৮৩টি।

দুর্ঘটনার প্রকটতা (প্রতি ১০০টি দুর্ঘটনায় মৃতের সংখ্যা) সব থেকে কম কলকাতাতেই, ৯.৯%। যা মুম্বই (১৬.৬%), দিল্লী (২১.৬%) বা জাতীয় গড় (১৯.৮%) এর তুলনায় অনেক কম।

সেফ ড্রাইভ সেভ লাইফ সচেতনতা অভিযানের পর ৮ই জুলাই থেকে ৩১শে ডিসেম্বর ২০১৬ এর মধ্যে হেলমেটবিহীন বাইক আরোহীর মৃত্যু কমে দাঁড়িয়েছে ৩২এ (যা ২০১৫ সালে ছিল ৬১টি)।

The refurbished Salt Lake Stadium, which will host the final of the Fifa U-17 World Cup, handed over to FIFA today by Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Giving it a 10/10 rating, LOC tournament director Javier Ceppi said the revamped stadium is at par with any world-class venue that has hosted a Fifa World Cup final.

“If you ask me it looks like a museum, be the entrance or the inside. Or like the teams said it looks the lobby of a five-star hotel,” Ceppi said, thanking West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for getting the work done in two and half years’ time.

“They (West Bengal government) took the challenge. This stadium now can be compared to other stadiums in the world that have hosted a Fifa World Cup final.”

The revamp of the stadium, formally known as Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan, which was taken up on February 1, 2015, cost the West Bengal government more than Rs 100 crore.

বিবেকানন্দ যুব ভারতী ক্রীড়াঙ্গনে অনুষ্ঠিত হতে চলেছে অনূর্ধ্ব ১৭ বিশ্বকাপের ফাইনাল। আজ নবরূপে বিবেকানন্দ যুব ভারতী ক্রীড়াঙ্গনের উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

স্থানীয় আয়োজক কমিটির ডিরেক্টর জাভিয়ার কেপি এই নতুন ক্রীড়াঙ্গনের ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করেন। তিনি বলেন, ফিফা বিশ্বকাপ ফাইনাল যে যে মাঠে খেলা হয়, এই মাঠটিও এখন সেই মানের।

রাজ্য সরকার ১০০ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে এই স্টেডিয়ামের সংস্কার করেছে। এত অল্প সময়ে মাঠকে নতুন ভাবে সাজিয়ে তোলার জন্য তিনি রাজ্য সরকার ও মুখ্যমন্ত্রীকে ধন্যবাদ জানান।

With Durga Puja almost at our doorsteps, the State Transport Department is gearing up to make the occasion a pleasant one for all concerned.

It is making plans to make it viable for people to avail bus services all without any hassle during the Puja days. During the four days, 1,100 buses would be operating in the city from 6 am to 12 midnight.

The department has also made plans for special ferry services for people to view the immersion ceremony of different Puja organisers. Two ferries have been added to the fleet run by the Water Transport Directorate, which would be made available for people to board to see the immersion of the goddess Durga.

পুজোর প্রস্তুতি শুরু পরিবহণ দপ্তরের

দুর্গা পুজোর কথা মাথায় রেখে সাজো সাজো রব পরিবহণ দপ্তরে। রাজ্যজুড়ে পুজোর দিনগুলোর কথা মাথায় রেখে কিভাবে একইসঙ্গে শহরের পরিবহণ ব্যবস্থা ঠিক রাখার পাশাপাশি প্রতিমা দর্শনেরও সুযোগ করে দেওয়া যায় নগরবাসীদের তার পরিকল্পনা চলছে।

পুজোর সময় সকাল ৬ টা থেকে রাত ১২ টা পর্যন্ত সরকারি বাস পাবেন যাত্রী ও দর্শনার্থীদের দল। পুজর কটা দিন ১১০০ সরকারি বাস চলবে।

বিসর্জন দেখার জন্য বিশেষ নৌকা বিহারেরও ব্যবস্থা করছে রাজ্য পরিবহণ দপ্তর। সম্প্রতি জল পরিবহণ বিভাগের ভাণ্ডারে যোগ হয়েছে ২টি ভেসেল। এবার পর্যটক ও দর্শনার্থীদের কলকাতার বিসর্জন দেখার কাজে ব্যবহার করা হবে এই ২টি ভেসেলও।

After its immense success in Kolkata, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s dream project, Sukanya, which provides self-defence training to girls, is going to be introduced in the Bidhannagar, Howrah and Barrackpore police commissionerates.

Kolkata Police had introduced the project following the direction of the Chief Minister. Besides giving lessons in taekwondo, judo, kickboxing and aikido to make school girls self-reliant for their protection, the initiative has provided an international platform to the girls – they have won five golds, two silvers and two bronze medals in the 2016 Kickboxing World Cup held in Russia.

The same project will now be replicated in the three commissionerates. Initially, girl students from 25 schools from the three commissionerates will be given training. For example, 10 schools have been selected in Howrah, and 40 students from each school in two batches will be trained in the first six months. On completion of training, the girls will get a certificate.

রাজ্য সরকারের সুকন্যা প্রকল্প এবার তিন কমিশনারেটেও

কলকাতায় অভূতপূর্ব সাফল্যের পর মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের স্বপ্নের সুকন্যা প্রকল্প এবার তিন কমিশনারেটেও – বিধাননগর, বারাকপুর ও হাওড়া – শুরু হবে। এই প্রকল্পে মেয়েদের আত্মসুরক্ষার প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হয়।

কলকাতা পুলিশ এই প্রকল্প শুরু করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর নির্দেশে। তাইকোন্ডো, কিকবক্সিং, জুডো, আইকিডো শেখানো হয় এই প্রকল্পে।

বাংলার সুকন্যারা পৌঁছেছে আন্তর্জাতিক স্তরে। সুকন্যা প্রকল্পে প্রশিক্ষণ প্রাপ্ত বাংলার মেয়েরা পাঁচটি সোনা, দুটি রুপো, দুটি ব্রোঞ্জ পদক জিতেছে ২০১৬ কিকবক্সিং বিশ্ব কাপে। এই বিশ্ব কাপ প্রতিযোগিতা অনুষ্ঠিত হয় রাশিয়াতে।

প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ে ২৫টি স্কুলের মেয়েদের এই প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হবে। যেমন, হাওড়ায় ১০টি স্কুলে ৪০জন করে ছাত্রীকে দুটি ব্যাচে ছয় মাস ধরে প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হবে। প্রশিক্ষণ শেষ হলে তারা পাবে শংসাপত্র।

The investigation and intelligence wing of Bengal’s police force, CID (Criminal Investigation Department) is soon going to come out with an app, ‘Suraksha Sathi’ to enable people to send information anonymously to the police, which can be of immense help.

It must be mentioned that the police force in Bengal has done a lot in the last few years to form a closer bond with the people, from launching apps for establishing a police-public interface (‘Bondhu’ app by Kolkata Police) to running self-defence programmes for women (‘Suraksha’) to conducting public awareness programmes all through the year.

The Suraksha Sathi app is another effort at reaching out to the public. Through this app, anyone can send information regarding any crime or suspicious activity to the police, and also complaints against any errant cop.

Another useful aspect about this app is that any user can send information to the police if he/she himself/herself is in trouble too.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wants the public to work hand-in-hand with the police everywhere in the state, and become an integral part of law-keeping. The Suraksha Sathi app is a major step up towards achieving that aim. After all, a little caution on the part of everyone would be a big step towards upholding the security of the state.

রাজ্যবাসী একটু সতর্ক হলে বাইরের শত্রু ঘরে ঢুকতে পারবে না-এটাই চান মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। অনেকের কাছে হয়ত তথ্য-প্রমাণ রয়েছে। কিন্তু তাঁরা এ সব বিষয়ে মুখ খুলতে চান না। বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যবহারের মাধ্যমে সাধারণ মানুষকে পাশে চাইছে প্রশাসন। তার প্রথম পদক্ষেপ হল ‘সুরক্ষা সাথী অ্যাপ’। এই অ্যাপের মাধ্যমে আপনি সব রকম তথ্য সেখানে দিতে পারবেন। আপলোড করতে পারবেন ছবি। আপনার নামধাম কেউ জানতে পারবেন না।

সিআইডি চাইছে রাজ্যের মানুষ পুলিশের সঙ্গে হাতে হাত মিলিয়ে অপরাধ কমাতে সাহায্য করুক। মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর উদ্যোগেই সিআইডি আরও সতর্ক এবং এই ধরনের পদক্ষেপ নিয়েছে। পুলিশ মানে ভয়ের কিছু নয়, পুলিশ মানুষের সঙ্গে রয়েছে এবং থাকবে।

এই অ্যাপে যুক্ত হলে আরও অনেক সুবিধা পাবেন আপ ব্যবহারকারীরা। নিজে কোনও সমস্যায় পড়লে, তা সহজেই পৌঁছে যাবে সিআইডি-র কাছে। এতে আপনি পুলিশের বন্ধু হতে পারেন। নিজের রাজ্যের জন্য একটু দায়িত্বশীল হলেই নিজের ঘরও নিরাপদ থাকবে।

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today held a press conference at the State secretariat, Nabanna, to announce that the president of the central committee of the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) has written to the Bengal Government, asking for a “high-level intervention to end the present crisis in the Hill areas of Darjeeling” and has “humbly requested for talks to restore peace and normalcy in the Hills”.

The Chief Minister said that the Government, ever eager to bring normalcy to the Darjeeling and the entire Hills region, has “decided to respond positively to the request”, setting August 29 as the date for a meeting at which not only GNLF but “all major political parties will be called”. The meeting will be held at Nabanna from 4 pm. That the Government is attaching importance to the fact that GNLF has extended the hand of friendship to the Government was also borne out when she said, “GNLF is a very old party”.

She said, “Representatives of the development boards will also be called to the meeting”. Mamata Banerjee also extended an open invitation to all “political parties that think on similar lines as the GNLF”, saying they are “welcome to join” as well.

“We are in favour of peace, normalcy and development. We are ready to talk to anyone who is in favour of peace and normalcy. I had myself chaired a meeting with all the chairpersons of the development boards”, said the Chief Minister in the course of the press conference.

Underlining once again the policy of the State Government, the Chief Minister said, “We want development of the Hills. I appeal to my brothers and sisters in the Hills to cooperate with us to restore peace and normalcy there. Working together is essential for the development of the Hills and of the State as a whole”.

দার্জিলিঙের এ শান্তি ফিরিয়ে আনার জন্য আলোচনার আবেদন জানিয়ে গতকাল GNLF এর কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটি-র সভাপতি মুখ্যমন্ত্রীকে একটি চিঠি দেন। সেই চিঠির সদর্থক জবাব দিয়ে আজ নবান্নে একটি সাংবাদিক সম্মেলন করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

সাংবাদিক সম্মেলনে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর বক্তব্যের কিছু অংশঃ

GNLF এর Central Committee-র সভাপতি গতকাল আমাদের একটা চিঠি পাঠিয়েছেন দার্জিলিঙে স্বাভাবিক অবস্থা ফিরিয়ে আনার জন্য একটি বৈঠক করার জন্য। দার্জিলিঙে শান্তি ফিরিয়ে আনার জন্য একটি উচ্চ পর্যায়ের বৈঠকের অনুরোধ জানিয়েছেন তারা।

আমি ওদের অনুরোধের প্রেক্ষিতে respond করছি। যারা শান্তি ও উন্নয়নের পক্ষে, তাদের সঙ্গে সরকার সব সময় কথা বলতে পারে। কথা বলাটা রাজনৈতিক সৌজন্যতা। আমরাও চাই উন্নয়ন হোক, শান্তি আসুক। এর আগে আমি দার্জিলিঙের উন্নয়ন পর্ষদগুলির চেয়ারম্যানদের নিয়ে একটা বৈঠক করেছিলাম। GNLF অনেক পুরনো দল। ওনারা কথা বলতে চান, এটা একটা শুভ সংকেত, constructive সংকেত।

আমরা সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছি আগামী ২৯ তারিখ বিকেল ৪ টেয় নবান্নে একটি বৈঠক করব, যারা শান্তির পক্ষে, পরিস্থিতি স্বাভাবিক রাখতে চান তাদের নিয়ে। মেজর পলিটিকাল পার্টির নেতারা সহ সব উন্নয়ন পর্ষদের প্রতিনিধিরা থাকবেন এই বৈঠকে। এই সিদ্ধান্তের সাথে যারা একমত সেইসব পার্টি চাইলে এগিয়ে আসতে পারেন।
আমরা পাহাড়ের উন্নয়ন চাই। আমরা চাই পাহাড়ে স্বাভাবিক অবস্থা ফিরে আসুক। পাহাড়ে শান্তি বজায় রাখার জন্য আমি পাহাড়ের ভাই বোনেদের আবেদন জানাচ্ছি। পাহাড় সহ সমগ্র রাজ্যের উন্নয়নের জন্য আমাদের একসাথে কাজ করা জরুরী।
