Mamata Banerjee invites Dipa Karmakar’s coach to set up gymnastics academy in Bengal

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today invited Bisheswar Nandi, coach of gymnast Dipa Karmakar to set up a gymnastics academy in Bengal, on the sidelines of ‘Khel Samman’ award ceremony at Netaji Indoor Stadium.

The CM honoured sporting legends on the occasion. She conferred Khel Samman on 13 sportspersons, Banglar Gourab Samman on 15 sportspersons, Krira Guru Samman on 5 coaches. Samar Banerjee and Naresh Kumar were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Atanu Das, Soumyajit Ghosh, Mouma Das and Debasree Majumder were honoured with ‘Bishesh Samman’ and Dipa Karmakar was felicitated with ‘Ananya Samman’. The CM also distributed financial aid to 4000 new and 8653 old clubs for developing their sports infrastructure. This programme, launched in 2011-12 is aimed at developing sporting talent in the State.

The CM lashed out at demonetisation again and pointed out that the move has adversely affected sponsorship of sports, but said that the government will always stand by the sports persons. She also announced that 13 clubs will get Rs 50 lakh from the state sports department for development of sports.

Enlisting her government’s achievements in building sports infrastructure, she said, “We have built 16 new stadiums, refurbished 46 and built 23 youth hostels.” She also said that she will compose a theme song for the sports department, and emphasised that there is need for one since it will foster identity and as sense of pride.

আজ নেতাজি ইনডোর স্টেডিয়ামে খেল সম্মান এর থেকে জিমনাস্ট দীপা কর্মকারের কোচ বিশ্বেশ্বর নন্দীকে বাংলায় একটি জিমনাস্টিক অ্যাকাডেমি তৈরির জন্য আমন্ত্রণ জানান মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “২০১৫ সালে বাংলায় ক্রীড়া নীতি তৈরি হয়েছে। বাজেটে এর বরাদ্দ বৃদ্ধি করা হয়েছে। বাংলায় খেলাধুলোর অনেক প্রতিভা রয়েছে। সল্টলেক স্টেডিয়ামে ফুটবল অনুর্দ্ধ-১৭ বিশ্বকাপ হবে। আশা করা যায় এটি বাংলার খেলাধুলোকে আরও এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাবে। ১৩ টি ফুটবল ক্লাবকে ৫০ লক্ষ টাকা আর্থিক অনুদান দেওয়া হবে”।

তিনি আরও বলেন, “১৫ টি নতুন স্টেডিয়াম তৈরি হচ্ছে, ৪৬ টি সংস্কার করা হচ্ছে। ২৩ টি যুব আবাস তৈরি হয়েছে, ১৯ টি সংস্কার করা হয়েছে। ২৮৪ টি মাল্টি জিম তৈরি হয়েছে। জঙ্গলমহল, হিমাল-তরাই-ডুয়ার্স ও সুন্দরবন এলাকায় এখন ক্রীড়া প্রতিযোগিতা হয়। যেখানে ৭০০০০ ছাত্রছাত্রী অংশগ্রহণ করে। জলপাইগুড়িতে বিশ্ব বাংলা ক্রীড়াঙ্গন তৈরি হয়েছে। রবীন্দ্র সরোবর স্টেডিয়াম সংস্কার করা হয়েছে”।

আজকের এই অনুষ্ঠান মঞ্চ থেকে ৪০০০ নতুন ক্লাবকে আর্থিক অনুদান দেওয়া হল তাদের পরিকাঠামো উন্নয়নের জন্য। আগে ৮৬৫৩ টি ক্লাবকে দেওয়া হয়েছে। অলিম্পিক কমিটিগুলিকেও ৫ লক্ষ টাকা আর্থিক অনুদান দেওয়া হবে।

Best of Bengali television world honoured at Tele Academy Awards

The Tele-Academy 2015-16 organised by the West Bengal Tele Academy of the State Government was organised today Nazrul Mancha at 5 PM.

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee felicitated actors and technicians working in the television industry for their outstanding performances through their career as well as in the last year.

“We are really honoured and blessed to be able to felicitate the talent of TV industry. Very talented people are being honoured here today for their performances,” she said.

“There was a time when TV was called an idiot box. But now it is a huge industry, generating livelihood for people,” the CM added.

The West Bengal Tele Academy Awards 2016 covers the entire gamut of Film and TV, rewarding excellence in production, programming, photography and technology, among others. The awards have been constituted as a token of respect and gratitude to the entire Film and TV industry in West Bengal.

In 2014, the inaugural year of the Tele Akademi Awards, actors Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Monoj Mitra, Sabitri Chattopadhyay and Madhabi Mukhopadhyay were presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The Trinamool Government had introduced Banga Sammanana in the year 2011 for notable contribution to the state; the Government has also been honouring distinguished artists from the field of music with Sangeet Samman, and those associated with sports with the Khel Samman.

“We believe “Telly”wood is as glamorous as Tollywood, Bollywood and Hollywood,” WB CM said while wishing the members of the Bengali television fraternity.

26 new stadiums coming up in Bengal

To develop infrastructure for hosting more sporting events in the state, the West Bengal government will allot plots for a new cricket stadium, football academy and an indoor stadium.

At the Khel Ratna Samman ceremony, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said they are ready to give land to the CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) to develop a cricket stadium in Rajarhat.

“I will give you (CAB) land, you prepare the stadium. One stadium (Eden Gardens) is not enough. With another stadium we will be able to host more sporting events,” she said adding that ISL franchisee Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) wants to establish a football academy in the city for which they are giving them some land in Dumdum area.

“I want them to nurture local talent in soccer. Take five clubs from Kolkata and five from the districts and nurture them. You spend so much money in ISL I want you to spend something for Bengal,” Banerjee said.

Besides the government also has plans to set up a new indoor stadium at a 20 acre plot in Rajarhat with a capacity of 20,000, she said.

On the Sports Village in Jalpaiguri district she said it will be of international standards but sought the support of the corporate sector in running it under a PPP (public private partnership) model.

“We have made the infrastructure and now if the corporates run it we are ready to extend all co-operation. They can take over and run this,” Banerjee said.

The chief minister also stressed on the need to have sports school so that football stars like Messi can be produced from the state.

“A committee with experts and corporates will identify which sports needs to be promoted and in what way. We want to nurture talent,” she said.

Altogether she said there are 26 new stadiums which are coming up in different parts of the state.

Kolkata has been selected as one of the venues for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

WB CM confers Khel Samman on sports legends

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee today felicitated exceptionally talented sportspersons of the State who have excelled in various fields of sports. The felicitation ceremony was held at Netaji Indoor Stadium earlier today.

The West Bengal Chief Minister conferred lifetime Khel Ratna awards to legendary footballer and former Indian captain PK Banerjee and Tennis ace and former captain of India in Davis Cup, Akhtar Ali.

Thirty one players were felicitated with Khel Samman while 11 coaches were honoured with Krira Guru awards.

Speaking on the occasion, West Bengal Chief Minister said that sports sector in Bengal was on its path of resurgence. Twenty six new stadiums were being set up across the State, she said.

“We are proud that the U-17 World Cup is being held in Kolkata. We must bring back the glorious days of Bengal’s football,” the CM added.

“The world of sports will come to Bengal once all the stadiums and infrastructure is in place. What Bengal thinks today the world thinks tomorrow,” she said.

WB CM announced that a new indoor stadium will come up on 20 acres of land near Eco Park in Rajarhat. She sought help from the corporate sector to run the Jalpaiguri Sports Village under PPP mode. She also requested the CAB to build a new cricket stadium in Kolkata.

WB Govt to formulate new Sports Policy soon

West Bengal Government is going to formulate a new sports policy soon. There was no sports policy for the State before Trinamool came to power.

The new Government laid great stress on sports in the last years by increasing the allocation almost 9 times.

The Budgetary allocations during 2010-11 for sports was only a meagre Rs 29.29 Crore, which has seen substantive increase to Rs 41.86 Crore (2011-12), Rs 72.31(2012-13), Rs 100.69 Crore (2013-14), Rs 142 Crore (2014-15) and now to Rs 180 Crore in 2015-16 Budget.

Sports

Some significant initiatives for Sports Department:

  • In the last 3 years more than 170 sports personalities have been felicitated. The State has instituted ‘Khel Ratna’ award
  • To develop sports and construction of sports infrastructure of the state, Rs 67 Crore has been invested to build up 26 stadia, swimming pools, sports academies and hostels
  • Renovation of Saltlake Stadium and installation of new floodlights
  • Assistance has been given to more than 14,000 clubs and gymnasiums to buy sports equipment
  • Jalpaiguri Sports Complex has been upgraded and 2 phase of Sports Village at Jalpaiguri is under construction
  • Special focus has been given to Jangalmahal and backward regions. Jangalmahal Cup has been instituted for tribals. New stadiums at Salboni, Nayagram Academy at Jhargram, Purulia stadium, sports complex at Bankura will be completed by June, 2015
  • A new Archery Academy will be made operational in this year 2015-16
  • Sanctions have been given to develop at around 200 sports grounds

 

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee on 17 March, 2015, felicitated 45 sportsperson from Bengal who won medals in the 35th National Games. Gold medallists were given Rs 5 lakh, silver medalists Rs 3 lakh and for bronze medalists Rs 2 lakh.

We are committed to developing sports infrastructure in Bengal: WB CM at Vivek Chetana Utsav

On the occasion of 152nd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the Department of Sports & Department of Youth Services, Government of West Bengal is organising a 3-day Vivek Chetana Utsav, in association with Ramakrishna Math and Mission from 10-12 January, 2015.

A centralised programme was inaugurated at Netaji Indoor Stadium earlier today by WB CM Mamata Bandyopadhyay and General Secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Mission Swami Suhitanandaji Maharaj.

On this occasion WB CM gave away the ‘Khel Sanman’ awards to the eminent players and financial grants were provided to club organisations. From now, every year January 10 will be celebrated as ‘Khel Divas’.

On 11 and 12 January, 2015 the Vivek Chetana Utsav will be organised in 341 Blocks, 121 Municipalities, 15 Boroughs of Kolkata Municipal Corporation including 5 Corporations and in all the District Headquarters in the State.
