The Bangla Government is bringing bio-mining facilities at Dhapa to reduce the piling of wastes at the landfill site.

Gradually the government will come up with a factory adjacent to the landfill site at Dhapa, where the waste will be segregated into organic and inorganic substances. The organic waste will be turned into compost and can be used as soil-conditioner for agricultural activities. The inorganic material found in the waste such as plastics, rubber, cloth, leather, wood and glass items will be used by the cement industry.

A Korean company will make a presentation about scientific disposal of solid waste at the office of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority this week.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will reach Digha today to begin her administrative tour of Purba Medinipur district. This will be her first tour of the district after the Lok Sabha election.

She will be holding meetings with senior officials to get first-hand information about the various schemes and projects happening in the district, and also about the plans for the upcoming works.

Tomorrow, August 20, she will inaugurate the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre at Digha, which has been constructed by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).

Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has decided to set up a few foot overbridges on Kazi Nazrul Islam Sarani and Eastern Metropolitan Bypass for faster movement of traffic and safety of the pedestrians.

An underpass and a pedestrian footbridge will come up at Ruby intersection. The underpass will come up on the Mukundapur side while the foot overbridge will be constructed near the station of Garia-Airport Metro route. Experts suggested that there will be a huge concentration of people along EM Bypass and unless steps are not taken now, it will difficult to manage traffic and pedestrian movement in a few years’ time.

Foot overbridges will also come up at the intersection of Ajaynagar and Patuli. Both these areas are accident prone as pedestrians find it difficult to cross EM Bypass. The pedestrian flyover will create an uninterrupted flow of traffic along the stretch.

Foot overbridge will also come up at Dum Dum Park crossing. Once these foot overbridges come up, the time taken to travel to Kolkata Airport from Garia will lessen. Also, they will minimise the number of road accidents.

A unique floating market has come up in Patuli in Kolkata. This is a first-of-its-kind market in the State. The project is being implemented by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).

The market is similar to the ones on Dal Lake in Srinagar and in Bangkok.

There are 228 stalls, set up on 114 boats. There are zone-wise demarcations for fish, meat, vegetables, grocery, etc. Wooden ramps have been constructed over which people will walk to reach the boat (depending on the stall) of their choice.

Modern technology is being adopted to ensure proper oxidation of the water and thus maintain ecological balance. The surrounding path beside the water body, a canal, on which the market is being set up, is being decked up with paver blocks.

The market will be run through a cooperative. The prices will be similar to those in normal markets.

যাত্রা শুরু পাটুলির ভাসমান বাজারের

সূচনা হল রাজ্যের নবতম আকর্ষণের। পাটুলির ভাসমান বাজার চালু হয়েছে কিছুদিন আগে। কেএমডিএর তত্ত্বাবধানে সম্পন্ন হয়েছে এই প্রকল্প।

শ্রীনগর বা ব্যাংককের ভাসমান বাজারের মতই দেখতে এই বাজার। ১১৪টি নৌকোতে ২২৮টি দোকান থাকছে। মাছ, মাংস, ফল, সবজি – সবকিছুর আলাদা বাজার থাকবে। কাঠের মঞ্চ তৈরী করা হয়েছে যাতে ক্রেতারা নৌকাগুলি পর্যন্ত পৌঁছতে পারেন। এই বাজার পরিচালনা করবে সমবায়। সাধারন বাজারের মতই দাম হবে এই বাজারে।

পরিবেশ অক্ষুন্ন রেখেই এই জলাশয়ে ভাসমান বাজার গড়া হয়েছে। আগামী দিনেও পরিবেশ ও প্রকৃতির খেয়াল রাখা হবে।

এই জলাশয়ের চারপাশের রাস্তা ব্লক দিয়ে তৈরী করা হয়েছে।

The banks of the Adi Ganga along Baruipur are being renovated by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).

Just like Millennium Park and the waterside areas along the EM Bypass have been renovated, the banks of the Adi Ganga along the extended EM Bypass extending to Baruipur is being renovated.

Both the banks are getting flanked by borders made of environment-friendly material. Tiled pavements are being built along the Adi Ganga for residents to take walks, be it morning walks or evening walks or during any time of the day.

Flowering plants from India and other countries would flank the pavements and the banks of the river. After the project is completed, adequate security arrangements would be set up too.

আদিগঙ্গার সংস্কার-সৌন্দর্যায়ন শুরু

চাঁদ সওদাগরের সপ্তডিঙা মধুকর নামের বাণিজ্য নৌকা যে আদিগঙ্গা দিয়ে সিংহলে যেত, সেই পথের সৌন্দর্যায়ন শুরু করছে রাজ্য সরকার। সেই স্রোতধারা আজ স্তব্ধ, দূষিত, নোংরা জলে মলিন। হারিয়ে যেতে বসা মনসামঙ্গলের সেই প্রাচীন জনপথকে পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণের মাধ্যমে নয়া আঙ্গিকে ফিরিয়ে দিতে প্রকল্প বাস্তবায়নের নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

সেই নির্দেশ মেনে আদিগঙ্গার দুই তীরকে আকর্ষণের কেন্দ্রভূমি হিসেবে গড়ে তুলছে সেচ দপ্তর। গত ছয় বছরে কেএমডিএ-এর হাট ধরে সম্প্রসারিত বাইপাস আদিগঙ্গার দুপাশ দিয়ে কামালগাজি, বারুইপুর হয়ে লক্ষ্মীকান্তপুর শাখার শাসন স্টেশন ছুয়েছে। পাশে আছে বারুইপুর পুরসভার বিখ্যাত পিকনিক স্পট ‘আরন্যক’। বারুইপুর অংশে প্রায় পাঁচ-ছয় মিটার চওড়া পৌরাণিক এই নদীপথ। বিধানসভার মাননীয় স্পিকার চান, গাছ কাটা বন্ধ করে দূষণ থেকে জনপদকে বাঁচানোর পাশাপাশি ঐতিহাসিক-আদিগঙ্গার সংস্কার, সংরক্ষণ ও সৌন্দর্যায়ন।

প্রথম দফায় ১০ কোটি টাকায় পদ্মপুকুর থেকে বংশীবটতলা পর্যন্ত কাজ শুরু করেছে সেচ দপ্তর। দ্বিতীয় দফায় শাসন পর্যন্ত হবে। সেচমন্ত্রী জানিয়েছেন প্রথম দফার কাজ এক বছরের মধ্যে শেষ হবে।

স্পিকার বলেন, আদিগঙ্গার দুপাশই পরিবেশবান্ধব সামগ্রী দিয়ে বাঁধানো হচ্ছে। বাস্তুতন্ত্র মেনে ও জলীয় উদ্ভিদ এবং প্রাণীসম্পদকে বাঁচাতে বিশেষ ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হচ্ছে। এলাকার বাসিন্দারা যাতে হাঁটতে পারেন, সেজন্য ফুটপাথে ও রঙ্গীন টাইলসে মোড়া রাস্তা হচ্ছে। থাকবে ব্রিটিশ স্থাপত্যে মোড়া লোহার চেয়ার ও বর্ণময় ফোয়ারা। বসানো হবে দেশ বিদেশের বাহারি ফুল ও ফলের বর্ণময় সারি। রক্ষণাবেক্ষণ ও নজরদারির ব্যবস্থাও করছে পঞ্চায়েত ও পুরসভা।

Nalban facelift gets underway

The Nalban Food Park will look new within a few months. The state fisheries development corporation (SFDC) is working on a project worth Rs 1.67 crore to give the park a facelift with extension of the area, new lighting and seating arrangements and beautification of the water body in an eco-friendly way.

A development plan has been chalked out and a boundary wall has been set up, lighting and seating arrangements are being improved and eco-friendly toilets are being installed.

The project is being carried out towards the Sector V end of the Nalban bheri. No structural construction is being done since it falls under a wetland.

Earlier, the forest department, fisheries department and Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority conducted a survey, following which the beautification plan was cleared.

The overall plan is to develop the park as a tourist spot where visitors can spend time and have recreational activities. Keeping this in mind, the authorities even plan to develop it as a water park.
