To improve the production of the ever-popular hilsa (ilish) in the state, the Bengal Government has decided to take help from marine scientists of Norway and experts specifically on hilsa.

For this, the government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Norwegian government. A delegation from the country has already visited the state.

Already, with the help of marine scientists of Jadavpur University, the government has started cultivation of the fish in five regions, comprising estuarine regions and regions in the Ganga basin.

As a result of these initiatives, not only would hilsa become more affordable, hilsa cultivators would also be able to earn a viable livelihood.

 

রাজ্যে ইলিশ মাছের ফলন বাড়াতে সাহায্য করবে নরওয়ে

বাংলায় ইলিশের উৎপাদন বাড়াতে নরওয়ের বিজ্ঞানী ও ইলিশ বিশেষজ্ঞদের সাহায্য নিচ্ছে রাজ্য সরকার। পাশাপাশি যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সমুদ্রবিজ্ঞানীদের সাহায্যে প্রাথমিক ভাবে সাগর মোহনায় এবং গঙ্গা নদীর অববাহিকায় ৫টি এলাকা চিহ্নিত করে, বিশেষ প্রকল্পে হাত দিয়েছে রাজ্য।

এ ব্যাপারে নরওয়ের সঙ্গে রাজ্যের মৌ স্বাক্ষরিত হয়েছে। তাদের একটি প্রতিনিধিদল ইতিমধ্যেই রাজ্যে ঘুরে গেছে, আবার আসবে। যাদবপুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সমুদ্রবিজ্ঞানের গবেষকরাও রাজ্য সরকারের কথায় আগেই একটি রিপোর্ট দিয়েছিলেন।

সেপ্টেম্বরের পূর্ণিমার ৫দিন আগে থেকে অক্টোবরের পূর্ণিমার ৫দিন পর পর্যন্ত নদীতে ইলিশ মাছ ধরা একেবারেই নিষিদ্ধ করা হবে। এজন্য ইলিশ ধরার ওপর নির্ভরশীল মৎস্যজীবী পরিবারকে বিকল্প আয়ের ব্যপারে মৎস্য দপ্তর সহযোগিতা করবে।

মূলত যে পাঁচটি জায়গায় ইলিশ ধরা ওই সময়ে নিষিদ্ধ করা হবে, সেগুলি হল:

১. সুন্দরবনে ঠাকুরানী, মাতলা ও রায়মঙ্গল নদীর অববাহিকায় পাঁচ বর্গ কিলোমিটার
২. ফারাক্কা বাঁধ এলাকা
৩. ফারাক্কা থেকে লালবাগ পর্যন্ত এলাকা
৪. ডায়মন্ড হারবার থেকে নিসচিন্দপুর, গোদাখালি
৫. বলাগড়, হুগলী ঘাট থেকে কাটোয়া।

এই উদ্যোগের ফলে ইলিশ মাছ শুধু যে সুলভ হবে তা নয়, পাশাপাশি বাংলার মৎস্যজীবীদের সুদিনও আসবে।

Besides making all arrangements for the safety and security of the people visiting the Gangasagar Mela in January to take the holy dip at the confluence of River Ganga and the Bay of Bengal, the Bengal Government has also decided to bring them under an insurance scheme of Rs 5 lakh each.

A high-level meeting headed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held at Nabanna on December 8 also discussed the preparations and other aspects about the annual pilgrimage. In 2018, it will be held from January 10 to 16.

A senior IPS officer and a senior administrative officer, both with vast experience on overseeing the Gangasagar Mela during previous years, have been assigned to supervise the preparations and the fair itself. Directions have been given to set up a permanent bus stand and also to ensure that no unnecessary congestion takes place.

There will be sufficient number of vessels to ensure that people do not face trouble in reaching Sagar Island by crossing the Muriganga river from the mainland. RO-RO (roll on-roll off) services would be introduced by the government for that purpose, so that both vehicles and their owners can cross.

Live every year, closed-circuit television (CCTV) system will be used to maintain video surveillance at the fair site, and at a few other areas. This year, though, a new aspect has been introduced – live tracking. The real-time monitoring system, with feed from the CCTV system, will enable all senior administrative and police officers to watch live footages of all the transit and other crucial points on their mobile phones.

The State Irrigation Department has also been directed to carry out dredging at different locations on Muriganga to ensure easy movement of vessels. The State Civil Defence Department will place speed boats and other arrangements to combat any untoward situation, if they arise.

In a bid to keep the fairground clean and green, the concerned officials have been asked to take necessary steps to keep the island free from open defecation. Women-friendly toilets will also be set up. There will be volunteers to urge people to use dustbins.

 

গঙ্গাসাগরে যাত্রী–বীমা ৫ লক্ষের

আগামী বছর গঙ্গাসাগর মেলা যাঁরাই যাবেন তাঁদের প্রত্যেককে ৫ লক্ষ টাকার বীমার আওতায় আনা হবে।

নবান্নে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেন, ১০ থেকে ১৬ই জানুয়ারি সাগরমেলা চলার সময় যাঁরাই মেলায় আসবেন তাঁদের প্রত্যেককে রাজ্য সরকারের তরফ ৫ লক্ষ টাকার বীমা করিয়ে দেওয়া হবে। অর্থাৎ মেলা চলাকালীন তীর্থযাত্রী–‌সহ যাঁরা মেলায় উপস্থিত থাকবেন, তাঁরা যদি কোনও রকম দুর্ঘটনার কবলে পড়েন, তাহলে তাঁর পরিবার ৫ লক্ষ টাকা পাবেন।

সাগর মেলা শুরু হওয়ার আগেই কচুবেড়িয়ায় ৫টি জেটি সংস্কারের কাজ শেষ করার নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। মেলা জুড়ে আঁটোসাঁটো নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থা তো থাকছেই, পাশাপাশি ৩জি, ৪জি অপটিক্যাল ফাইবার পেতে মোবাইল অ্যাপের সাহায্যে নজরদারি চলবে।

মেলা প্রাঙ্গণের দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে পূর্তমন্ত্রী, পঞ্চায়েত মন্ত্রী, সাগরের বিধায়ক, সাংসদ মণীশ গুপ্তকে। কলকাতা থেকে মেলায় ঢোকার আগে পর্যন্ত তদারকির দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে সেচমন্ত্রী, পুরমন্ত্রী, কলকাতার মহানাগরিক এবং সুন্দরবন উন্নয়ন মন্ত্রীকে।

মেলা ঘিরে যাতে কোনও অপ্রীতিকর পরিস্থিতি তৈরি না হয় তার ওপর কড়া নজর থাকছে।

The Bengal Government is going to start the construction of three bridges. Two bridges would span the Ganga and another would be over the Ajay River. The bridges would lead to improved cultural as well as trade ties.

The ones over the Ganga would connect Shantipur to Kalna and Budge Budge to Fuleshwar.

The former would also lead to connecting Shantipur and Kalna to Saptagram, Triveni, Katwa and other places along that route. The cultural heritage of Shantipur is well-known: there is the Shantipur saree as well as the Rash Mela, held every year.

Another bridge would be built over the Ajay River – it would be called Kenduli Setu. The river runs for some distance along the border of Birbhum and Paschim Bardhaman. The bridge would connect Kenduli in Birbhum district at one end, and hence the name. Kenduli, like Shantipur, is also famous as the venue for a fair. Every year, on January 15, a huge fair is held in Kenduli, which attracts lakhs of people.

Thus we see that the bridges would connect places of cultural importance; hence, they would strengthen the tourism. Additionally, through the smoother and faster flow of people and goods, they would lead to improved trade.

 

গঙ্গায় ২টি ও অজয়ে ১টি সেতু তৈরি করবে রাজ্য সরকার

 

গঙ্গার ওপর এবার আরও একটি নতুন সেতু নির্মাণের কাজ শুরু করতে চলেছে রাজ্য সরকার। শান্তিপুর থেকে কালনা পর্যন্ত হবে এই নতুন সেতু। অন্যদিকে বজবজ থেকে ফুলেশ্বর পর্যন্ত দ্বিতীয় সেতুটির ডিপিআর তৈরির কাজও শুরু হয়েছে বলে নবান্ন সূত্রে খবর।

শান্তিপুর থেকে কালনা প্রায় ১কিলোমিটার দৈর্ঘ্যের এই সেতুর ‘অ্যাপ্রোচ এরিয়া’ ধরে প্রায় পৌনে দুই কিলোমিটারের এই সেতু তৈরি করবে রাজ্য সরকার।

শান্তিপুর থেকে কালনার দুরত্ব এক সরল রেখায় মাপলে সাত কিলোমিটার। সময় কম লাগে বলে প্রচুর মানুষ সড়ক পথের বদলে জল পথেই বেশী যাতায়াত করে। ফেরি পরিষেবায় যাত্রী সংখ্যার চাপ প্রবল। এই ধরনের সমস্যার কথা মাথায় রেখে রাজ্য সরকার নতুন এই সেতু নির্মাণের পরিকল্পনা করেছে।

মূলত এই সেতু নির্মাণ হলে গঙ্গার ধার বরাবর সপ্তগ্রাম, ত্রিবেণী, কালনা ও কাটোয়া (এসটিকেকে) এক সঙ্গে যুক্ত করা যাবে শান্তিপুরের সঙ্গে। শান্তিপুরের সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্য বহু আগে থেকে সুবিদিত। রাসের মেলায় বহু মানুষের সমাগম হয় এখানে। গঙ্গার দুই পারের এই সংযোগ গড়ে উঠলে ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্য থেকে পর্যটন সব ক্ষেত্রেই উন্নয়ন হবে।

পাশাপাশি সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্য ও পর্যটনের কথা মাথায় রেখে অজয় নদীর ওপর কেন্দুলি সেতু নির্মাণ করতে চলেছে রাজ্য সরকার। প্রতি বছর ১৫ জানুয়ারি বীরভূমের কেন্দুলিতে বাউল মেলাকে কেন্দ্র করে লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষের সমাগম হয়।

অজয় নদীর ওপর কেন্দুলি সেতু তৈরি করে বীরভূম ও বর্ধমানের মধ্যে সহজ যোগাযোগ গড়ে তুলতেই এই সেতু নির্মাণ করতে চলেছে রাজ্য সরকার।

Adventure sports activities have started on the Ganga under the aegis of Kolkata Police. ‘Kolkata River Water Sports’, as the initiative has been named, started on August 12. The activities are held every Saturday and Sunday.

There are three types of rides at present – jet skis, bumpy rides and boating. Anyone can enjoy the rides, be they trained or novices. Before going on the rides, one has to have one’s name uploaded on the Kolkata Police website.

According to a senior official of Kolkata Police, the rides have gained a lot of popularity. During the last week, about 300 people have enjoyed the rides. Though people of all ages are trying it out, youngsters are especially enjoying the rides. The authorities are hoping the rides will become even more popular in the coming days.

গঙ্গাতেও ওয়াটার স্পোর্টসের অ্যাডভেঞ্চারের স্বাদ

অবশেষে শুরু হল গঙ্গায় মনোরঞ্জন, সৌজন্যে কলকাতা পুলিশ। কলকাতা পুলিশের উদ্যোগে শুরু হল ‘কলকাতা রিভার ওয়াটার স্পোর্টস’। চলতি মাসের ১২ তারিখ শুরু হয়েছে ওয়াটার স্পোর্টস।

প্রতি সপ্তাহের শনিবার ও রবিবার চলছে এই ওয়াটার স্পোর্টস। মূলত তিন ধরনের রাইড থাকছে এই মুহূর্তে। জেটস কি, বাম্পি রাইডস ও বোট। যারা প্রশিক্ষণপ্রাপ্ত তাঁরা অংশ গ্রহণ করতে পারবেন। কিন্তু যারা প্রশিক্ষণ প্রাপ্ত নয় তারাও এই রাইডে অংশ গ্রহণ করতে পারবেন। অপ্রশিক্ষিতদের জন্য এই রাইডে চালক থাকবে।

রাইড এনজয় করার আগে আপনাকে কলকাতা পুলিশের কাছে তাদের ওয়েবসাইটে নাম নথিভুক্ত করতে হবে। ডিসি পোর্ট ওয়াকার রাজা জানান, বেশ সাড়া পাওয়া যাচ্ছে। এই সপ্তাহে প্রায় ৩০০ জন এই রাইড এনজয় করেছে। বাচ্চা থেকে বয়স্করা ওয়াটার স্পোর্টসে অংশ গ্রহণ করেছে। বিশেষ করে ইওং স্টারদের মধ্যে এই রাইড করার ঝোঁকটা বেশী। আগামী দিনে এটা আরও সফল হবে বলে মনে করেন পুলিশ কর্তারা।

The Bengal Government is soon going to introduce five steel vessels, each with a capacity of 250 passengers, for ferrying passengers across the Ganga.

The steel vessels have been made by the West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBTIDC). Each of the sturdy vessels cost Rs 1.60 lakh.

Through the Jaladhara Scheme introduced recently, the State Government has undertaken a slew of measures for the safe transport of passengers across the waterways of Bengal.

As per the scheme, the State Government would provide financial assistance in the form of thirty per cent of the conversion cost or a maximum of Rs 1 lakh for each of the around 14,000 semi-mechanised boats plying the Ganga to be converted into fully mechanised ones. The jetties on the river would also be overhauled.

 

যাত্রী নিরাপত্তায় আরও ৫ টি নতুন ভেসেল আনছে পরিবহণ দপ্তর

গঙ্গায় যাত্রী নিরাপত্তায় জোর দিতে শীঘ্রই ৫ টি স্টিল ভেসেল আনতে চলেছে রাজ্য পরিবহন নিগম। আগামী দুই সপ্তাহের মধ্যেই এগুলি পরিষেবা দেওয়া শুরু করবে। ধাপে ধাপে আরও ৬ টি ভেসেল আনা হবে। পুজোর আগেই সেগুলি কাজ করা শুরু করবে।

সবকটি ভেসেল তৈরী করছে টিআইডিসি। এক একটা ভেসেল তৈরী করতে খরচ হবে ১ লক্ষ ৬০হাজার টাকা। প্রতিটি ভেসেলে ২৫০ জন যাত্রী যাতায়াত করতে পারবে।

যেসব জায়গায় গঙ্গা চওড়া ভেসেল গুলি সেখানে চালানো হবে। ভেসেলগুলিতে অগ্নিনির্বাপক যন্ত্র থেকে শুরু করে নিরাপত্তার সবরকম ব্যবস্থা থাকবে।

এই মুহূর্তে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ পরিবহণ নিগমের ২৪টি যাত্রীবাহী ভেসেল চলাচল কর । মালবাহী ভেসেল চলে ৪টি।

The Bengal government has organised a ‘weekend Ganga cruise’ at pocket friendly rates. The West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation (WBTDC) has recently started the packaged tour, which can be booked online. The journey which starts from New Babughat Jetty and concludes at Babughat, costs only Rs 450.

The weekend Ganga cruise begins at around 3:30 pm and ends at 7:00 pm. The three-and-half-hour exceptional experience on the river Hooghly at dusk has impressed the tourists, especially foreigners who visit Kolkata. The picturesque view along both sides of Ganga, the localities alongside the riverbank, the setting sun and boats and ships makes for a beautiful experience for the tourists.

The tourists will start their journey boarding the vessel MV Sumangal. They will cross the Dakshineswar Temple and reach Belur Math. They will get down there to visit the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Later they will return to vessel and the trip concludes at Babughat at around 7 pm.

 

উইকেন্ডে গঙ্গায় ‘ক্রুজ’ প্যাকেজ পর্যটন দপ্তরের

উইকেন্ডে গঙ্গায় ‘ক্রুজ’ এখন মানুষের আরও সাধ্যের মধ্যে। রাজ্য পর্যটন দপ্তরের উদ্যোগে শুরু হয়েছে একটি নতুন ‘উইকেন্ড ক্রুজ’। নিউ বাবুঘাট জেটি থেকে শুরু করে সাড়ে তিন ঘন্টার এই ক্রুজ শেষ হবে বাবুঘাটেই। টিকিটের দাম ৪৫০ টাকা। প্যাকেজটি অনলাইনেও বুক করা যাবে।

ক্রুজটি শুরু হবে বিকেল ৩.৩০টেয় ও শেষ হবে ৭টায়। ‘এমভি সুমঙ্গলে’ যাত্রা শুরু করে পর্যটকরা দক্ষিনেশ্বর মন্দির পেরিয়ে বেলুড় মঠ পৌছবেন। সেখানে তারা রামকৃষ্ণ মঠ ও মিশনা সময় কাটিয়ে সন্ধ্যে ৭ টায় বাবুঘাটের উদ্দেশ্যে রওনা হতে পারবেন।

The Bengal Tourism department is all set to start Houseboat services likely on River. Like Dal Lake in Kashmir and the backwaters of Kerala, the proposed houseboats will have all the amenities of a star hotel.

The air-conditioned houseboats, costing Rs1.2 Crore each, will have three rooms with all facilities like a kitchen, a common drawing room, etc. The tourists will be able to enjoy moonlit nights, the monsoon of Bengal or the winter chill staying in these floating hotels.

Initially, around five to six houseboats will be put to service. The boats will be anchored near the jetties. Besides setting up the houseboats, around 50 jetties are also being restructured. Security measures are also being scrutinized for the safety of the tourists.

It is expected that the houseboats will be ready in the next six months and be made available for tourists by the end of the year.

 

পর্যটক টানতে হাউসবোট পরিষেবা চালু করছে রাজ্য সরকার

কাশ্মীরের ডাল লেকের মত গঙ্গা, গঙ্গাসাগর ও দীঘায় হাউসবোট নামানোর পরিকল্পনা নিয়েছে রাজ্য পর্যটন দপ্তর। দৃষ্টিনন্দন বাংলাকে পর্যটনের শিখরে তুলতে চান মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

কাশ্মীদের ডাল লেকে যেমন হাউসবোটে কাটান পর্যটকরা, তেমনিই সুযোগ‌–সুবিধে থাকবে বাংলার হাউসবোটে। একেবারে ফাইভ স্টার হোটেল না হলেও সব পর্যটক যাতে নিজেদের নাগালের মধ্যে বোটে রাত কাটাতে পারেন, সেই রকমই ভাড়া ঠিক করা হবে। চাঁদনি রাতে অথবা বর্ষায়, কনকনে শীতে এই হাউসবোটে থাকার অভিজ্ঞতা অন্যরকম হবে।

গঙ্গা, দক্ষিণে গঙ্গাসাগর অথবা পশ্চিমে দীঘায় থাকবে হাউসবোটগুলি। আপাতত ৫–৬টি হাউসবোট চালু করার পরিকল্পনা নেওয়া হয়েছে। এই শীতাতপ নিয়ন্ত্রিত বোটগুলি তৈরি করতে প্রতিটির জন্য খরচ হচ্ছে ১.২ কোটি টাকা। প্রতিটি বোটে রান্নাঘর, ড্রয়িং রুম সহ তিনটি করে ঘর থাকবে, এছাড়া থাকবে আরও অনেক রকম সুযোগ-সুবিধা।

আশা করা যায়, আগামী ছয় মাসের মধ্যে এই হাউস বোটগুলি প্রস্তুত হয়ে যাবে এবং এ বছরের শেষ নাগাদ পর্যটকদের জন্য খুলে দেওয়া হবে। এছাড়া ৫০টির মতো জেটির সংস্কার ও সৌন্দর্যায়ন করবে পরিবহণ দপ্তর। প্যটকের নিরাপত্তাও সুনিশ্চিত করা হচ্ছে।

The West Bengal Government will launch a tree plantation drive on the banks of the river Ganges in Bengal.

A coordination meeting was held on Saturday for all the Government departments concerned to work out the overall plan; the drive will be based on the operating guidelines to be provided by the Centre.

The West Bengal Government, under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, was working on plans to launch a sapling plantation drive across the state during the monsoon.

The project of planting saplings on the bank of Ganges has been cleared by National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).

A project, pegged at Rs 15 crore, to build ghats and a crematorium along the Ganga at Garulia in North 24-Parganas, was also sanctioned. It will be launched by the state forest department.

 

গঙ্গার ঘাটে গাছ লাগানোর উদ্যোগ রাজ্য সরকারের

সম্প্রতি গঙ্গার ধারে বৃক্ষরোপণের কাজ শুরু করবে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার। কলকাতা শহরের সৌন্দর্যায়নের এটি একটি নতুন পদক্ষেপ।

শনিবার একটি কো-অর্ডিনেশন বৈঠক হয়। এই বৈঠকে সব সরকারী বিভাগগুলির সংশ্লিষ্ট কাজের সামগ্রিক পরিকল্পনা করা হয়। কেন্দ্রের দেওয়া অপারেটিং নির্দেশাবলী উপর ভিত্তি করেই এই প্রজেক্ট করা হবে।

মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নেতৃত্বে তৃণমূল সরকার বর্ষার সময় সারা রাজ্য জুড়ে বৃক্ষরোপণের এই পরিকল্পনা গ্রহণ করেছে।

গঙ্গার ধারে চারা গাছ রোপণ প্রকল্পের কাজ ন্যাশনাল মিশন ফর ক্লিন গঙ্গা দ্বারা অনুমোদিত।

উত্তর ২৪ পরগণা জেলার গারুলিয়াতে ঘাট এবং শশ্মান তৈরি করা হবে, এর জন্য১৫ কোটি টাকা বরাদ্দ করা হয়েছে। এটি রাজ্যের বন বিভাগ চালু করবে।

UPA ke zamane mein jab National Ganga River Basin Authority tha, tab Khardah aur Kamarhati ka jitney Ganga ka ghat hai unka marammad karwaya gaya kendriya sarkar ke paise se. Peechle der saal se main chithi likh raha hoon, lekin paisa nahin mila.

Lekin Baranagar, jis ke saath Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath aur Prasanta Mahalanobis ka naam jura hua hai, uske marammad ke liye paise nahi diye jaa rahe hai.

The West Bengal Government has another reason to smile. A recent meeting held in Delhi shows that Bengal tops in executing the clean Ganga mission schemes among the five states through which the Ganges flows. The other four states are Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

The meeting was held by officials of the ministry of water resources to review the performance of the five Ganga states in implementing National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) schemes.

According to officials, the data shows that Bengal, which also has the highest number of sanctioned projects, has completed 23 out of the 30 sanctioned projects that are being implemented in 24 towns across the state, with a sanctioned cost of Rs 1352 crore.

Uttarakhand comes next, completing two projects out of the 16 sanctioned projects being implemented in 11 towns there, with a sanctioned cost of Rs 251.21 crore. Uttar Pradesh is yet to complete any of the 15 sanctioned and ongoing projects. Bihar is implementing 12 schemes and Jharkhand one.

It was discussed in the meeting that a more Ganga-centric multi-pronged strategy would be followed to prevent river pollution.

Selected stretches will be properly monitored with CCTVs to check activities on the river side and the quality of water.
