WB Govt to build Dolphin Park in Digha

Under the aegis of West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee, the State Urban Development Department has started work on a Dolphin Park in the popular seaside resort of Digha.

It would be located near Larica Holiday Inn on Foreshore Road. It would be built on a PPP basis. A detailed project report (DPR) is being made ready, and work would start after all necessary permissions are granted.

The grand Dolphin Park would become a major tourist draw, and make Digha that much more attractive.

নিউ দীঘার লারিকা হোটেলের কাছে পর্ষদের জায়গায় পি পি পি মডেলে এই প্রকল্পটি চালু করা হবে৷ পরিবেশ দপ্তরের ছাড়পত্রের জন্যও আবেদন করা হয়েছে৷

এই ডলফিন পার্ক দীঘার পর্যটকদের কাছে আরও আকর্ষণীয় হয়ে উঠবে।

State organises tourism summit to promote Bengal

After the mega success of Bengal Global Business Summit, it now time for another major summit. Tourism summit ‘Destination East’, being jointly organised by West Bengal Government, is going to start in Kolkata today.

As part of the drive to make West Bengal one of India’s most tourist-friendly states, representatives of well-known tour operators from 25 countries, who are participating in the summit too, would tour the state to find out ways to improve the tourism infrastructure of different places and also find out new places to promote.

The team of 35 representatives would go to Gajaldoba, Darjeeling, the Dooars, Santiniketan, Bishnupur, Digha, Murshidabad, Purulia and other places.

Tourism using the State’s waterways, especially along the Hooghly from Kolkata to Murshidabad, is also being promoted.

The State Government has allotted an initial amount of Rs 100 crore to improve the tourism infrastructure of West Bengal.

The team of representatives of the tour operators would tour the State summit till February 6.

বিশ্বের পর্যটকদের আগামী গন্তব্যই হল পশ্চিমবঙ্গ

গাজলডোবা, দার্জিলিং, ডুয়ার্স, শান্তিনিকেতন, বিষ্ণুপুর, দিঘা, মুর্শিদাবাদ ও পুরুলিয়া সহ দক্ষিণবঙ্গের বেশ কিছু জায়গায় যাবে ৩৫ জনের একটি প্রতিনিধি দল।

স্থলপথে পর্যটনের পাশাপাশি জলপথে পর্যটনকেও গুরুত্ব দিচ্ছে রাজ্য সরকার। গঙ্গাপথে মুর্শিদাবাদ থেকে কলকাতা যাওয়ার জলপথ ব্যবস্থাটিও উন্নত করার কথা ভাবা হচ্ছে।

পশ্চিমবঙ্গের প্রাথমিকভাবে পরিকাঠামো উন্নয়নের জন্য প্রায় ১০০ কোটি টাকা বরাদ্দ করেছে রাজ্য সরকার।

আগামী ৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি পর্যন্ত বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন জায়গার ট্যুরিজম বিভাগের প্রতিনিধিরা পশ্চিমবঙ্গে ঘুরে বেড়াবেন।

Affordable day-tour package for beach resorts around Digha by SBSTC

South Bengal State Transport Corporation (SBSTC) has started an affordable tour package for those wishing to visit the popular beach resorts around Digha. The bus tour costs Rs 200 per person.

The day-trip covers popular places like Mandarmani, Tajpur, Shankarpur and Udaypur in West Bengal, and Talsari, Chandaneswar and Bichitrapur in Odisha.

According to SBSTC officials, the package has proved to be very popular, and so it has plans to increase the price slightly with some value additions like drinking water and dry food.

 

স্বল্প ব্যয়ে দিঘা ভ্রমণ চালু করল রাজ্য সরকার

রাজ্য পর্যটন বিভাগ একটি বিশেষ প্যাকেজ চালু করেছেন দিঘার জনপ্রিয় বিচ রিসর্টগুলি ভ্রমনের জন্য। এই সফরে প্রত্যেকের জন্য খরচ হবে মাথাপিছু ২০০ টাকা।

এই ভ্রমণ প্যাকেজে দর্শনের জন্য থাকছে কয়েকটি উল্লেখযোগ্য স্থান। যেমন – পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মন্দারমনি, তাজপুর, শঙ্করপুর, উদয়পুর এবং ওড়িশার তালসারি, চন্দনেশ্বর এবং বিচিত্রপুর।

পর্যটন বিভাগের আধিকারিকদের মতে, এই প্যাকেজটি খুব তাড়াতাড়ি জনপ্রিয় হয়েছে মানুষদের মধ্যে। পরকিল্পনা অনুযায়ী, খরচের পরিমান কিছুটা বাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হবে এবং সঙ্গে পানীয় জল এবং কিছু শুকনো খাবার প্যাকেজে যুক্ত করা হবে।

 

Work on to make Digha more attractive tourist destination: WB CM

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that the beach town Digha and its surrounding areas would soon appear as beautiful tourist attraction with the agencies working on it to give it a shape.

WB CM, who arrived here on Monday evening, walked along the beach, visited various spots and held an administrative meeting today with the officials in the district and local civic bodies to discuss about the development of this beach town as part of the coastal area development plan.

The chief minister also launched the helicopter service from Digha to Kolkata today before returning to Kolkata by helicopter.

The new helipad at Digha would allow chopper rides from Kolkata to Digha. Alongside a chopper ride, there would also be a ropeway launched at Amarbati Park in Digha for tourists.

The ropeway will move along the Lake in Amarabati Park. The length of the ropeway has been estimated to be of 150 to 200 meters and tourists would also be able to get a larger view of Digha from the ropeway.

The Government is in touch with the coastal zone authorities to work out the modalities of the bigger ropeway project, which would move over the beach between Old and New Digha.

The state government has been working to develop the coastal areas of Digha, Shankarpur, Tajpur and Mandarmani as attractive tourist destinations.

The chief minister also directed the officials in the district and local civic bodies to ensure that the roads were maintained, beaches kept clean, beautification schemes undertaken and solid waste management programme kept in place.

The Digha-Shankarpur Development Authority (DSDA) has already taken up overall civic infrastructure development of the entire area.

WB CM mulls eco-tourism, fisheries village at Nayachar

The West Bengal government was considering several projects, including a fisheries village, eco-tourism hub and a solar plant for Nayachar, an island on the Hooghly river in East Midnapore district, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday.

On Monday, Mamata Banerjee went around Nayachar with a group of industrialists trying to figure out the island’s suitability for eco-tourism or other similar projects.

Later, addressing a rally at Nandigram in East Midnapore, the Chief Minister said her government was planning to promote an eco-tourism project on the island.

“We will see what can be done at Nayachar. We are working on several ideas like a fisheries village, an eco-tourism project and a solar plant. We will discuss and take a decision,” she said.

Banerjee, however, firmly ruled out construction of a chemical hub. “We won’t allow any chemical hub there.”

New tourist attractions at Digha

WB CM will inaugurate the new helipad at Digha which will facilitate chopper rides from Kolkata to Digha. She will also launch a ropeway for tourists at Amarabati Park in Digha.

Following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s instructions, the state government has been working to develop the coastal areas of Digha, Shankarpur, Tajpur and Mandarmani as attractive tourist destinations. The Digha-Shankarpur Development Authority (DSDA) was working at sprucing up the overall civic infrastructure of the area like setting up roads, keeping the beaches clean, revamping the drainage system and having a solid waste management programme in place. A beautification programme was also undertaken.

WB CM plans to boost eco-tourism at Nayachar

In her three-day visit to East Midnapore, starting today, West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee visited Nayachar. The West Bengal Chief Minister traveled to Nayachar taking the water route.

The West Bengal Chief Minister was accompanied by a team of industrialists. The Chief Minister and the team of the industrialists scouted the place as a possible eco-tourism destination. From Nayachar the Chief Minister headed for Tekhali in Nandigram.

She later held an administrative review meeting at Nandigram.

On Tuesday, WB CM will attend an administrative meeting in Digha and will launch the helicopter service from there to Kolkata on Wednesday. After the launch, she will return to Kolkata in a helicopter.

Bakkhali tourism project on fast track

The state government has come up with an infrastructure and tourism development project for Jambudweep and Bakkhali.

The Gangasagar Bakkhali Development Authority (GBDA), which was constituted about a year ago, has been working to spruce up the area’s infrastructure.

Benches have been set up with sheds on the roadside and the beach for tourists, while the approach road to the beach has been paved with water fountain. Streetlights have also been installed.

The GBDA is now preparing a land-use plan for the area. A new building of GBDA is also coming up in the locality. Urban development officials visited Bakkhali and Jambudweep a few days ago to review the beautification and development works.

The authorities have come up with a number of plans to develop the areas. A detailed blueprint will be prepared to adopt beach beautification programmes in Jambudwip and Bakkhali as part of the World Bank-aided Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP), which is now being undertaken at Digha.

The GBDA will also conduct a survey on how they can redevelop the bus stand and the main market of Bakkhali. A detailed project report will also be prepared for setting up a jetty at Jambudwip.

Urban development and forest officials will attend a meeting on September 16 to discuss how they can develop the proposed eco-trail at Jambudweep.

WB Govt selects 8 sites for helipads

The government has selected eight sites across the state for setting up permanent helipads. Sources said that a fresh survey would also be conducted to identify more sites.Sources in the secretariat said the permanent helipads would be set up in Digha, Tarapith, Mayapur, Howrah’s Dumurjola and at four other sites, including in north Bengal.

Officials, however, said that the soil condition would have to be ex amined at some sites.

Earlier, the state government had planned to develop 21 permanent helipads across the state, possibly one helipad at each district, to facilitate smooth movement of the chief minister or other VVIPs. The district magistrates were asked to make site selections and prepare reports on where the helipads could come up in their respective jurisdictions.

Officials said that after conducting surveys in the 21 proposed sites, eight sites have so far been selected for setting up permanent helipads.

Tourism gets special focus under Trinamool Government

The West Bengal Government under the leadership of Ms Mamata Banerjee has made developments in every sector in every districts of the State. The Chief Minister has visited each district, chaired meetings across the State with the district officials from Darjeeling to Sundarbans to take stock of ongoing projects and plan newer ones. Identifying new tourist spots and creation of infrastructure for tourists have been one of the agendas of the Chief Minister during her numerous district visits.

The Trinamool Government under Ms Mamata Banerjee had rightly identified that West Bengal with its varied natural beauty has the capability to attract tourists from national and international sphere, and thus earn huge revenue. However, after 34 years of Left misrule, the tourism infrastructure in the State was in tatters. So, firstly, it was decided to renovate the existing to a quality standard and then identify the newer options.

Increased planned expenditure In Tourism under Trinamool Government

In the four year, from 2007-08 to 2010-11, the planned expenditure in Tourism under the Left Government was on an average Rs 16.88 crore only. In the first four years of the West Bengal Government under Trinamool Congress, the planned expenditure in Tourism rose to a total of Rs 331.93 crores, which is Rs 82.95 crores on an average per year. In the years 2011-12 the the planned expenditure on tourism was Rs 30.64 crores. It was increased to Rs 52.62 in 2012-13 and in 2013-14 it further increased to Rs 81.16 crores. In 2014-15, the planned expenditure (revised) was Rs 167.50 crores.

It is observed that while the past Left Government was downsizing the planned expenditure on Tourism year after year, the present Government under Trinamool has been instrumental in increasing the same.

Completed Tourism projects under Trinamool Government

As published on the Economic review2014-15, the following tourism projects have been completed since May 2011:

• Construction and renovation of cottages in different locations at Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong

• Tourism centres in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts

• Tourism centres in Cooch Behar

• Construction of Maldah Museum

• Motijhil tourism centre in Murshidabad

• Chupchar project, Batukeshwar Dutta project and Gopinath Sabji project in Bardhaman

• Ballavpur-Sharmbati project in Birbhum

• Gadiara tourism centre in Howrah

• Furfura Sharif and Chandannagar tourism centres in Hooghly

• Kashipur Mahashram, Kolkata Maidan, Police Museum, College Street, Eden Gardens and other such projects in Kolkata

• Malancha Tourist Lodge in North 24 Parganas

• Tourism projects in Gangasagar and Basanti in South 24 Parganas

• Digha Tourist Lodge in Purba Medinipur

Newer tourism projects are coming up in Bengal

The West Bengal Government has taken up a ne Tourism Incentive Policy in 2015. Under the initiative of the West Bengal Chief Minister, Eco-tourism, Home Tourism and Tea Tourism have been included under this policy.

New projects that are coming up include the Gajaldoba Mega Tourism project, Jharkhali Eco-tourism project, Sabujdwip Eco-tourism project and Jhargram Rajbari Heritage project. Besides, facilities of home-stays are being identified at Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Mukutmanipur and other places of scenic beauty.

Bottomline

The West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee has time and again given suggestions regarding different tourism projects and providing proper facilities to the tourists. The State Government is following the suggestions and also taking part in different tourism fairs nationally and internationally in order to promote Bengal and attract tourists. From Gangasagar in the south to Darjeeling in the north, special focus is being given to tourism and this will be a major success for the State in the coming years.
