Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced recently that the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the governing body of Indian football, would establish its Centre of Excellence in Kolkata.

The Chief Minister has promised to allot 15 acres of land in Rajarhat for the purpose. The announcement was made at a gala dinner at Eco Park held the day before the final of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, in the presence of the FIFA president and his council members.

The tournament has been a huge success, and FIFA itself has acknowledged the fact, being the best-attended Under-17 World Cup ever. On top of that, with due credit to Mamata Banerjee and her active part in making the tournament a huge success in Kolkata, Kolkata has seen, by far, the highest average attendance for the matches.

As Mamata Banerjee announced through a Facebook message, out of the 13.47 lakh spectators in India who watched the matches, Kolkata had 6.08 lakh watching them at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. This is  more than 45 per cent of the total spectator count. Furthermore, the per match average spectator count in India was 25,906, while in Kolkata it was 55,345 – which is more than double.

ফুটবলে দেশের প্রথম সেন্টার অফ এক্সেলেন্সের জন্য রাজারহাটে ১৫ একর জমি দেবে রাজ্য সরকার৷ শুক্রবার ইকো পার্কে ফিফা প্রেসিডেন্ট জিয়ানি ইনফান্তিনোর সামনে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় এই ঘোষণা করার পর সর্বভারতীয় ফুটবল ফেডারেশন প্রেসিডেন্ট বলেন, প্রস্তাবিত সেন্টার অফ এক্সেলেন্স কলকাতায় হবে৷ ফিফা প্রেসিডেন্টকে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী অনুরোধ করেন, ‘অনূর্ধ্ব ২০ বিশ্বকাপ এখানে হলে রাজ্য সরকার পূর্ণ সহায়তা করবে৷’

কলকাতায় ফাইনাল করার জন্য ফিফা প্রেসিডেন্টকে ধন্যবাদ দিয়েছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী৷ গালা ডিনারে ফেডারেশনের প্রেসিডেন্ট বলেন, ‘এখানে ফিফা কাউন্সিল মিটিং করার জন্য ফিফা প্রেসিডেন্টকে ধন্যবাদ৷ রাজারহাটে সেন্টার করার জন্য মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর জমি দেওয়ার প্রতিশ্রুতিতে খুশি আমরা৷ জমি পেলে খুব তাড়াতাড়ি সেন্টারের কাজ শুরু করব৷’

ফিফা প্রেসিডেন্ট বললেন, ‘মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর কথা আমার হূদয় ছুঁয়ে গেল৷ এ ভাবে সবাই ফুটবলের জন্য কিছু করলে ভারতে ফুটবল পিছিয়ে থাকবে না৷ বিশ্বের ছয় ভাগ লোকের এক ভাগ লোকের বাস ভারতে৷ এখানে ফুটবল যদি গুরুত্ব পায়, তা হলে ভারত একদিন বিশ্ব ফুটবলে শাসন করবে৷ অন্য দেশগুলোর কাছে ভারত একটা উদাহরণ হয়ে থাকবে৷’

Congratulating her for successfully hosting the Under-17 Football World Cup, FIFA President Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino wrote to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday assuring assistance for the projects taken up for development of football. It may be mentioned that he had earlier appreciated the role of the Mamata Banerjee-government for developing an international standard infrastructure for the FIFA Under-17 Football World Cup. FIFA president reached Zurich on Friday and wrote to the Chief Minister.

The letter reads: “The FIFA delegation has now returned to Zurich with a host of unforgettable memories and having made many warm hearted new friendships during our stay in Kolkata for the final matches of the FIFA Under-17 Football World Cup in India and the FIFA Council meeting.” He further stated in the letter that: “Herewith, I would like to congratulate your government on its role in your country’s successful hosting of the FIFA Under-17 Football World Cup. I would also like to thank you on behalf of the entire FIFA delegation for affording us such a cordial welcome and warm hospitality as well as the all the moments shared together at the wonderful All India Football Federation (AIFF) gala dinner at the Eco Park and during the exciting final match between England and Spain last Sunday which I was very pleased and honoured to attain by your side at the Vivekananda Yuva Krirangan in Kolkata. The talks we had were marked by sincere friendship and mutual respect…about your vision of the important role that football plays in breaking down cultural and social barriers making the game accessible to all.”

It may be mentioned the Chief Minister had announced that the state government will be giving 15 acre land at new Town to AIFF to set up a national level football academy. In this connection, FIFA president wrote: “Herewith, I would also like to praise the remarkable work and efforts of the AIFF, who implements new plans for development of our sport in your country…and the construction of the AIFF National Centre of Excellence which will be realised on the 15 acres of land your government has kindly decided to give AIFF. I would like to thank you for this strong contribution towards supporting football development and promoting the values of our sport in your country. I can assure you that our stay in your country has given the fresh determination to provide any assistance from FIFA and the international football community that could be helpful in the realization of these development projects.”

 

 

রাজারহাটে ফুটবল উৎকর্ষ কেন্দ্র গড়তে ৭১ কোটি টাকা দিচ্ছে ফিফা, আয়োজনের প্রশংসা করে চিঠি দিল ফিফা

 

বাংলার আতিথেয়তায় মুগ্ধ ফিফা চিঠি পাঠালো মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়কে। রাজ্যে ফুটবল উৎকর্ষ কেন্দ্র গড়তে ১১ মিলিয়ন ডলার দেওয়ার কথা জানিয়েছে ফিফা। শুক্রবার মুখ্যমন্ত্রীকে চিঠির মাধ্যমে একথা জানিয়েছেন ফিফা সভাপতি জিয়ানি ইনফ্যান্টিনো। ফাইনাল সহ যে কটি ম্যাচ যুবভারতীতে হয়েছে, তার জন্যও উচ্ছ্বসিত প্রশংসা করেছেন তিনি। ফুটবলের উন্নতির জন্য যেকোনোও সাহায্যে সব সময় পাশে থাকবে ফিফা, এটাও জানিয়েছেন।

জুরিখ থেকে পাঠানো চিঠিতে তিনি মমতার প্রতি অকুণ্ঠ ধন্যবাদ জানিয়েছেন। ইকো পার্কের গালা ডিনার এবং রাজ্যের সংস্কৃতি ও মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর আন্তরিকতাকে ফিফা সভাপতি অবিস্মরণীয় বলে উল্লেখ করেছেন। রাজারহাটে উৎকর্ষ কেন্দ্র তৈরির জন্য অল ইন্ডিয়া ফুটবল ফেডারেশনকে (এ আই এফ এফ) ১ টাকার বিনিময়ে লিজে ১৫ একর জমি দিয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার। মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর উদ্যোগে এই ‘এ আই এফ এফ ন্যাশানাল ফুটবল সেন্টার ফর এক্সেলেন্স’ তৈরি হবে নিউটাউনের অ্যাকশন এরিয়া ২-তে। পরিকাঠামো তৈরির পুরো খরচ, যা হল ৭১ কোটি টাকা, দেবে ফিফা।

Football is one of the things that the people of Bengal have been identified with for many decades. Many of the best players of the country have come from Bengal. The game and its heroes are household topics in many a home.

Now things would be taken a step forward during Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s forthcoming trip to Holland. A treaty is going to be signed between Bengal Government and Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) in The Hague on June 20 to set up programmes of collaboration in football between the country and the State of Bengal.

As a part of that collaboration, players and coaches from the country, and they constitute some of the legends of the game, would be coming to the State to train its players in the latest techniques and skills. Players and coaches from here would also travel to Holland to get trained.

During the signing programme, the Chief Minister would also meet the Sports Minister of Holland.

The Chief Minister would be travelling to Holland on the invitation of the United Nations to talk on Bengal’s path-breaking achievements in the social sector.

“সব খেলার সেরা বাঙালির তুমি ফুটবল” একথা প্রায় সব বাঙালিরই জানা। বাংলা সেই স্বাধীনতার আগে থেকেই সারা দেশ দাপিয়েছে ফুটবলে। বহু মহান ফুটবল তারকা উপহার দিয়েছে দেশকে। এবার সেই বাঙালির প্রিয় খেলাকে বিশ্বের মান দিতে উদ্যোগী হলেন স্বয়ং মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

আসন্ন হল্যান্ড সফরে ২০ জুন মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর মধ্যস্থতায় এমনই একটি মৌ সাক্ষরিত হতে চলেছে হেগ-এ কেএনভিবি বা রয়্যাল ডাচ ফুটবল অ্যাসোসিয়েসনের সঙ্গে। রাষ্ট্রসঙ্ঘের আমন্ত্রণে হল্যান্ড যাচ্ছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

২৩ ও ২৪ শে জুন বিশ্ব জনপরিষেবা দিবসের কর্মসূচি। সেখানেই মুখ্যমন্ত্রীকে আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হয়েছে। কন্যাশ্রীর মতো সামাজিক প্রকল্পগুলি সামনে রেখে কিভাবে উন্নয়ন অভিমুখ বাংলায় বদলে দিয়েছেন, তাই তিনি তুলে ধরবেন বিশ্বের দরবারে।

২১ তারিখ হেগ-এ আয়োজিত হবে একটি শিল্প সম্মেলন। বাংলার শিল্পপতিদের সঙ্গে যোগ দেবেন হল্যান্ডের বণিক সভা ভিএনও।

I request the minister to take note of this serious matter. Football is a popular game in India but it is going down. Football ko bachana hoga. Yeh Federation ghar mein baith ke sirf bara bara baat bolta hai. Federation must keep the Minister in loop on their activities. Let us save football. The minister should take full responsibility. I would like to ask what the Federation is doing for the same?

In order to revive the industry of making footballs, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had taken up an initiative under the MSME Department. Headed by ex-footballers Manas Bhattacharya, Bidesh Bose and Prasanta Banerjee, the initiative has taken shape with footballs being manufactured again from a unit in Tarakeshwar.

The footballs are being made by a Government agency called Refugee handicrafts. The finished products have also passed necessary quality tests.

It is also being given a thought that these footballs be used for distribution to clubs and training camps.

With the ex-footballers handling the project, the revival of one more lost art is now evident, also providing livelihood to quite a number of people.

বাংলার  ফুটবল উত্পাদন শিল্পকে পুনরুজ্জীবিত করতে উদ্যোগ রাজ্য সরকারের

বাংলার মাঠজুড়ে যেখানে ফুটবলের সাম্রাজ্য, সেখানে বাইরের রাজ্য থেকে আর ফুটবল কিনতে হবে না এখানকার খেলোয়াড়দের। তারকেশ্বরের কারখানায় শুরু হয়েছে ফুটবল তৈরি। বাংলার ছেলেদের বাংলায় তৈরি সেই ফুটবলে উৎসাহ দিতে এবার ব্র্যান্ড অ্যাম্বাসাডর হয়েছেন মানস ভট্টাচার্য, বিদেশ বসু, প্রশান্ত বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের মতো কিংবদন্তি ফুটবলাররা।

রাজ্য ক্ষুদ্র, ছোট ও মাঝারি শিল্প দপ্তরের আওতায় একটি সংস্থা রয়েছে, যার নাম রিফিউজি হ্যান্ডিক্র্যাফ্টস। এখন কুটির শিল্পের উন্নয়নই সংস্থাটির লক্ষ্য।

মানসবাবু বলেন,  “প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ে ২০টি ফুটবল তৈরি করে তার গুণগত মান বিচারের জন্য পাঠানো হয়েছিল পাঞ্জাবের জলন্ধরে। সেখানে ১৯টি বলকে যথাযথ বলে জানানো হয়েছে। অর্থাৎ, আমরা যে কাজটি করতে চেয়েছিলাম, তাতে প্রাথমিকভাবে সফল। মোট ৬০জনকে ট্রেনিং দিয়ে কাজ শুরু করেছিলাম, আগামী তিন মাসে আরও ৪১জনকে ফুটবল তৈরির ট্রেনিং দেওয়ার কাজ শেষ হবে”।

এই মুহূর্তে রাজ্যে ফুটবলের চাহিদা আছে প্রায় ৪০ হাজার। সার্বিকভাবে যাতে ফুটবল গড়ার প্রকল্পটি সফল করা যায়, তারজন্য সব দিক থেকে সাহায্যের আশ্বাস দিয়েছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

Kanyashree Scheme is one of the best things to have happened to West Bengal. One of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s pet schemes, Kanyashree was conceived to empower girls of the State.

The scheme has won acclaim both from home and abroad, from the Government of India and from UNESCO.

One of the primary aims of Kanyashree is, through providing for educational funding, to make girls self-sufficient. And the seeds of self-reliance that the scheme has planted in the minds of girls have borne rich fruits.

Girls in the Jangalmahal region are feeling empowered. Take the girls of Kartik Oraon Notungram Sareshkanali Sammilani Adivasi High School, in Onda block in Bankura district, for example. A few years back this school in the Jangalmahal region decided that girls from the institution, most of whom are Adivasis, would be trained in archery, something for which Adivasis have a natural bent.

According to the coach, gradually, Kanyashree has inspired more and more to take up the sport in the school. Many of them have already performed commendably in various State-level competitions.

As a part of the Kanyashree Scheme, the State government has started a football competition for girls of classes 6 to 10 in Purulia. The girls are visibly happy to be able to get a chance to play, and thus prove their worth in something.

Especially in the regions of Raghunathpur, Manbazar and Baghmundi the interest in football among girls has increased exponentially. Currently 300 girls are being trained in the sport. Authorities are very hopeful of the number increasing rapidly. As the girls themselves say, seeing them, their sisters, other relatives and friends are also getting inspired and joining them.

Not just empowering girls, the State government also expects that from within these girls, players would come up who would represent the State at all levels. A girls’ football academy is soon going to be set up too by the State government in Kashipur in Purulia district.

The Kanyashree Scheme has done so much for the betterment of girls in such a short period of time. And it’s only the beginning. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s dream of empowering girls all over the State has a golden run.

 

কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে মেয়েদের স্বনির্ভর করার উদ্যোগ

পশ্চিমবঙ্গকে স্বনির্ভর করতে বাংলার মানুষের জন্য নানারকম প্রকল্প চালু করেছে মমতা বন্দোপাধ্যায়ের সরকার। এমনই একটি সফল প্রকল্পের নাম কন্যাশ্রী।

এই প্রকল্প ভারত সরকারের কাছ থেকে এবং ইউনেস্কোর কাছে যথেষ্ট প্রশংসিত হয়েছে।

তবে শুধু স্বনির্ভর করাই নয়, সবদিক থেকে মেয়েদের পারদর্শী করে তোলা কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের মূল লক্ষ্য। এজন্য এই প্রকল্পের আওতায় খেলাধুলোরও আয়োজন করেছে রাজ্য সরকার।

এবার কন্যাশ্রীদের জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক স্তরের অ্যাথলিট করারও উদ্যোগ নিচ্ছে রাজ্য সরকার।

সরকারের এই উদ্যোগকে সফল করতে এক্ষেত্রে পথ দেখাচ্ছে বাঁকুড়ার একটি স্কুল। ১৫ জন আদিবাসী কিশোরীকে নিয়ে শুরু হয়েছে পথ চলা। কন্যাশ্রীর আওতায় এই ১৫ জন কিশোরী  শিখছে তীরন্দাজি । ভবিষ্যতে হয়ত এদের বিভিন্ন জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক স্তরে দেখা যাবে।

কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের আওতায়, রাজ্য সরকার পুরুলিয়ায় ষষ্ঠ থেকে দশম শ্রেণী পর্যন্ত ছাত্রীদের জন্য ফুটবল প্রতিযোগিতা শুরু করেছে। স্বাভাবিকভাবেই খেলাধুলার সুযোগ পেয়ে খুব খুশি ছাত্রীরা।

এই প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে পুরুলিয়ার বাগমুণ্ডি, মানবাজার এলাকার ছাত্রীদের খেলাধুলোর প্রতি উৎসাহ আরও বেড়েছে। এখনও পর্যন্ত প্রায় ৩০০ জন ছাত্রী ফুটবলে প্রশিক্ষণ নিচ্ছে। ভবিষ্যতে সংখ্যাটা আরও বেড়ে যাবে।

এই কন্যাশ্রী ফুটবল প্রতিযোগিতার মধ্য দিয়ে নানা সামাজিক প্রতিবন্ধকতাকে অতিক্রম করেছে। ভবিষ্যতে মহিলা ফুটবল অ্যাকাডেমি তৈরি করার পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে রাজ্য সরকারের। খুব শীঘ্রই কাশিপুরে মহিলা ফুটবল অ্যাকাডেমির ভিত্তি প্রস্তর স্থাপন হবে।

বিভিন্ন প্রতিভা তুলে আনার জন্য ও কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের আরও ভালো প্রচারের জন্য এই উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে। রাজ্যের মেয়েদের স্বাবলম্বী করে তোলার জন্য মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী শ্রীমতী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের স্বপ্ন কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে সারা রাজ্যে বাস্তবায়িত হয়েছে।

His birthday is still be some days away but football legend Pele had the celebrations here on Monday, as Academy Award winning music composer A.R. Rahaman sang the ‘Happy birthday’ jingle, and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly clapped in reverence.

Felicitated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Pele cut the birthday cake — in the shape of the Jules Rimet trophy that Brazil permanently won by triumphing in the 1970 World Cup – during a glittering ceremony at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, with thousands of fans of all ages chanting the legend’s name.

“We are indeed very happy to have Pele with us on the eve of Durga Puja, our biggest festival,” said the Chief Minister.

“Football pulsates us, thrills us. And Pele is an incredible icon in the world of football and sports. We are very very proud of him,” she wrote on her social media pages.

Football tournaments have pushed away the dark days of guns and bullets in Jangalmahal. And taking the lead are the spirited women of Jangalmahal who have been participating in the football tournaments across the districts of Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore.

The women’s football initiative has been promoted by West Bengal Police as part of a public relations strategy. The region, which was once controlled by the Maoist rebels, gradually got rid of the grotesque web of insurgency.

The State police thought it wise to further the peace process by engaging the villagers in positive activities, and football became a major tool in this endeavour. It helped to counter the disenchantment among the locals who warmly responded to the football tournaments.

Women of Jangalmahal, especially in pockets like Bandwan, Baghmundi, Barabazar, Balarampur and Ashra of Purulia district, have been regularly participating in the football tournaments.

Over the time their enthusiasm has touched women in other districts as well — football tournaments are also being organised in West Midnapore and Bankura. The women’s football league will begin in West Midnapore. It has been organised by the district sports body.

As many as 12 women’s football teams from the district are slated to participate in the league. The state government has also organised two separate Jangalmahal Cups for women and men.

A few months back a football tournament for women was organised in Purulia’s Kashipur Assembly constituency. It was an initiative of local legislator Swapan Belthariya. Based on the overwhelming response, the state government decided to set up a women’s football academy at Kashipur.

The construction work for the academy is now underway. Funds and seven acres of land for the academy has been received. Preliminary work of land-levelling has started.

The football tournaments helped the district administration to reach out to the people living in far-flung areas of the district. It helped to build a good rapport with them. They have actually shunned the path of violence and joined the mainstream.

For years, Jangalmahal witnessed insurgency orchestrated by the Maoists. The region had recorded about 350 killings between 2010 and early-2011, but it witnessed none since 2012.

The Mamata Banerjee-led state government also announced rehabilitation packages for the rebels and announced that the entire region would come under the purview of ‘Below Poverty Level’ category so that the villagers can enjoy certain benefits like purchasing rice at a concessional rate of Rs 2.
