The Bengal Government, through its Food and Supplies Department, has decided to buy 7 crore jute bags from the state’s jute manufacturers, through the Jute Corporation of India.

These bags would be supplied to the state’s rice mills, for them to supply rice to the government.

Jute is a traditional industrial sector of Bengal, which has been neglected for long by the Central Government despite repeated requests by the Bengal Government to help the jute farmers and manufacturers.

This latest move by the State Government is the result of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee forming a Group of Ministers to look into ways of ameliorating the condition of those involved with the jute industry, be they jute farmers, jute mill workers or others.

Of the 7 lakh jute bags to be bought, the government would buy 1.2 lakh for transporting the rice from the kharif growing season, at a cost of Rs 300 to 325 crore.

রাজ্যের পাটশিল্প ও পাটচাষিকে উৎসাহিত করতে খাদ্য ও খাদ্য প্রক্রিয়াকরণ দপ্তর নয়া পদক্ষেপ নিতে চলেছে। রাজ্যের খাদ্য ও সরবরাহ দপ্তর রাজ্য জুড়ে মিলগুলিকে ৭কোটি পাটের ব্যাগ (বস্তা) সরবরাহ করতে চলেছে। এই ব্যাগগুলিতেই রাজ্য সরকারকে চাল সরবরাহ করবে মিলগুলি।

পাটশিল্পকে উৎসাহিত করতে ও এই শিল্পের একটা দীর্ঘমেয়াদি সমাধান সূত্র বার করতেই এই পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া হয়েছে। প্রসঙ্গত, লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষের জীবিকার সঙ্গে যুক্ত সেক্টরগুলির পুনরুজ্জীবনে নয়া কৌশল অবলম্বন করতে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় একটি মন্ত্রী গোষ্ঠী তৈরি করেছেন। এই গ্রুপ অফ মিনিস্টার্স এই অভিনব সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে।

রাজ্য সরকার শীঘ্রই খারিফ মরশুমে চাল সংগ্রহের জন্য ৩০০ থেকে ৩২৫ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে ১.২ লক্ষ চটের বস্তা কিনতে চলেছে।
