It is a fight for customers’ hearts and minds – silks from Basoa in Birbhum and baluchari from Bishnupur, muslin from Murshidabad and kantha stitch of Abadanga from Birbhum. This is the welcome scene at ‘Banglar Tant-er Haat – 2017’.

It started on August 12 at Milan Mela, and will continue for 24 days, till September 4. The fair is already drawing appreciative crowds from across the city and its suburbs.

The fair is being held at four pavilions. Three of the pavilions are selling articles of silk, cotton, tangail, kantha stitch, etc. while the fourth is dedicates to handicrafts. Not just sarees but shirts and kurtas are also being held.

Also being sold are other traditional handicrafts like dokra work from Ausgram in Bardhaman district, traditional jewellery from Shantiniketan and pata work from Pingla.

Besides individual artisans from different districts, this year the fair has also given space to NGOs involved with handloom and different handloom organisations.

For the visitors, this has become a popular shopping venue for Durga Puja. From clothes to jewellery to home décor to articles for gifting – everything is available. Some of the handicraft sellers are even making jewellery like necklaces and earrings then and there according to customers’ demands.

পুজোর বাজারে মিলনমেলার তাঁতের হাটও বাঙালির গন্তব্য

বীরভূমের বসোয়ার সিল্কের সঙ্গে বিষ্ণুপুরের বালুচরির লড়াই, আবার মুর্শিদাবাদের মসলিনের সঙ্গে বীরভূমের আবাডাঙার কাঁথাস্টিচ। এই নিয়ে ধীরে ধীরে জমে উঠছে তাঁত মেলা। মিলনমেলা প্রাঙ্গণে শুরু হয়েছে বাংলার তাঁতের হাট। নামে তাঁতের হাট হলেও, তাতে সিল্ক থেকে খাদি— সবই রয়েছে। রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন জেলা থেকে আসা হস্তশিল্পীদের নানান কাজের সম্ভার চাক্ষুষ করার সুযোগ হাতছাড়া করতে রাজি হচ্ছেন না কেউই। আর তাই আগামী ৪ সেপ্টেম্বর পর্যন্ত এই মেলা চলবে।

মিলনমেলা প্রাঙ্গণে চারটি প্যাভেলিয়ানে এই তাঁতের হাট চলছে। তার মধ্যে চার নম্বর প্যাভেলিয়ানটি শুধুমাত্র হস্তশিল্পের উপরই তৈরি হয়েছে। অন্যান্য প্যাভেলিয়ানেও সিল্ক, তাঁত, কাঁথাস্টিচ, বালুচরি, টাঙাইল প্রভৃতি শাড়ির সম্ভার রয়েছে।

শুধু শাড়ি নয়, খাদি, সিল্ক না কাঁথাস্টিচের শার্ট, পাঞ্জাবি সবই রয়েছে এখানে। রয়েছে বর্ধমানের আউশগ্রামের ডোকরা, শান্তিনিকেতনের হাতের কাজের নানা গয়না, পিংলার পটের কাজও। অর্থাৎ পুজোর বাজার করতে এসে ঘর সাজানোর সামগ্রী থেকে সাজের জিনিস— সবই মিলবে এখানে বসেই । ক্রেতাদের চাহিদামতোই হার, কানের দুল আমরা তৈরি করে দিচ্ছে শিল্পীরাই।
