Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee addressed a mass rally at Silda in Paschim Medinipur district today. Speaking to the huge gathering people who came from far interior areas of Jangalmahal, she reiterated the developmental work her government undertook in the district to improve the lives of the people and also restored peace in the areas which were troubled by extremism earlier.

 

She sent a stern message to her political opponents, namely the Left, Congress and the BJP and challenged them to fight her politically and not by slandering her party. She also called the alliance between the Left and Congress ‘unholy’ and that urged the people of Bengal to reject such alliances which is void of any ideology. Here are some excerpts from her speech:

 

  • Silda once made headlines for the massacre of Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) jawans. In 2010-11, over 400 people were killed due to violence in Jangalmahal. Peace prevails in Jangalmahal now. The region is turning around. People are happy. I have visited Jangalmahal several times in the last four-and-a-half years. I am here to serve people.

 

  • In 1993, I had conducted a mass-contact programme which started from Belpahari. We have not forgotten that people ate eggs of ants in Amlashole in the past. We have come a long way since then. We have done a lot of work for the development of Jangalmahal. Ninety-three per cent of the people in Paschim Medinipur have received direct services from government. We have built roads, bridges, schools, colleges, industrial training institutes (ITIs) and polytechnics. We have set up a new hospital in Belpahari and a Mother & Child Care Hub in Jhargram. We have made healthcare free at all government hospitals. We believe in ‘Health for All’.

 

  • Almost eight crore people in the State, incl;uding those in the Jangalmahal region, are receiving rice at Rs 2 per kg. Today peace prevails in Silda, which was infamous for bloody violence once upon a time. Those who have ignored you all for 34 years are now making grand speeches on TV; there is no cure for jealousy. Some people are jealous of the surge of development. We have launched the Jal Sathi Scheme for the drier regions of Jangalmahal. Twenty-five lakh students have received bicycles under the Sabuj Sathi Scheme. Fifteen lakh more bicycles will be distributed soon. Thirty-three lakh girls have received the benefits of the Kanyashree Scheme. We have increased the minimum support price (MSP) of kendu leaves. We have started a social security scheme for kendu leaf collectors. The youth of Jangalmahal are getting jobs; they are active in various sports. Folk art is flourishing.

 

  • ‘Maa bonera bendhe jot/ Unnayoner jonyo, shantir jonyo/ Joraphool-e shob vote.’ I request my Adivasi brothers and sisters to cast their vote on the ‘joraphool’ symbol. Your vote will defeat the CPI(M)-Congress nexus. The CPI(M) and the Congress have given up on their ideological beliefs to form an alliance. I challenge my detractors to fight me politically and ideologically. We must take a pledge to ensure that the days of violence under the rule of the CPI(M) do not return. Jangalmahal will show the way. Trinamool will come to power in Bengal. Cast your votes freely, without any fear. Vote for the prosperity of Jangalmahal; vote for ‘joraphool’. We want peace and development to continue; we want the people of Bengal to remain happy.

 

জঙ্গলমহলে শান্তি রক্ষা করতে বিরোধী জোটকে হারিয়ে দিন: শিলদায় মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়

আজ পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুরের শিলদা, কুলটিকড়ি ও নয়াগ্রামে তিনটি জনসভা করেন তৃণমূল নেত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। আজ জঙ্গলমহলে মমতাদির প্রচারের দ্বিতীয় দিন ছিল।

জঙ্গলমহলের প্রথম দিনের প্রচারে তিনি দুটি জনসভা করেন, প্রথমটি লালগড়ে এবং দ্বিতীয়টি গোয়ালতোড়ে। এরপর তিনি মেদিনীপুর শহরে একটি পদযাত্রাও করেন।

তিনি আজ তাঁর বক্তব্যে বলেন, গত চার বছরে জঙ্গলমহলে রাজনৈতিক প্রতিহিংসা কমে গেছে। তিনি আরও বলেন,  জঙ্গলমহলে এখন শান্তি ফিরে এসেছে। কিষাণ মাণ্ডি, আইটিআই, পলিটেকনিক, ব্রিজ, রাস্তা থেকে শুরু করে নতুন স্কুল-কলেজ সবই তৈরি হয়েছে জঙ্গলমহলে। জঙ্গলমহল এখন হাসছে।

কেন্দু পাতা সংগ্রহকারীদের জন্য সামাজিক সুরক্ষা প্রকল্পগুলিও তুলে ধরেন তিনি। এছাড়াও আদিবাসী ভাই ও বোনেদের জন্য নানা উন্নয়নমূলক কাজের খতিয়ান ও দেন তিনি।

আগামী ৪ঠা এপ্রিল জঙ্গলমহলে প্রথম পর্যায়ের ভোট।

Mamata Banerjee began her campaign in Jangalmahal today with two rallies in Lalgarh and Goaltore in Paschim Medinipur district, followed by a padayatra through the town of Medinipur.

Since 2011, Mamata Banerjee has visited Jangalmahal more than 30 times, including to places like Bandwan, Baghmundi, Belpahari and the erstwhile hunger-stricken Amlashole, once the hotbed of left-wing extremism.

In her speech, the Trinamool Chairperson highlighted how the incidents of political violence have reduced in the last four and a half years. She said that Jangalmahal was smiling now, thanks to the numerous Kisan Mandis, ITIs, polytechnics, bridges, roads, new schools and colleges.

She also spoke at length about the benefits extended to the Adivasi brothers and sisters and unveiled a copy of the party’s Manifesto in Ol Chiki script. She highlighted the Khadya Sathi scheme under which Adivasis are getting rice at Rs 2 per kg.

The Chairperson requested the people of Jangalmahal to defeat CPI(M), Congress and BJP and bring Trinamool back to power to continue the surge of development in Jangalmahal.

 

জঙ্গলমহলে প্রচার শুরু মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের

দলীয় প্রার্থীদের সমর্থনে আজ জঙ্গলমহলে প্রচার শুরু করলেন তৃণমূল নেত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। আজ পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর জেলায় লালগড় ও শালবনিতে সভা করেন তিনি। এরপর মেদিনীপুর শহরে একটি পদযাত্রাও করেন তৃণমূল নেত্রী।

২০১১ সাল থেকে প্রায় ৩০ বারেরও বেশি জঙ্গলমহলে এসেছেন মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। বান্দোয়ান, বাঘমুণ্ডি, বেলপাহাড়ি এবং এক সময়ের ক্ষুধাপীড়িত এলাকা আমলাশোল, যেখানে বাম আমলে মাওবাদী নাশকতার প্রকোপ ছিল, সহ বহু জায়গায় তিনি বারবার এসেছেন এবং সমস্যার সমাধান করেছেন।

নিজের বক্তব্যে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় জঙ্গলমহলের শান্তির পরিবেশের কথা তুলে ধরেন। তিনি বলেন যে গত সাড়ে চার বছরে জঙ্গলমহলে কোনও হিংসার ঘটনা ঘটেনি, এখানকার মানুষ এখন হাসছে। কিষান বাজার থেকে শুরু করে, আইটিআই, কলেজ, স্কুল, ব্রিজ ও রাস্তাঘাটের প্রসঙ্গ তুলে এই এলাকায় তিনি উন্নয়নের সামগ্রিক চিত্রটি তুলে ধরেন।

আদিবাসী ভাই ও বোনেদের জন্য তৃণমূল সরকারের আমলে নেওয়া সিদ্ধান্তগুলিও আবার স্মরণ করিয়ে দেন মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। অল চিকি হরফে লেখা দলের ইস্তাহার প্রকাশ করে তিনি বলেন আদিবাসীদের উন্নয়ন ওনার লক্ষ্য। তৃণমূলনেত্রী খাদ্য সাথী প্রকল্পের কথাও উল্লেখ করেন।

তৃণমূলনেত্রী জঙ্গলমহলের বাসিন্দাদের কাছে আবেদন করেন তৃণমূলকে বিপুল ভোটে জয়যুক্ত করতে যাতে রাজ্যের উন্নয়নের ধারা অব্যাহত থাকে।

Kanyashree Scheme is one of the best things to have happened to West Bengal. One of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s pet schemes, Kanyashree was conceived to empower girls of the State.

The scheme has won acclaim both from home and abroad, from the Government of India and from UNESCO.

One of the primary aims of Kanyashree is, through providing for educational funding, to make girls self-sufficient. And the seeds of self-reliance that the scheme has planted in the minds of girls have borne rich fruits.

Girls in the Jangalmahal region are feeling empowered. Take the girls of Kartik Oraon Notungram Sareshkanali Sammilani Adivasi High School, in Onda block in Bankura district, for example. A few years back this school in the Jangalmahal region decided that girls from the institution, most of whom are Adivasis, would be trained in archery, something for which Adivasis have a natural bent.

According to the coach, gradually, Kanyashree has inspired more and more to take up the sport in the school. Many of them have already performed commendably in various State-level competitions.

As a part of the Kanyashree Scheme, the State government has started a football competition for girls of classes 6 to 10 in Purulia. The girls are visibly happy to be able to get a chance to play, and thus prove their worth in something.

Especially in the regions of Raghunathpur, Manbazar and Baghmundi the interest in football among girls has increased exponentially. Currently 300 girls are being trained in the sport. Authorities are very hopeful of the number increasing rapidly. As the girls themselves say, seeing them, their sisters, other relatives and friends are also getting inspired and joining them.

Not just empowering girls, the State government also expects that from within these girls, players would come up who would represent the State at all levels. A girls’ football academy is soon going to be set up too by the State government in Kashipur in Purulia district.

The Kanyashree Scheme has done so much for the betterment of girls in such a short period of time. And it’s only the beginning. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s dream of empowering girls all over the State has a golden run.

 

কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে মেয়েদের স্বনির্ভর করার উদ্যোগ

পশ্চিমবঙ্গকে স্বনির্ভর করতে বাংলার মানুষের জন্য নানারকম প্রকল্প চালু করেছে মমতা বন্দোপাধ্যায়ের সরকার। এমনই একটি সফল প্রকল্পের নাম কন্যাশ্রী।

এই প্রকল্প ভারত সরকারের কাছ থেকে এবং ইউনেস্কোর কাছে যথেষ্ট প্রশংসিত হয়েছে।

তবে শুধু স্বনির্ভর করাই নয়, সবদিক থেকে মেয়েদের পারদর্শী করে তোলা কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের মূল লক্ষ্য। এজন্য এই প্রকল্পের আওতায় খেলাধুলোরও আয়োজন করেছে রাজ্য সরকার।

এবার কন্যাশ্রীদের জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক স্তরের অ্যাথলিট করারও উদ্যোগ নিচ্ছে রাজ্য সরকার।

সরকারের এই উদ্যোগকে সফল করতে এক্ষেত্রে পথ দেখাচ্ছে বাঁকুড়ার একটি স্কুল। ১৫ জন আদিবাসী কিশোরীকে নিয়ে শুরু হয়েছে পথ চলা। কন্যাশ্রীর আওতায় এই ১৫ জন কিশোরী  শিখছে তীরন্দাজি । ভবিষ্যতে হয়ত এদের বিভিন্ন জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক স্তরে দেখা যাবে।

কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের আওতায়, রাজ্য সরকার পুরুলিয়ায় ষষ্ঠ থেকে দশম শ্রেণী পর্যন্ত ছাত্রীদের জন্য ফুটবল প্রতিযোগিতা শুরু করেছে। স্বাভাবিকভাবেই খেলাধুলার সুযোগ পেয়ে খুব খুশি ছাত্রীরা।

এই প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে পুরুলিয়ার বাগমুণ্ডি, মানবাজার এলাকার ছাত্রীদের খেলাধুলোর প্রতি উৎসাহ আরও বেড়েছে। এখনও পর্যন্ত প্রায় ৩০০ জন ছাত্রী ফুটবলে প্রশিক্ষণ নিচ্ছে। ভবিষ্যতে সংখ্যাটা আরও বেড়ে যাবে।

এই কন্যাশ্রী ফুটবল প্রতিযোগিতার মধ্য দিয়ে নানা সামাজিক প্রতিবন্ধকতাকে অতিক্রম করেছে। ভবিষ্যতে মহিলা ফুটবল অ্যাকাডেমি তৈরি করার পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে রাজ্য সরকারের। খুব শীঘ্রই কাশিপুরে মহিলা ফুটবল অ্যাকাডেমির ভিত্তি প্রস্তর স্থাপন হবে।

বিভিন্ন প্রতিভা তুলে আনার জন্য ও কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের আরও ভালো প্রচারের জন্য এই উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে। রাজ্যের মেয়েদের স্বাবলম্বী করে তোলার জন্য মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী শ্রীমতী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের স্বপ্ন কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে সারা রাজ্যে বাস্তবায়িত হয়েছে।

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee launched the Khadya Sathi Scheme today.

On the occasion a colourful parade was held on Red Road.

Under the Khadya Sathi Scheme, 7 crore 49 lakh people, that is, almost 80% of the State’s population, would get rice and wheat at Rs 2 per kg each. A family can get a maximum of 35 kg of food grains per month at subsidised rates.

Recipients would include 33 lakh people of the Jangalmahal region, 12 lakh drought-affected people of Purulia district, 11.24 people, including tea garden workers and their families, 3.11 lakh Cyclone Aila-affected people, 3569 people of Singur who had lost their land, 1700 homeless people of Kolkata and the people living in the Hills region of Darjeeling.

The parade included workers of the Health & Family Welfare Department’s ASHA Scheme with their newly-given bicycles, and new mini-fire tenders, double-decker buses and commercial vehicles bought under the Gatidhara Scheme.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated Watgunge, Amherst Street, Tollygunge and Patuli women’s police stations.

 

The salient features of her speech are as follows:

  • From today, almost 7 crore people out of the 9 crore in Bengal will receive rice and wheat at Rs 2 per kg.
  • I am thankful to the farmers of Bengal for contributing to the stock of grains required for Khadya Sathi.
  • 15 lakh metric tonnes of rice have already been procured, which is more than our target of 10 lakh metric tonnes.
  • The Krishak Mandis have been instrumental in the procurement process.
  • Out of 176 Krishak Mandis, 120-130 are already up and running.
  • We have been providing the people of Singur who lost their land with help until they get their land back.
  • 16 lakh Kanyashree and 40 lakh Sabuj Sathis are part of the development we have made.
  • With Khadya Sathi Scheme, there will be people who will receive benefits from multiple programmes.
  • The Central Government has reduced the allotments for most important social programmes like ICDS.
  • The Central Government can stop them but we cannot stop the benefits being extended to the people of our State.
  • It is our responsibility towards the people, we cannot step back on that promise and commitment.
  • There are people who are busy spreading slandering the developments in Bengal. Who stopped them from working when they were in power?
  • We are aiming for all-around development, from infrastructure to transport, many in collaboration with foreign countries like Japan and Germany.
  • Today the people of the Hills are happy. We are proud of them for the hard work they do.
  • Bengal is surging ahead in medium-scale and small scale business.
  • The people who criticise us should take note of the truth and accept it and not speak without getting their facts right.
  • In four years we have completed work that cannot be normally completed in 40 years.
  • We have worked for the development of every community and caste in Bengal.
  • West Bengal is the perfect example of tolerance where Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and others live in peace and harmony.

 

খাদ্য সাথী প্রকল্পের সূচনা করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী

মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের উদ্যোগে সারা রাজ্যে চালু হল ‘খাদ্য সাথী’ প্রকল্প। সকলের জন্য খাদ্য – আমাদের সংকল্প।

আজ রেড রোডে এই প্রকল্পের সূচনা করলেন মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। একটি কুচকাওয়াজের মাধ্যমে সূচনা হবে এই প্রকল্পের।

রাজ্যের ৭ কোটি ৪৯ লক্ষ মানুষ জাতীয় খাদ্য সুরক্ষা আইন ও খাদ্য সুরক্ষা যোজনার মাধ্যমে এই প্রকল্পের আওতায় আসছেন। এর ফলে রাজ্যের ৭ কোটির অধিক মানুষ ২ টাকা কিলো দরে চাল ও গম পাবেন।

রাজ্যের ৩৩ লক্ষ জঙ্গলমহলবাসী, পুরুলিয়া জেলায় খরা-কবলিত ১২ লক্ষ আধিবাসী, রাজ্যের সমস্ত আদিম উপজাতি সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষ, চা বাগানের ১১.২৪ লক্ষ শ্রমিক ও অশ্রমিক পরিবার, আয়লা-বিধ্বস্ত ৩.১১ লক্ষ মানুষ, সিঙ্গুরের ৩৫৬৯ জন জমিহারা কৃষক, কলকাতায় ১৭০০ গৃহহীন পথবাসী এবং দার্জিলিং জেলার পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের সকল আদিবাসী ২ টাকা কেজি ফরে চাল ও গম পাবেন।

উপরোক্ত গণবণ্টন ব্যবস্থার জন্য রাজ্য সরকার বছরে ৪২৮২ কোটি টাকা ব্যয় করবে।

এই অনুষ্ঠান উপলক্ষে মার্চ পাস্টে অংশগ্রহণ করেছে খাদ্য ও সরবরাহ বিভাগের ‘খাদ্য সাথী’ প্রকল্পের ট্যাবলো।

ওয়াটগঞ্জ, আমহার্স্ট স্ট্রিট, পাটুলি ও টালিগঞ্জ এই ৪টি মহিলা থানার উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee will launch the State Food Security Scheme on January 27 from a programme to be held at the Red Road.

Under the State Food Security Scheme, the State Government will provide five kilos of rice at Rs 2/kg to 7.1 crore people out of 10 crore people of the State. Another 70 lakh people will be able to buy rice at a price half than the market price, under this scheme. People who are below the poverty line will be eligible for this scheme.

The West Bengal Government has already been distributing rice at Rs 2 to people in Jangalmahal, Aila-affected regions of Sunderbans and workers of the tea gardens in north Bengal.

The programme on January 27 will feature bicycle rallies by those who have received cycles under Sabuj Sathi scheme.

The State Government has already undertaken the act of digitizing ration cards. After the launch of the State Food Security Scheme, 90% people of Bengal will be brought under it.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated a cement plant at Salboni belonging to the Jindal Steel Works Group’s.

JSW’s cement plant marks the revival of the biggest investment proposal in Bengal since Independence -Rs 35,000 crore for an integrated steel, power and cement plant -would attract over Rs 800 crore.

The company plans to set up a 2.4 MT cement grinding unit followed by a 300 MW captive power plant at Salboni, involving a total investment of Rs 2,700 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister thanked the Jindals for their initiative. “Development cannot take place by force, it needs to be done with love,” she said.

“We will set up a 300 bedded multi super hospital in Salboni in addition to an ITI & polytechnic college. This area will shine in days to come,” she added.

She said that Jindals wanted to expand their industries in Salboni but iron-ore was a problem. “There should be a national iron ore policy, it will bring about parity and ease the business process,” the CM said.

Reiterating that Jangalmahal is smiling, the Chief Minister added that Bengal is surging ahead in every sphere:

  • Gross Value Added (GVA) of India is 7.5% and that of Bengal is 10.5%
  • The increase in Per Capita Income in 2014-15 in West Bengal is 12.84% while that of India is 6.1%
  • The increase in Industry in 2014-15 in West Bengal stands at 8.34% while that of India is 5.6%
  • The growth in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery in 2014-15 has been 6.49% while that of India is 1.1%

 

She also highlighted the social sector intiatives of the state:

  • 7.7 crore people have been brought under the Food Security Scheme. Rice & wheat is being given at Rs 2 per kg
  • There are 31 lakh Kanyashrees & around 40 lakh cycles being given under Sabuj Sathi
  • 58,000 artists will get a pension of Rs 1000 as well as opportunities in government programmes

 

She concluded her speech with the hope that lives of the local people will transform in the days to come.

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated the second edition of the Jangalmahal Utsav from the Medinipur College Ground, Paschim Medinipur. The Chief Minister also distributed prizes for the Jangalmahal Cup today.

The West Bengal Chief Minister also inaugurated the 300-bedded Onda Super Specialty Hospital and Chhatna Super Specialty Hospital today from the same venue. She also inaugurated the Critical Care Units of Medinipur Medical College & Hospital and Jhargram Zilla Hospital, as well as the SNCU of the Bishnupur Zilla Hospital.

The foundation stone of the new multi-storied building  of the West Bengal Health University also be laid by the Chief Minister through remote control.

The Jangalmahal Cup was held in the four districts of Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Purulia and Birbhum with competitions held in sports like football, Kabaddi and archery.

The Jangalmahal Utsav, to be held from January 5 – 9, 2016, will focus on tribal music, folk songs from Bengal and also showcase the handicrafts from Jangal Mahal.

Highlights of her speech:

  • I love coming to Jangalmahal to see your smiling faces. There is a lot of talent & art in this region.
  • There were more than 42,000 participants this year in the Jangalmahal Cup. Similar sports programs are held in Sunderban as well.
  • I request all the participants to register in the Employment Bank.
  • There are 31 lakh Kanyashrees & around 40 lakh cycles being given under Sabuj Sathi.
  • This year alone we paid Rs 28,000 cr for the debts taken by previous Govt. In 4 years we paid over Rs 1 lakh cr.
  • 6 Multi Super Hospitals are ready in Medinipur district alone. There will be no need to run to Kolkata with sick patients.
  • Multi Super Speciality Hospitals are being set up in Salboni, Debra, Ghatal and Gopiballavpur also besides Onda and Chatna 2 today.
  • 108 Fair Price Medical Shops are operational across the state to provide medicines at cheaper rates to the common people.
  • 9 medical colleges have been set up besides a number of ‘Mother and Child Hubs’ across the State.
  • Critical Care Unit at Medinipur Medical College Hospital & Jhargram Hospital have been set up.
  • We are providing hospital beds free of cost and free treatment for the people of this state.
  • Funds have been given for Medinipur Aurobindo Stadium, land identified and fund allotted for Kharagpur Stadium.
  • 500 Karma Tirthas set up, 7.7 cr people have been brought under the Food Security Scheme. Rice & wheat is being given at Rs 2 per kg.
  • Development of the Kendu leaf collectors have been taken up & insurance programs have been taken up for them to ensure security.
  • We are aiming to include 35 lakh girls under Kanyashree and 16 lakh students under Shikshashree.
  • This area has immense tourist potentials like Mukutmanipur, Ayodhya Hills & Jhargram Rajbari which have been developed.
  • 58,000 artists will get a pension of Rs 1000 as well as opportunities in Govt programs.
  • We have set up ITI’s in Salboni, Lalgarh, Jhargram, Keshwari, Ghatal, Garbeta & other places in Jangalmahal.
  • Polytechnic colleges have been already set up at Medinipur and Ghatal.
  • The State Government is giving out Rs 20 Lakh as loan for higher education.
  • 59,000 students belonging to minority communities have got chance to pursue higher education.
  • We have given Rs 1.24 crores as scholarship to students.
  • 70 new police stations, 8 coastal police stations, 19 human rights courts, 45 women police stations, 88 fast track courts set up.
  • The Bengal Global Business Summit will be held, Bengal will move ahead.

The Youth Services Dept of the West Bengal Government is organising the Chhatro-Yuva Utsav like every year. Conceptualized by the West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee, the student-youth festival received tremendous impulse even from the remote areas of Jangalmahal.

Competitions and different cultural activities will be held at three levels: blocks and boroughs, district and state level.

The three phased festival that kicked off on December 10, 2015 will first be held at block/ municipality/ corporation/ notified area and borough level, till December 15, 2015.

From December 20-23, the competitions will be held at district level and from January 2-4, 2016, competitions will be held at state level.

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee is expected to visit Bandwan in Purulia in the Jangalmahal on November 19.

She is expected to inaugurate a host of projects for Maoist-hit districts even after the central government slashed the Backward Region Grants Fund (BRGF).

Mamata Banerjee had come to Bandwan 31 years ago in 1984.

Incidentally, before the Trinamool Government took charge of West Bengal, Bandwan was one of the areas which was affected largely by radical Left-wing terrorism.

Many Maoists have surrendered since Didi became CM. There is no hunger death in the area. The Government has arranged for subsidized rations at Rs 2 a kilo. Some locals have got jobs. Peace has returned

West Bengal Chief Minister on Friday visited an ailing tribal lady in a remote village in Bankura district. The Chief Minister is currently on a tour of Jangalmahal.

Breaking protocol and deviating from her schedule, Mamata Banerjee – fondly called Didi – stopped her car midway and went to meet this tribal family.

The Chief Minister inquired about their well-being and wanted to know if they are getting rice at subsidised rates. She also asked if they received green ration cards.

In a freewheeling chat, she inquired about the lunch being prepared at the house. She also asked accompanying officials to renovate the house the family lived in.

Such ‘detours’ exemplify how despite occupying high office, Didi is grounded and humane.
