In an attempt to access the scope of digitisation in the law and order space, Kolkata Police has launched its ‘Bondhu Application’ this week. The app, a first in Bengal, aims to make filing general diaries (GD) for theft, communication with the Kolkata Police headquarters (Lalbazar) and other such functions easier and more time-efficient for both citizens and the police.
With the feature to create personal login accounts with telephone details, users will have access to sixteen features provided by the Kolkata Police. This step is being seen by many as a welcome move towards changing the way law and order procedures are seen.
The app will also act as a platform to disseminate information about traffic rules, penalties for traffic violations and overall safety measures. It will also facilitate citizens to send photographic and documental evidences to the police against crimes that have been witnessed.
Interaction and engagement through the digital space using applications and virtual platforms such as these are facilitating institutions such as the police to broaden their reach and register complaints as well as act on them effectively.
In a speedy surge towards digitisation it becomes imperative for organs of the government to be technology-ready and adept with e-mediums of communication and awareness-spreading. This is especially relevant in urban spaces like Kolkata, which placed third in the number of internet users in a 2014 survey.

কলকাতা পুলিশের নতুন অ্যাপ ‘বন্ধু’
এখন থেকে কোনরকম অভিযোগ জনাতে সাধারণ মানুষকে আর থানায় ছুটে যেতে হবে না। দীর্ঘদিনের এই সমস্যা মেটাতে এবার বাজারে এল কলকাতা পুলিশের নিজস্ব অ্যাপ ‘বন্ধু’।
ট্রাফিক সংক্রান্ত বিভিন্ন সমস্যা থেকে শুরু করে যে কোনও রকম অপরাধের অভিযোগ জানানো যাবে এই ‘বন্ধু’ অ্যাপে। বৃহস্পতিবার এই অ্যাপটির উদ্বোধন হয়।
এদিন নগরপাল রাজীব কুমার নির্দেশ দেন, প্রতিটি থানার কম্পিউটারের দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত অফিসাররা যেন এই অ্যাপটির ওপর নজর রাখেন এবং এখানে আসা অভিযোগগুলি পেয়ে যেন যথাযথ ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হয়।
