Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today flagged off this year’s Rath Yatra in Kolkata, organised by ISKCON.

Starting from Hungerford Street opposite the ISKCON temple on Albert Road, the raths, or chariots, moved through some of the most important thoroughfares of the city – AJC Bose Road, Sarat Bose Road, Hazra Road, SP Mukherjee Road, ATM Road, Exide crossing, Jawaharlal Nehru Road and Outram Road – to reach the Brigade Parade Ground, where arrangements have been made for daily special darshan of Lord Jagananth, till July 22.

Special prasad will be distributed at the site of the rath on the Brigade Parade Ground every day till July 22, the day of Ulto Rath Yatra. Various cultural programmes will be held during the festival.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said:

  • Rath Yatra is celebrated with a lot of fanfare here. Besides by ISKCON in Kolkata and in Mahesh, it is also celebrated in many other places in Bengal in big or small forms. In fact, the Yatra is celebrated all over the world.
  • We should remember that religion is an integral part of our lives, whatever that religion may be. And festivals are for all to celebrate together.
  • Rath Yatra is for everyone. Devotees purify themselves by pulling the raths of Lord Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra.
  • Lord Jagannath is considered the ‘nath’ or ‘lord’ of the world by many believers.
  • There is a close connection between Maa Kali’s Temple and the Jagannath Temple of Puri.
  • Today, I am praying to Lord Jagannath for the good of all of you, to keep you and your families happy and healthy.
  • I am also praying for peace to reign in Bengal as well as in the entire country, and the whole world.
    Wishing all of you to remain healthy and happy.

The State Government and ISKCON will jointly set up a Vedic Centre for Culture and Education at the Gangasagar fairground on Sagar Island to promote spiritual tourism. The two are also jointly working to build a world-class fountain park, community hall and light-and-sound exhibition to attract visitors.

Gangasagar is visited by thousands of people from all over the country during Makar Sankranti. Because of better road connectivity both domestic and foreign tourists keep on visiting the area throughout the year.

After coming to power in 2011, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has stressed on the need to improve Gangasagar. Roads were built and steps were taken to beautify the area.

Spiritual tourism is coming up in Bengal in a very big way and the State Tourism Department and private tour operators have held several rounds of talks on the matter.

 

ইস্কনের সাথে যৌথ উদ্যোগে গঙ্গাসাগরে বৈদিক কেন্দ্র গড়বে রাজ্য

রাজ্যে আধ্যাত্মিক পর্যটনকে (spiritual tourism) নতুন মাত্রা দিতে এক অভিনব উদ্যোগ নিল রাজ্য সরকার। রাজ্য সরকার এবার ইস্কনের সঙ্গে যৌথ উদ্যোগে সাগরদ্বীপের গঙ্গাসাগর মেলা প্রাঙ্গনে তৈরী করতে চলেছে শিক্ষা ও সংস্কৃতির এক বৈদিক চর্চা কেন্দ্র। পাশাপাশি, পর্যটকদের আকর্ষিত করতে একটি বিশ্বমানের ফাউন্টেন পার্ক, কমিউনিটি হলও গড়া হবে। থাকবে ‘লাইট অ্যান্ড সাউন্ড’ শো।

মকর সংক্রান্তিতে লক্ষ লক্ষ পুণ্যার্থীর সমাগম হয় গঙ্গাসাগরে। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের উদ্যোগে সড়ক যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থা উন্নত মানের হওয়ায় এখন সারা বছরই দেশী ও বিদেশী পর্যটক ভিড় জমান এখানে। এই বৈদিক কেন্দ্রটি তৈরী হলে আরও মানুষ এখানে আসবেন।

২০১১ সালে ক্ষমতায় আসার পর মুখ্যমন্ত্রী গঙ্গাসাগরের সংস্কারে জোর দিয়েছেন। হয়েছে নতুন রাস্তা, সেজে উঠেছে সাগরদ্বীপ।

প্রসঙ্গত, ইতিমধ্যেই রাজ্যে আধ্যাত্মিক পর্যটন গতি পেয়েছে। রাজ্য পর্যটন দপ্তর ও বিভিন্ন বেসরকারি সংস্থার উদ্যোগে নানা ধর্মীয় স্থানে নানা ট্যুরের ব্যবস্থা করা হচ্ছে।

The Bengal Government will give the Mayapur-based ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) 51 varieties of rice. These would be planted on the 100 acres where ISKCON cultivates paddy.

After a request from ISKCON, the State Government has come forward with providing it with 51 varieties of rice which will be grown organically. The government will also provide them with expert advice. Among the varieties to be provided are Dadshal, Radhatilak, Gobindabhog, Keralasundari and others.

Most of these are indigenous varieties, also known as folk rice varieties, and are highly nutritious; many are also aromatic. The Bengal Government, by itself and also in collaboration with some scientific organisations, is trying to revive these varieties. Gifting ISKCON these 51 varieties is part of that effort.

ইসকনকে ৫১ প্রজাতির ধানের বীজ দেবে রাজ্য

 

মায়াপুরের ইসকন মন্দির কতৃপক্ষকে ৫১ প্রজাতির ধানের বীজ দেবে রাজ্য সরকার। মায়াপুরের ইসকন কতৃপক্ষের হাতে প্রায় ১০০ একর কৃষিজমি রয়েছে। তার একটি অংশে কৃষিকাজ করেন মন্দির কতৃপক্ষ । প্রধানত জৈবিক চাষেই তাঁদের বেশি আগ্রহ। কারণ ,জৈবচাষ উৎপাদিত ফসলের চাহিদা রয়েছে বিদেশি ভক্তদের মধ্যে। তাছাড়াও ,জৈবচাষে উৎপাদিত ফসলের চাহিদা রয়েছে বিদেশি ভক্তদের মধ্যে। তাছাড়াও , জৈব চাষেবাড়তি গুরুত্ব দিচ্ছে ইসকন।

সেই সূত্রে কৃষি দফতরের কর্তা -আধিকারিকদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ হয়েছিল ইসকন কতৃপক্ষের। সম্প্রতি সিদ্ধান্ত হয়েছে ,প্রায় ৫১ প্রজাতির ধানের বীজ ইসকনকে দেবে রাজ্য সরকার। সঙ্গে দেওয়া হবে বিশেষজ্ঞর পরামর্শ এবং সহযোগিতা। যে প্রজাতির ধানের বীজ দেওয়া হবে সেগুলির মধ্যে দাদশাল ,রাধাতিলক ,গোবিন্দভোগ ,কেরালাসুন্দরী অন্যতম। প্রজাতিগুলির বেশিরভাগই সুগন্ধি।

প্রতিদিন ভক্তদের জন্য ভোগের ব্যবস্থা করে ইসকন।৫২ সপ্তাহে এক বছর হয়।সেই সূত্রে প্রতি সপ্তাহে পৃথক পৃথক প্রজাতির চালে ভোগ দিতে পারবেন ইসকন কতৃপক্ষ।তাতে জৈব চাষের প্রচার বাড়বে।ভোগের পাশাপাশি ,চাল বিক্রি করলে রাজ্যের লুপ্তপ্রায় কিছু প্রজাতির চালের প্রচার বাড়বে। পাশাপাশি জৈব চাষ নিয়ে রাজ্য সরকারের পদক্ষেপ প্রতিষ্ঠিত হবে।

বিশেষজ্ঞরা পরীক্ষা করে দেখেছেন , ইসকনের জমিতে রাধাতিলক চালের ফলন সবথেকে বেশি।কারণ,গঙ্গা এবং জলঙ্গীর সংযোগস্থলের থাকা ওই জমিগুলি ওই চাষের জন্য উপযুক্ত। সেকারণে এত ধরণের চালের বীজ দিতে চাইছে রাজ্য।তবে এজন্য লভ্যাংশ দাবি করা হবে না বলে কৃষি দফতর সূত্রের খবর।
