It is now 20 years since All India Trinamool Congress was formed. From a small regional party in 1998, when it was formed under the leadership of the firebrand leader, Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Congress is now a force to reckon with in national politics.

Over these 20 years, there have been numerous memorable moments, and it would not be a feasible idea to list all of them here. However, let us take a look at 20 crucial events along the timeline of 20 years, events which have proved to all and sundry that Trinamool Congress always strives to serve the common people, come hell or high weather.
1. Formation of the party

Trinamool Congress was founded on January 1, 1998, and Mamata Banerjee was chosen as the leader of the party. In that year too, the party fought the general elections for the first time and significantly, won eight seats in the Lok Sabha from Bengal.

2. Railways Minister

After the 1999 general election, Mamata Banerjee became the Union Railways Minister, which she remained till 2001.

3. Winning the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC)

In 2000, Trinamool Congress fought in the election for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation for the first time, and won overwhelmingly. For the first time, the Kolkata Mayor was a Trinamool candidate.

4. First Assembly elections

In 2001, Trinamool Congress fought the State Assembly election for the first time, and won in 60 seats.

5. Keshpur and Garbeta massacres

On January 4, 2001, Trinamool workers were massacred in Chhoto Angariya by the workers of CPI(M).

6. Jago Bangla

In 2004, the official mouthpiece of All India Trinamool Congress, Jago Bangla was first published. It is a weekly publication.

7. Singur Movement

In 2006, the then State Government forcibly acquired 1,000 acres of prime farmland from farmers in Singur for a car factory. Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, started a huge movement to compel the government to return the plots to the unwilling farmers.

8. 26-day hunger strike

Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee undertook a hunger strike, which lasted for 26 days, against the forcible acquisition of 1,000 acres of farmland in Singur for a car factory by Tata Motors.

9. Nandigram Movement

In a re-run of Singur, in 2007 in Nandigram, the then State Government, tried to forcibly acquire agricultural land. A movement built up, again led by Trinamool Congress. On March 14 of that year, police fired indiscriminately on protesters, killing 14 people.

10. Panchayat election win

In the 2008 Panchayat election, Trinamool Congress put up a great show, forming the Zilla Parishad in East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas districts.

11. Lok Sabha win

In the 2009 general elections, Trinamool Congress won 19 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats from Bengal.

12. Second KMC win

In 2010, Trinamool Congress won the Kolkata Municipal Corporation for a second time, winning handsomely.

13. Assembly election win

In 2011, Trinamool Congress won a historic Assembly election, bringing to an end 34 years of Left Front rule. It formed the first Ma-Mati-Manush Government in Bengal under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee.

14. Decimation of Left in Panchayat polls

In 2013, Trinamool Congress won 13 out of 17 Zila Parishads in the State, decimating the Left Front completely.

15. Winning majority of the seats in Lok Sabha from Bengal

Achieving another milestone, in 2014, Trinamool Congress won 34 of the 42 seats in the Lok Sabha election, which is currently the fourth highest in the Lok Sabha.

16. 33% female MPs in Lok Sabha

In the 2014 election for the Lok Sabha, Trinamool Congress hit another milestone – 12 women became Members of Parliament (MP).

17. Victory in Municipal polls

In 2015, Trinamool Congress retained the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, as well as winning 77 other civic body elections. Trinamool Congress has thus proved its name – ‘trinamool’ means ‘grassroots’ – as it now has holds power in the majority of elected bodies in Bengal at all levels, and has brought about a golden reign of governance.

18. Second Assembly win

In 2016, Trinamool Congress won the Assembly election for a second consecutive time, this time more overwhelmingly than ever. The party, under the strident leadership of Mamata Banerjee, won 211 of the 294 seats, decimating the opposition with the power of the people. Mamata Banerjee became the Chief Minister for a second consecutive term.

19. Singur land returned

After the historic judgment by Supreme Court on August 31, 2006, the land acquisition at Singur was termed unconstitutional. Fulfilling her promise, Mamata Banerjee returned the land deeds to farmers in Singur in September.

20. National party

In recognition of the growing influence that Trinamool Congress is having in national politics, in 2016, the Election Commission recognised the party as a national party. Trinamool Congress thus became the seventh national party.

 

২০ বছরের স্মৃতি রোমন্থন

দেখতে দেখতে সর্বভারতীয় তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস ২০ বছর পেরিয়ে গেল। অনেক উত্থান পতনের মধ্যে দিয়ে বাংলার রাজনীতিতে নিজের জায়গা পাকাপাকি ভাবে তৈরী করে নিয়েছে তৃণমূল।

শুধু তাই নয়, বিগত সাড়ে ছয় বছর ধরে বাংলার শাসনভারে গ্রহণ করে মা,মাটি, মানুষের সেবায় নিমজ্জিত তৃণমূল। বাংলার পাশাপাশি দেশের রাজনীতিতেও নিজের গুরুত্ব বুঝিয়ে দিয়েছে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নেতৃত্বাধীন তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস, প্রায় নিজের জন্মলগ্ন থেকেই।

২০ বছরে এই দলের ইতিহাসে আছে অগণিত স্মরণীয় মুহূর্ত। দেখে নেওয়া যাক সেরকমই ২০টি অবিস্মরণীয় মুহূর্ত।

১. দল গঠন

১৯৯৮ সালের ১লা জানুয়ারি তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস দলটি তৈরী হয়। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় দলের নেত্রী নির্বাচিত হন। প্রথম বার লোকসভা ভোটে অংশ নিয়ে ৮টি আসনে জয়লাভ করে এই দল।

২. রেল মন্ত্রীত্ব

১৯৯৯ সালের পুনরায় লোকসভা নির্বাচন হয়। ১৯৯৯ সালের লোকসভা নির্বাচনে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় ভারতবর্ষের রেল মন্ত্রী হন, তিনি ২০০১ সাল পর্যন্ত রেল মন্ত্রী ছিলেন।

৩. কলকাতা পুরসভা জয়

২০০০ সালে কলকাতা পুরসভা ভোটে অংশগ্রহণ করে বিপুল ভোটে জয়লাভ করে তৃণমূল। এই প্রথম কলকাতার মহানাগরিক হন এক তৃণমূল সদস্য।

৪. প্রথম বিধানসভা ভোট

২০০১ সালে প্রথমবার তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস বিধানসভা ভোটে অংশগ্রহণ করে ও ৬০টি আসনে বিজয়ী ঘোষিত হয়।

৫. কেশপুর ও গড়বেতার নারকীয় হত্যাকান্ড

২০০১ সালের ৪ঠা জানুয়ারী মেদিনীপুর জেলার ছোট আঙারিয়ায় তৃণমূল কর্মীদের কুপিয়ে খুন করে হার্মাদরা।

৬. জাগো বাংলা

২০০৪ সালে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসের মুখপত্র ‘জাগো বাংলা’ প্রথম প্রকাশিত হয়। এটি একটি সাপ্তাহিক পত্রিকা।

৭. সিঙ্গুর আন্দোলন

২০০৬ সালে টাটা কোম্পানির গাড়ির কারখানা তৈরীর জন্য সিঙ্গুরের ১০০০ একর জমি বলপূর্বক অধিগ্রহণ করে নেয় তৎকালীন সরকার। অনিচ্ছুক কৃষকদের জমি ফিরিয়ে দেওয়ার দাবীতে আন্দোলন শুরু করেন মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

৮. ২৬ দিনের অনশন

সিঙ্গুরের অনিচ্ছুক কৃষকদের স্বার্থে এবং গ্রামবাসীদের ওপর সিপিএম হার্মাদবাহিনীর নারকীয় অত্যাচারের প্রতিবাদে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস নেত্রী ধর্মতলায় অনির্দিষ্টকালীন অনশন শুরু করেন। ২৬ দিন পর, মাননীয় রাজ্যপাল ও বিদ্বজ্জনদের অনুরোধে অনশন প্রত্যাহার করেন তিনি।

৯. নন্দীগ্রাম আন্দোলন

সিঙ্গুরের মতো নন্দীগ্রামেও বেসরকারি কেমিক্যাল হাব তৈরী করার জন্য অনিচ্ছুক কৃষকদের থেকে বলপূর্বক জমি ছিনিয়ে নিতে বিজ্ঞপ্তি জারি করে তৎকালীন সরকার। তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসের নেতৃত্বে শুরু হয় আন্দোলন। ১৪ই মার্চ ২০০৭ সালে পুলিশ নির্বিচারে গুলি চালিয়ে (সরকারি হিসেবে) ১৪ জন গ্রামবাসীর প্রাণ কেড়ে নেয়।

১০. পঞ্চায়েত জয়

২০০৮ সালে পঞ্চায়েত নির্বাচনে অংশ নিয়ে সারা রাজ্যে বিপুল ভোটে জয়লাভ করে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস। ব্যাপক ফল করে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস। পূর্ব মেদিনীপুর ও দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনা জেলা পরিষদ দখল করে তৃণমূল।

১১. লোকসভায় জয়

২০০৯ সালে বামবিদায়ের ঘন্টা বাজিয়ে লোকসভা নির্বাচনে ব্যাপক জয়লাভ করে তৃণমূল। রাজ্যের ৪২টি আসনের মধ্যে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস ১৯টি আসনে বিজয়ী হয়।

১২. পুরসভা জয়

২০১০ সালে বিপুল জনসমর্থন নিয়ে পুনরায় কলকাতা পুরসভা দখল করে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস।

১৩. বিধানসভা জয়

৩৪ বছরের অপশাসন ঘুচিয়ে, বাম সরকারকে পর্যুদস্ত করে মা মাটি মানুষের আশীর্বাদ নিয়ে প্রথমবার মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নেতৃত্বে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস সরকার বাংলার শাসনভার গ্রহণ করে।

১৪. জেলা পরিষদ জয়

২০১৩ সালে বামেদের কার্যত নিশ্চিহ্ন করে দিয়ে পঞ্চায়েত নির্বাচনে ১৩টি জেলা পরিষদ জয় করে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস।

১৫. লোকসভা নির্বাচনে বিপুল জয়

২০১৪ সালের লোকসভা নির্বাচনে রাজ্যের ৪২টি আসনের মধ্যে ৩৪টিতে জয়লাভ করে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস। দেশের চতুর্থ বৃহত্তম দল হিসেবে উঠে আসে তৃণমূল।

১৬. ৩৩ শতাংশ মহিলা সাংসদ

২০১৪ সালের তৃণমূলের নির্বাচিত লোকসভার সাংসদদের মধ্যে ৩৩ শতাংশ মহিলা সাংসদ। সংসদে মহিলা সংরক্ষণ বিল বহু বছর ধরে আটকে। তা সত্ত্বেও মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বুঝিয়ে দিলেন ইচ্ছে থাকলে উপায় হয়।

১৭. পুরসভা জয়

২০১৫ সালে কলকাতা পুরসভা সহ রাজ্যের ৭৮টি পুরসভা নির্বাচনে বিপুল জনসমর্থন নিয়ে জয়লাভ করে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস।

১৮. দ্বিতীয়বার বিধানসভা জয়

২০১৬ সালে ২৯৪ আসনের মধ্যে ২১১ আসন জিতে দ্বিতীয় বারের জন্য বাংলার শাসনভার গ্রহণ করে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নেতৃত্বাধীন তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস।

১৯. সিঙ্গুরে জমি ফেরত

কথা দিয়ে কথা রাখলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। ৩১ আগস্ট, ২০১৬ তে সুপ্রিম কোর্ট ঐতিহাসিক রায়ে সিঙ্গুরের জমি অধিগ্রহণকে অসাংবিধানিক আখ্যা দেয়। এরপর মমতা ববন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় সেপ্টেম্বর মাসে সিঙ্গুরের কৃষকদের জমি ফিরিয়ে দেন। সিঙ্গুর ফিরে আসে শস্যের ভাণ্ডারে।

২০. সর্বভারতীয় দলের স্বীকৃতি

২০১৬ সালে দেশের সপ্তম সর্বভারতীয় রাজনৈতিক দল হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি পায় তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস।

Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee on presented the KMC Budget for the financial year 2017-18.

While tabling the Budget, Mayor said that the projected expenditure for the financial year was Rs 3,38,988 lakh while the income stood at Rs 3,23,050 lakh. The KMC has set a revenue target of Rs 974.11 crore in the next financial year.

The civic body has proposed an allocation of Rs 374.71 crore to the Water Supply Department for 2017-18 to continue the process of development. Mayor also proposed to allocate an amount of Rs 571.99 crore to the Solid Waste Management department for 2017-18. GPRS with vehicle tracking system including post-implementation support and maintenance for a period of five years have been initiated for monitoring 450 vehicles’ movements at major VAT points.

The proposed allotment for the 2017-18 financial year would be Rs 119.69 crore for Lighting and Electricity department, Rs 42.99 crore for parks and squares, Rs 258.33 crore for Sewerage and Drainage department, Rs 143.28 crore for Health, Rs 20.28 crore for the Social Sector and Urban Poverty Alleviation department and Rs 148.89 crore for the Bustee department.

KMC has taken up various development works including construction of roads, by-lanes and laying of drainage pipelines and other beautification works.

 

জন পরিষেবাতে জোর কলকাতা পুরসভার বাজেটে

২০১৭-১৮ আর্থিক বর্ষের জন্য পুরসভার বাজেট পেশ করলেন কলকাতার মেয়র শোভন চট্টোপাধ্যায়।

বাজেট পেশ করার সময় মেয়র জানান, আগামী অর্থবর্ষে প্রস্তাবিত ব্যয়ের পরিমাণ ৩,৩৮,৯৮৮ কোটি টাকা আর আয়ের পরিমাণ ৩,২৩,০৫০ টাকা। আগামী অর্থবর্ষে রাজস্ব আদায়ের লক্ষ্যমাত্রা প্রায় ৯৭৪.১১ কোটি টাকা ধার্য করা হয়েছে।

জি পি আর এস এর মাধ্যমে শহরের পে অ্যান্ড ইউজ টয়লেট ও কমন কালেকশন সেন্টার এর অবস্থানগত তথ্য পাওয়া যায়।

২০১৭-১৮ আর্থিক বর্ষে পানীয় জল সরবরাহ খাতে বরাদ্দর পরিমাণ প্রায় ৩৭৪.৭১ কোটি টাকা। বাজেটে সবচেয়ে বেশি বরাদ্দের প্রস্তাব করা হয়েছে জঞ্জাল সাফাইয়ে। ওই খাতে প্রায় ৫৭১.৯৯ কোটি টাকা বরাদ্দ করা হয়েছে।

২০১৭-১৮ অর্থবর্ষে আলো ও বিদ্যুতায়নের জন্য বরাদ্দ করা হয়েছে ১১৯.৬৯ কোটি টাকা। উদ্যান বিভাগের জন্য বরাদ্দ করা হয়েছে ৪২.৯৯ কোটি টাকা, নিকাশি খাতে বরাদ্দ করা হয়েছে ২৫৮.৩৩ কোটি টাকা, স্বাস্থ্য খাতে বরাদ্দ করা হয়েছে ১৪৩.২৮ কোটি টাকা। সামাজিক খাতে এবং নগরোন্নয়নের জন্য বরাদ্দ করা হয়েছে ২০.২৮ কোটি টাকা। বস্তি উন্নয়নের জন্য বরাদ করা হয়েছে ১৪৮.৮৯ কোটি টাকা।

রাস্তা নির্মাণ, নিকাশি ব্যবস্থার সংস্কার সহ অন্যন্য সৌন্দর্যায়নের জন্য বিভিন্ন পদক্ষেপ নিয়েছে কলকাতা পুরসভা।

Kolkata Municipal Corporation will organise a rally on January 7 to create awareness against dengue. This is a part of a year-long programme organised by the KMC.

This is for first time in KMC’s history when awareness campaign against dengue is being launched during winter.

The Mayor of Kolkata, Municipal Affairs minister and other MPs and MLAs along with celebrities will take part in the walk which will start from KMC headquarters on SN Banerjee Road. Invitation has been sent to people from all walks of life to take part in the awareness campaign against the dreadful disease.

Rallies will be held in all the 144 wards under KMC on that day. The Councillors will organise the rallies in their respective areas. There will be banners and posters to create awareness among the people.

KMC used to launch anti-dengue drive and campaign after the monsoon season which was considered to be the ideal breeding season for dengue bearing mosquitoes. But as the situation has changed, KMC has taken up a year-long programme to control the spread of the disease.

Dengue clinics have been set up in different parts of the city and civic health workers are visiting flats and individual houses to check underground reservoirs and overhead tanks and steps had been taken in case dengue larvae were found there.

Residents have been asked to clean the containers where water is stored at least once a week along with flower pots and vases. KMC is successful in bringing down the number of dengue cases in the areas under its jurisdiction drastically.

 

ডেঙ্গু সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির জন্য ৭ই জানুয়ারী মিছিল করবে কলকাতা পুরসভা

ডেঙ্গুর বিরুদ্ধে সচেতনতা তৈরি করতে ৭ জানুয়ারি এক মিছিলের আয়োজন করবে এই কলকাতা পৌরসংস্থা।  এটি কলকাতা পুরসভা আয়োজিত বছরব্যাপী কর্মসূচির একটি অংশ।

এই প্রথমবার শীতকালে ডেঙ্গুর বিরুদ্ধে সচেতনতামূলক প্রচার করবে পুরসভা যা পুরসভার ইতিহাসে আগে কখনো হয়নি।

কলকাতার মেয়র, অন্যান্য সাংসদ, বিধায়ক এবং সেলিব্রিটিরা অংশ নেবে এই কর্মসূচিতে। এটি শুরু হবে এস এন ব্যানার্জি রোডে পুরসভার কার্যালয় থেকে। সব স্তরের মানুষকে এই সচেতনতামূলক কর্মসূচিতে অংশ নেওয়ার জন্য আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হয়েছে।

ওইদিন কলকাতার ১৪৪ টি ওয়ার্ডে এই সমাবেশ অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। কাউন্সিলররা তাদের নিজেদের এলাকায় সমাবেশের আয়োজন করবে। সেখানে ব্যানার ও পোস্টারের মাধ্যমে মানুষের মধ্যে সচেতনতা তৈরি হবে।

সাধারণত বর্ষাকালে কলকাতা পুরসভা এই সচেতনতা মূলক প্রচারের আয়োজন করে যেহেতু বর্ষাকাল এসবের প্রকোপ বেড়ে যায়। কিন্তু পরিস্থিতি বদলে গেছে, কলকাতা পৌরসংস্থা তাই বছরব্যাপী এই সচেতনতা কর্মসূচির পরিকল্পনা গ্রহণ করেছে।

Bengal Government will set up a committee to prepare a comprehensive plan for the development of Posta in Burrabazar, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Monday. She said this while inaugurating a Jagadhatri Puja function organised by Posta traders on Monday evening.

The committee will include the Kolkata Mayor, Trinamool MP Sudip Bandopadhyay, the commissioner of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Kolkata’s Commissioner of Police, local MLA and 10 traders who will be selected by the local trading community. The committee will meet to prepare the master plan and submit a report within three months.

“You sit and discuss the issues and come up with a master plan to carry out comprehensive development of Burrabazar,” she said, adding “there should be proper parking places and amenities for the workers”.

She said lorries are parked in the narrow lanes and by-lanes making it difficult for other vehicles and pedestrians to enter the area. “These problems need to be addressed and only a proper planning can accomplish this,” she pointed out. “It is the place where you do business and so you need to put in efforts to beautify the area,” she added.

“There are many old buildings which have not been repaired for several years. KMC has declared them dangerous and dilapidated and given notices to the owners. But despite that people continue to reside in them, risking their lives. The owners and the tenants should sit together to resolve the matter,” she maintained.

 

পোস্তার উন্নয়নে কমিটি গঠন মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর

সোমবার পোস্তায় জগদ্ধাত্রী পুজোর উদ্বোধন করতে গিয়ে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেন, কাজ করজে আমাদের কেউ রুখতে পারবে না। কাজ নিয়ে আমি কারও সঙ্গে আপস করব না। ভিড়ে ঠাসা পোস্তায় জগদ্ধাত্রী পুজোর অনুষ্ঠানের মঞ্চে দাঁড়িয়ে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেন, পোস্তাকে ঢেলে সাজাতে হবে। পোস্তার উন্নয়ন করতে হবে। এদিন তিনি ১০ জনের একটি কমিটি গঠন করার কথা ঘোষণা করেন।

মঞ্চে দাঁড়িয়ে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় এদিন ট্রেডার্স অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের কর্তাদের উদ্দেশ্যে বলেন, আপনারা কাদের কমিটিতে রাখবেন, তাদের নাম পাঠান। নগরপাল রাজীব কুমারের কাছে নামের তালিকা জমা দিতে হবে।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, আলোচনার সময় কোনও ঝড়গাঝাটি যেন না হয়। ভিন্ন প্রস্তাব থাকতেই পারে। মাথায় রাখতে হবে পোস্তাকে আমরা আরও ভালো করব। পোস্তায় বড় মার্কেটের প্রয়োজন। আপনারা যদি সহযোগিতা করেন, তা হলেই এ কাজ সম্ভব। সরকার আপনাদের পাশে আছে। আপনারা সবসময় আমাদের সাহায্য করেন। যখন আলুর দাম বাড়ে, তখন আপনাদের সঙ্গে আমরা আলোচনা করি।

তিনি আরও বলেন, তিন মাসের মধ্যে কমিটি করতে হবে। ট্রেডার্স অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সদস্যদের উদ্দেশ্যে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেন, কাজ দ্রুত আরম্ভ করুন। সম্প্রতি অঙ্গ প্রতিস্থাপনের সময় যে গ্রিন করিডর তৈরি করা হয়েছিল, সে ব্যাপারে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী স্বাস্থ্যদপ্তরের কাজের প্রশংসা করেন। গোটা পোস্তা জুড়ে মোট ৪৫টি সি সি ক্যামেরা বসানো হচ্ছে।

On May 13, 2011, the counting of the votes started at 8 AM for the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2011. Earlier the polling had been completed between April 18 and May 10, in six phases. At around 12 noon, the results indicated that Paribartan had finally come to Bengal led by Mamata Banerjee. History was rewritten.

Earlier, Trinamool Chairperson Ms Mamata Banerjee had ended her campaign on 9 May, 2011, in the constituency of Jadavpur. Before campaigning ended at 17:00, she appealed to the electorate to “Help me bring about change”. People showered their blessings.

The 34 years of Left oppression were washed away by the waves of change and the slogan, Bodla Noy, Bodol Chai. Mamata Banerjee became the first woman to be the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Since then, the Maa Mati Manush of Bengal has never left the side of Ms Mamata Banerjee and the ensuing developmental wave that swept past Bengal.

The successive wins in the Panchayat Elections in 2013, the Municipal Elections in 12 municipalities in 2013, the General elections in 2014 and the Municipal Elections in 2015 reaffirmed the faith of people on West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress. Besides, Trinamool Congress won several by-elections that happened time to time.

On September 21, 2014 elections were held at 12 municipalities: – Mekhliganj (Cooch Behar), Haldibari (Coochbehar), Alipurduar (Jalpaiguri), Balurghat (South Dinajpur), Dalkhola (North Dinajpur), Chakdaha (Nadia,)Panihati (North 24 Parganas), Habra (North 24 Pargana), Diamond Harbour (South 24 Parganas),Burdwan Town, Guskara (Burdwan)and Dubrajpur (Birbhum).

The Trinamool Congress continued with its streak of electoral victories in the State, winning eight of the 12 civic bodies. It won at Diamond Harbour, Habra, Guskara Burdwan, Panihati, Chakdah Balurghat and Dubrajpur.

Over 80 per cent of the 8.4 lakh voters in the State had exercised their franchise on September 21 for the elections to the civic bodies spread across nine districts in the State.

Later in the year, Municipal elections were conducted in Jhargram, Krishnnagar, Medinipur, Baharampur and Howrah. Trinamool won the election in four out of the five bodies, winning at Jhargram, Medinipur, Krishnanagar and the prestigious Howrah municipal board.

General Election 2014

The opposition parties had only one weapon to campaign against the developmental wave of Bengal under Mamata Banerjee. The major media houses were brought into alliance and a campaign of slander through television and print media tried to undermine 2 and half years of restructuring Bengal under Trinamool Congress. People of Bengal didn’t bother much before casting their votes. Out of the 42 seats, Trinamool Congress won 34, compared to 19 in 2009.

Trinamool Congress got 39.40% votes, up from 31.18% in 2009 to finish as the 4th largest party in the Lok Sabha. Around 5, 16, 22,555 people voted and the turnout of voters was 82.16%.

The Trinamool Congress had in 2009 Lok Sabha election won 19 seats. In 2014, Trinamool Congress won all these 20 seats and bagged 14 more.

Municipal Election 2015

Trinamool Congress continued its winning streak by recording a thumping majority in 71 of the 92 civic bodies in West Bengal. The party wrested control of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation by winning 114 of the 144 wards. Twelve civic bodies have no clear winner. In 2010, Trinamool won 66 municipalities.

Trinamool Congress improved its performance from 95 to 114. Of the 2,090 wards in the State, the Trinamool won an overwhelming 1,425 wards.

Assembly Election 2016

Trinamool Congress won a massive victory in the 2016 Assembly elections by winning 211 out of 294 seats.

Bottomline

It is the voice of the people that matters in democracy. The people of Bengal now know who can make their life better by bringing in actual change they had waited for years. Development speaks for itself. The Trinamool Government strives for development of the people, especially the poor, the financially backward class. People of Bengal understand this simple point and their faith on their Didi remains unhindered.

The Trinamool Congress-run Kolkata Municipal Corporation is going to gift a bouquet of projects to the people of Kolkata over the next few days.

Some of these projects, which were planned earlier, are now being wrapped up. The civic officials are also laying the foundation of a few other projects in the city.

From the augmentation of filtered water supply to the strengthening of the roads and sewerage systems, to the beautification of parks, KMC is ensuring the convenience of people in every sector.

Water

Among the developmental projects, water supply is one of the top priorities for the civic body. Within a span of 10 days, two water booster pumping stations were inaugurated by the KMC.

While the first pumping station was inaugurated in Bansdroni, the second one was inaugurated at Behala’s Parnasree.

The booster pumping station in Bansdroni will cater to large areas of Kudghat and Bansdroni while thousands living in Behala East will benefit from the booster pumping station at Parnasree.

Roads

Next in the civic body’s priority list is improvement of the city’s roads. The KMC Roads Department took up as many as 80 full-length roads or stretches of major roads for re-laying or strengthening.

Some of the major roads where strengthening (application of mastic asphalt) works are currently on include Chittaranjan Avenue, Amherst Street, Rashbehari Avenue, Ashutosh Mukherjee Road and Raja SC Mullick Road. The KMC Roads Department has also taken up the entire length of the Prince Anwar Shah Road connector to EM Bypass for repair.

Sewerage

The civic body has taken up strengthening of underground sewerage lines to combat waterlogging. The KMC Drainage and Sewerage Department has invited a national tender for procurement of sophisticated machines for de-silting of sewerage lines.

Greenery

The KMC Parks Department is also in the race. On Friday, the mayor inaugurated three machines with water sprinklers that will take care of the city’s full-grown trees and roadside plants. More such machines will be pressed into service this year, the mayor said.

Footnote

The Trinamool Congress, under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, has been dedicated to the service of people. The continuous endeavours of the KMC to serve people are a testimony in this regard.

তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস পরিচালিত কলকাতা পুরসভা আগামী কয়েক দিনে এক গুচ্ছ প্রকল্প উপহার দিতে চলেছে আগামী কয়েক দিনের মধ্যে।

এর মধ্যে বেশ কিছু প্রকল্প আগেই হয়েছে পরিকল্পিত হয়েছে, এখন সেগুলি বাস্তবায়িত হবে।  বেশ কিছু প্রকল্পের শিলান্যাস করবেন।

বিশুদ্ধ পানীয় জল সরবরাহ, সুন্দর রাস্তা, নিকাশি ব্যবস্থা,পার্কের সৌন্দর্যায়ন সব ক্ষেত্রেই কলকাতা পুরসভা প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রেই জনগণের সুবিধা সুনিশ্চিত করেছে।

জল

বিভিন্ন উন্নয়নমূলক প্রকল্পের মধ্যে জল সরবরাহ একটি অতি গুরুত্বপূর্ন প্রকল্প। ১০ দিনের মধ্যে ২টি বুস্টার পাম্পিং স্টেশন উদ্বোধন করেছে কলকাতা পুরসভা।

প্রথম বুস্টার পাম্পিং স্টেশনটি হয়েছে বাঁশদ্রোণিতে এবং দ্বিতীয়টি হয়েছে বেহালায়। বাঁশদ্রোণির বুস্টার পাম্পিং স্টেশনের মাধ্যমে বাঁশদ্রোণি ও কুঁদঘাটের অনেকটা এলাকা এবং পর্ণশ্রীর বুস্টার পাম্পিং স্টেশনের মাধ্যমে পশ্চিম বেহালার হাজার হাজার মানুষ উপকৃত হবেন।

রাস্তা

শহরের রাস্তাঘাট সাড়াইও পুরসভার একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দায়িত্ব। শহরের মোট ৮০টি রাস্তা সাড়াইয়ের কাজ হাতে নিয়েছে পুরসভা।

কলকাতার বেশ কিছু প্রধান রাস্তার ব্যপক পরিবর্তন হয়েছে, যেমন চিত্তরঞ্জন অ্যাভিনিউ, আমহার্স্ট স্ট্রিট, রাসবিহারি অ্যাভিনিউ, আশুতোষ মুখার্জি রোড, রাজা এস সি মল্লিক রোড ইত্যাদি। ইএম বাইপাস ও আনোয়ারশাহ সহ আরও কিছু রাস্তা মেরামত করেছে কলকাতা পুরসভা।

নিকাশি ব্যবস্থা

ভূগর্ভস্থ নিকাশি ব্যবস্থা আরও শক্তিশালী করা হয়েছে যাতে জল না জমে থাকে। কলকাতা পুরসভার কাছে নিকাশি দপ্তর নিকাশি ব্যবস্থার উন্নতির জন্য অত্যাধুনিক মেশিন তৈরির জন্য আবেদন জানিয়েছে।

সবুজায়ন

কলকাতার গাছগুলোর সবুজ রঙ ও উজ্জ্বলতা ফিরিয়ে আনার জন্য নতুন উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে কলকাতা পুরসভা। গাছের পাতাকে সবুজ এবং কার্বনমুক্ত রাখতে শুক্রবার নতুন পাতা ধোয়ার গাড়ির উদ্বোধন করলেন পুরসভার মেয়র শোভন চ্যাটার্জি। মেয়র আরও জানান, এই ধরনের আরও বেশ কিছু মেশিন আনা হবে এই বছরেরে মধ্যেই।

মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী শ্রীমতী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের পরিচালিত তৃণমূল সরকার জনগণের সেবায় নিয়োজিত হয়েছে। সব শ্রেণীর মানুষের জন্য দিন রাত কাজ করে চলেছে কলকাতা পুরসভা।

On Friday , the Kolkata Municipa Corporation (KMC) launched four carbon-removing vehicles to clean the trees.

These vehicles, which are fitted with pumps, will be used to spray water on trees and roadside plants.

Debasish Kumar, the mayor in-council member overseeing the KMC parks department, credited Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for influencing the civic body in introducing these machines to protect and enhance greenery of the city.

“These ma chines will help carbon-soaked plants to produce more oxygen,” he added.

Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, who inaugurated the special service, narrated a story behind buying these machines.

“Once I visited a garden in the city and noticed that the garden had lost its greenery due to pollution. I decided to water the trees regularly and when I visited the place again after two weeks, I saw the garden had turned into lushy green place. I got an idea to introduce such machines for watering trees and plants to bring back their shine,” he said.

The civic body would invest Rs 2 crore to buy eight more machines in phases, the mayor added.

According to a KMC official, these vehicles will be on Kolkata streets everyday in the morning.The drivers have been assigned in contract basis.

গাছের পাতা কার্বনমুক্ত করতে নতুন উদ্যোগ কলকাতা পুরসভার

গাছের পাতাকে সবুজ এবং কার্বনমুক্ত রাখতে শুক্রবার নতুন উদ্যোগ নিল কলকাতা পুরসভা।

পানীয় জলের গাড়িগুলিতেই জেনারেটর ও মোটর, পাইপ বসিয়ে পাতা ধোয়ার গাড়ির রূপ দেওয়া রয়েছে।

কলকাতা পুরসভার মেয়র পারিষদ দেবাশিস কুমার জানান, “মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নির্দেশে কলকাতাকে স্বচ্ছ-সুন্দর ও সবুজ করে তোলার জন্য এটি আর একটি পদক্ষেপ”।

তিনি আরও বলেন, “এই পাম্পগুলো গাছের পাতাকে কার্বনমুক্ত করে সেগুলিকে আরও অক্সিজেন মুক্ত করতে সাহায্য করবে”।

শুক্রবার কার্বন রিমুভার পাতা পরিষ্কারের গাড়ির উদ্বোধন করলেন কলকাতা পুরসভার মেয়র শোভন চ্যাটার্জি।

মেয়র বলেন, “কলকাতার গাছগুলোর সবুজ রঙ ও উজ্জ্বলতা ফিরিয়ে আনার জন্য আমরা এই মাশিন চালু করার কথা ঠিক করি। এই মেশিন গুলোর জন্য বরাদ্দ করা হয়েছে ২ কোটি টাকা”।

People of wards 129, 130 and 131 of Behala, Kolkata, are likely to get rid of drinking water woes as a booster pumping station was inaugurated today at Senpally in Ward No 129.

The pumping station was inaugurated by Mayor of Kolkata, Sobhan Chatterjee. State Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim, Education Minister Dr Partha Chatterjee, AITC general secretary Subrata Bakshi were present at the occasion.

With inauguration of this 3 lakh gallon capacity pump, people of the area, including that of mayor’s ward are likely to get rid of water crisis, which has been a local issue for long.

Tate Education Minister Dr Partha Chatterjee said that the Government under Trinamool Congress is delivering the promises it made to the people.

The State Urban Development Minister Mr Firhad hakim said that Bengal is setting example for other States.

The Kolakata Mayor said water crisis in the city has been largely eradicated. There will be a time when the city will be100% tube-well free, he said.

The booster pumping station was today named after eminent lyricist Mohini Chowdhury.

 

নতুন বুস্টার পাম্পিং স্টেশন বেহালায়

বেহালা ১২৯ নং ওয়ার্ডের সেনপল্লীতে একটি নতুন বুস্টার পাম্পিং স্টেশন উদ্বোধন হয়েছে। ওয়ার্ড নং ১২৯, ১৩০ এবং ১৩১ এর অধিবাসীরা পানীয় জলের জন্য তৈরি হল এই বুস্টার পাম্পিং স্টেশন।

উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত থাকবেন কলকাতার মেয়র শোভন চ্যাটার্জি, রাজ্যের পুর ও নগরোন্নয়ন মন্ত্রী ফিরহাদ হাকিম, শিক্ষামন্ত্রী পার্থ চ্যাটার্জি, তৃণমূলের সাধারণ সম্পাদক সুব্রত বক্সী।

এই পাম্পের জলধারণ ক্ষমতা প্রায় ৩ লাখ গ্যালন। মেয়রের এলাকা সহ সব এলাকার পানীয় জলের সমস্যার সমাধান হবে এর মাধ্যমে।

রাজ্যের শিক্ষামন্ত্রী পার্থ চ্যাটার্জি বলেন যে তৃণমূল সরকার তাদের দেওয়া সমস্ত প্রতিশ্রুতি পূর্ণ করছে।

রাজ্যের পুর ও নগরোন্নয়ন মন্ত্রী ফিরহাদ হাকিম বলেন পশ্চিম বাংলা অন্যান্য রাজ্যের কাছে একটি দৃষ্টান্ত।

কলকাতার মেয়র বলেন, “শহরে পানীয় জলের অভাব মূলত নির্মূল হয়েছে। এরপর এমন একদিন আসবে যেদিন শহরকে ১০০ শতাংশ নলকূপ মুক্ত করা সম্ভব হবে”।

প্রয়াত গীতিকার মোহিনী চৌধুরীর নামে এই বুস্টার পাম্পিং স্টেশনের নামকরন করা হয়েছে।

In one of the biggest water projects ever considered in Kolkata, the civic body plans to link two of its major water pumping stations through a 70-km-long pipeline, creating a ‘water grid’ that will not only end the city’s water woes in five years but also prepare it for the future.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation has submitted the proposal to the state government to be included in the AMRUT scheme. It will cost a whopping Rs 1,400 crore and ensure uninterrupted supply of filtered water to every home even in the added areas and protect groundwater from further depletion.

The plan is to link Palta waterworks near Barrackpore with the Garden Reach water treatment plant in the south-western part of the city.

Once the link-up happens, KMC can get water from Palta to supply all the ‘dry’ areas.

The new pipeline will run along EM Bypass till Garia and then travel along Tolly’s Nullah to Kudghat, where it will take a left turn to meet MG Road and finally merge with an existing line on James Long Sarani to link up with the Garden Reach network.

An added advantage of running the pipeline along EM Bypass is that the newly built Dhapa water treatment plant will also be connected with both Palta and Garden Reach waterworks.

Mayor Sovan Chatterjee is gung ho about the project and said it will be “really useful” to the city.

Buoyed by the warm response to its pilot project on piping filtered water to some apartment complexes, Kolkata Municipal Corporation has decided to lay a dedicated water pipeline to supply filtered water from the Dhapa plant to all major complexes along EM Bypass.

In the first phase, KMC will lay a 24-inch pipeline along EM Bypass, which will be linked to all major housing complexes. In the second phase, based on applications from the cooperative societies, the civic body will install water meters in these apartments.

Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said that the civic body would definitely supply filtered water to the major housing complexes along the EM Bypass as part of a plan to ban drawing of ground water.

“We need to supply filtered water to the multistoried buildings and housing complexes. This is necessary to save city’s groundwater from being depleted,” he said.
