The homestay facilities in Dooars region are all booked to full for the festive season. This is a huge shot in the arm for the Bangla Government, led by Mamata Banerjee, who has been working tirelessly for the last seven years to project the state as an ideal tourist destination.

All the homestay cottages in Lataguri and Dhupjhora region in Jalpaiguri district, and the hamlets in Kalimpong district, have full booking for the festive period. The homestay owners and tour operators have expressed their happiness over this development.

Lataguri and Dhupjhora are extremely popular tourist destinations. Every year during Durga Puja, tourists throng these places. Additionally, several new homestay facilities have opened near Jaldhaka and Gorubathan. The natural beauty of these places is too alluring for tourists to ignore.

In the last two-three years, there has been a considerable rise in the number of homestay facilities in the State. The government has also come up with a new homestay tourism policy. This has led to a tourism boom for north Bengal.

The state Tourism department has decided to set up more tourist lodges in various parts of North Bengal and it has already identified land where the proposed lodges would be constructed.

A tourist lodge will be set up inside the forest near Chalsa. A tourist lodge would also come up at Domhani area of Jalpaiguri.

A Day Centre would also be constructed in the forest area of Bhutanghat in Alipurduar.

The tourists lodges are being constructed in places abound in natural beauty.

It may be mentioned that after coming to power, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government laid great stress on developing the tourism infrastructure across the state.

A host of new projects have come up promoting various tourist spots in the state. Homestay has also been given a special importance by the government. It is aimed at helping boost the socio-economic condition of villagers in North Bengal. Tiger Safari is also coming up in North Bengal, which is believed to be one of the largest attractions in the state.

 

উত্তরবঙ্গে আরও লজ তৈরী করবে পর্যটন দপ্তর

উত্তরবঙ্গের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে পর্যটকদের জন্য আরও লজ তৈরি করার রাজ্য পর্যটন দপ্তর সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে, সেই জন্য উপযুক্ত জমিও চিহ্নিত করা হয়ে গেছে। এমন জায়গা নির্বাচন করা হয়েছে যেখানে পর্যটকরা প্রকৃতির অনাবিল সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করতে পারবেন।

চালসার কাছে জঙ্গলে একটি লজ তৈরি করা হবে, জলপাইগুড়ির দোমহনিতেও তৈরি করা হবে আরেকটি লজ। আলিপুরদুয়ারের ভুটানঘাটের জঙ্গলে একটি ডে-সেন্টার তৈরি করা হবে। উত্তরবঙ্গের আর্থসামাজিক পরিকাঠামো আরও মজবুত করতেই এই উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হচ্ছে।

ক্ষমতায় আসার পর মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নেতৃত্বে রাজ্য সরকার সারা রাজ্য জুড়েই পর্যটনের বিকাশে জোর দিয়েছে। রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন পর্যটন কেন্দ্রগুলিকে আরও উন্নত করতে শুরু হয়েছে নানা প্রকল্প।

রাজ্য সরকারের তরফে হোম স্টে ব্যবস্থার ওপরেও বিশেষ জোর দেওয়া হচ্ছে। কিছুদিনের মধ্যে উত্তরবঙ্গে “টাইগার সাফারি” শুরু হতে চলেছে; আশা করা যায় এর ফলে উত্তরবঙ্গের পর্যটন আরও আকর্ষণীয় হয়ে উঠবে।

Bengal Government is ready with the new homestay policy and it is ready to be placed in next state Cabinet meeting, state Tourism minister said.

The idea was conceptualised by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while she was travelling in North Bengal. She instructed the state Tourism department to frame the policy as soon as possible.

“The Homestay permits tourists to board and lodge with local residents and get an instant feel of the society and culture there. This gives a chance for the residents to have a mean of livelihood as well,” the minister said.

“The intention is to spread the homestay culture in Bengal only for a growing footfall of foreign tourists,” the minister added.

The families involved in the homestay would be brought under Bread & Breakfast Scheme, which will help them by having a tie-up with Incredible India. Also, plans are going on to start community development and organic farming in places – Darjeeling, Lamahata, Purulia, Bankura, Mandarmoni and in many other places.

 

পর্যটনের বিকাশের জন্য নয়া ‘হোম স্টে নীতি’ তৈরী রাজ্যের

বাংলাকে পর্যটকদের কাছে আরও জনপ্রিয় করতে নতুন পদক্ষেপ নিতে চলেছে রাজ্য সরকার। রাজ্য মন্ত্রিসভায় শীঘ্রই পেশ করা হবে নতুন ‘হোম স্টে নীতি’ জানালেন রাজ্যের পর্যটন মন্ত্রী।

নতুন ‘হোম স্টে’ নীতি তৈরির ভাবনা মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের। উত্তরবঙ্গ পরিদর্শনে গিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী এই সিদ্ধান্ত নেন এবং পর্যটন দপ্তরকে দ্রুত এই কাজ বাস্তবায়নের নির্দেশ দেন।

মন্ত্রী জানান, পর্যটকদের আকর্ষণের উদ্দেশ্যেই বাংলায় এই হোম স্টে কালচার আনার পরিকল্পনা করা হয়েছে। এর ফলে পর্যটকরা এই এলাকার সংস্কৃতি সম্পর্কে যেমন অবগত হবেন তেমনই বেশ কিছু কর্মসংস্থানও তৈরি হবে এর ফলে।

ইতোমধ্যেই দার্জিলিং ও ডুয়ার্সের পাহাড়ের প্রত্যন্ত এলাকাগুলিতে ‘হোম স্টে’ পর্যটকদের কাছে ভীষণ ভাবে জনপ্রিয় হয়ে উঠেছে৷

দার্জিলিং, লামাহাটা, পুরুলিয়া, বাঁকুড়া, মন্দারমনি এবং অনেক অন্যান্য স্থানে – হোম স্টে ফেসিলিটির সঙ্গে জৈব চাষের ক্ষেত্রেও জোর দেওয়া হবে। অরগ্যানিক ফুড হবে আরেকটি আকর্ষণ৷

Two thousand rooms and increasing, home stays are the new craze for tourists visiting north Bengal. Home tourism in Darjeeling Hills is set to get another boost. The State government has decided to promote organic farming in areas promoting home stays.

The move is also aimed to streamline the services and to have a data base on home stay facilities and to categorise them as per their standard. The concept started during the last Commonwealth Games in Delhi to provide world class services to tourists and to supplement the availability of accommodation in the metros and tourist destinations.

Home stays have become very popular in remote tourist destinations in Dooars and Darjeeling hills where many unemployed youths and families have made them their main source of income.

“There are more than 2,000 home stay rooms and the number is increasing rapidly,” said Goutam Deb, West Bengal tourism minister. “The State government will religiously and seriously promote home stays. We will also promote organic farming in the areas coming up with home stay facilities. Organic food would be another attraction,” said the Minister.

 

উত্তরবঙ্গে হোম-স্টে পর্যটনে নতুন উদ্যোগ রাজ্যের

দার্জিলিঙের হোম ট্যুরিজম একটি নতুন দিশা পেতে চলেছে। উত্তরবঙ্গ পরিদর্শনে আসা পর্যটকদের জন্য ২০০০ এর বেশি হোম ষ্টে রুমের ব্যবস্থা করা হয়েছে। হোম স্টে প্রমোট করার পাশাপাশি চারপাশের এলাকায় জৈব চাষ করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার।

দার্জিলিং আর ডুয়ার্সের পাহাড়ের প্রত্যন্ত এলাকাগুলিতে হোম ষ্টে পর্যটকদের কাছে ভীষণ ভাবে জনপ্রিয় হয়ে উঠেছে এবং এগুলি এখানকার বেকার যুবক ও তাদের পরিবারগুলির আয়ের প্রধান উৎস।

রাজ্যের পর্যটন মন্ত্রী গৌতম দেব বলেন, “এখনও পর্যন্ত ২০০০ এর বেশি হোম ষ্টে রুম আছে এবং এর সংখ্যা আরও বাড়ানো হবে”।

তিনি আরও জানান, “রাজ্য সরকার অত্যন্ত গুরুত্ব সহকারে হোম ষ্টে-র উন্নয়নের উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে। হোম ষ্টে ফেসিলিটির সঙ্গে জৈব চাষের ক্ষেত্রেও জোর দেওয়া হবে। অরগ্যানিক ফুড হবে আরেকটি আকর্ষণ”।

The call of the mountains. Lush green forest. The glittering waters of Jayanti river at sunrise. An encounter with bisons and deer (may be elephants and tiger too, if you are lucky). And butterflies – the main attraction of Jayanti forests. The butterflies are the reason why Buxa-Jayanti forests are called Queen of Dooars.

If you want to escape into the lap of nature, you must visit Jayanti. The newly renovated forest bunglow at Jayanti was inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday. She also launched seven newly-built cottages at the Jayanti forest. Online booking of these cottages will be made available by the Forest Department soon.

In a fire accident in 2011, the forest bungalow at Jayanti was destroyed. WB CM Mamata Banerjee, during her visit to Dooars had instructed that the bungalow be renovated. Clearly, the newly opened cottages and bungalow will boost tourism in Dooars ahead of the festive season.

The Eco-tourism Advisory Board held its first meeting at Nabanna on Wednesday . The board gave the go ahead to the proposed eco trail link between Bakkhali and Jambudweep. The Gangasagar Bakkhali Development Authority (GBDA) has been asked to submit a feasibility report within a week.

The project details will be worked out in consultation with the forest department. The urban development department has already come up with some preliminary proposals like setting up an Interpretation Centre, a few tent-camps and a guided photography trail for nature enthusiasts.

There is also a proposal to introduce a proper river transport by developing a route between Bakkhali and Jambudweep, somewhere near the fishing harbour point at Edward Creek.

A jetty has also been proposed to be constructed at the northeastern shore of Jambudweep along with the nature interpretation centre.Officials said that, at present, no tourist is allowed to step into Jambudweep.

The eco-tourism board was constituted by the West Bengal Government last year for developing new eco tourist spots. It was during the West Bengal Chief Minister’slast visit to Gangasagar in October last year that she had expressed her desire to develop an ecotourism circuit between Bakkhali, Jambudweep and Gangasagar.

The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has also prepared a Rs 300crore plan for developing Gangasagar. The plan includes promotion of three virgin beaches in the area without affecting the eco-system. It has been submitted to the ministry of water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation to be considered for implementation under the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) scheme.

Plans are being made to introduce homestay tourism in 23 villages of Sundarban too. Samshernagar in Hingalganj, Koikhali in Kultali, and Nafarganj in Basanti have been selected initially for the purpose.
