Fate of the elections have been sealed today: Mamata Banerjee at Arambagh

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today addressed a public meeting at Arambagh. She said that the fate of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 have been sealed with the third phase of polling.

Highlights of her speech:

  • It is our misfortune that all elections are held in Bengal in the summer heat. We had tried to hold Panchayat polls in March but our opposition parties did not allow that
  • Lok Sabha elections are being held in seven phases, with campaign over three months. This has been done to give advantage to BJP Babus so that they can get adequate time to campaign
  • The country has never seen a situation like this before
  • A 100 bedded medical college and 500 bedded hospital is coming up in Arambagh. Two multi super speciality hospitals, health centres have been set up
  • A Green University is coming up at Tarakeshwar
  • We are formulating Arambagh Master Plan which will help in flood prevention
  • We have also taken up Lower Damodar Basin Project for a cost of about Rs 3000 crore. It includes irrigation projects, constructing embankments and flood prevention measures
  • A new road connecting north and south Bengal is also coming which will benefit people
  • Arambagh has now become a hub of development. In the past this region was neglected
  • New roads and bridges are coming up in the district for the benefit of the people
  • ITIs, polytechnic colleges, Kisan Mandis, Karma Tirthas, model schools, colleges and even four 100 MT paddy godowns have also been set up
  • We have started drinking water supply project at a cost of Rs 70 crore
  • We are setting up a monument in memory of Tapasi Malik, our young martyr in Singur
  • This election is for government formation at Centre. People will decide the Prime Minister. This is not a mandate for Bengal Government
  • Apart from loot and torture, has CPI(M) done anything for the people Arambagh?
  • We have not forgotten how political violence was the order of the day here and fear ruled the roost here
  • We have to love people, care for them. If someone errs, they must seek forgiveness
  • In 2011, our slogan was ‘change not revenge’ that is why we did not act against the CPI(M) goons. The harmads of CPI(M) have now become BJP’s ustads
  • The BJP goons are roaming the streets with arms in hand
  • The PM is running a merchandise shop – he is doing everything for self-publicity
  • Some traitors have joined them and are asking for central forces
  • I have heard that central forcers were sitting inside booth number 166, 167 in Englishbazar in Maldaha Dakshin and influencing the elections. In Itahar also they were asking voters to cast their vote in favour of BJP
  • I want to ask the forces to do their jobs instead of campaigning for any party. After Modi goes out of power, they have to work with us
  • The husband of BJP’s Maldaha Dakshin candidate is sending central forces from Delhi. And they are influencing elections here. We have already lodged a complaint with the Election Commission
  • Even the Army is being called Modi Sena. We salute the armed forces, they serve the nation. The BJP has lost their mind
  • Do not vote for BJP even if they offer money or intimidate you
  • ‘Signboard babu’ is saying Mamata Banerjee is afraid because she can’t rig polls anymore. I want to ask him, what has happened in Tripura? The polls were completely rigged there
  • How many central forces were sent to Gujarat, Bihar, UP? How many officers were changed? They are only targeting Bengal. Remember, Bengal will show them their place
  • They are targeting Bengal because I speak against them. People of Bengal will give them a fitting reply. People of Bengal cannot be intimidated
  • They are asking for an account of the work done by Mamata Banerjee. Why should I give you an account? I will give an account to the people of Bengal during Assembly elections
  • Where were you when there was flood in Arambagh? During natural disasters, we stand by the people. They only come here like seasonal birds during elections. People will send them away
  • He used to call himself a chaiwallah before 2014 polls. Now he pretends to be a chowkidar
  • He promised to bring back black money and deposit Rs 15 lakh in every account. Has he done that? No
  • He declared Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes invalid overnight. Now people will declare his government invalid. More than 12,000 farmers committed suicide under his watch
  • Earlier he used to call everyone Mitron. Now he does not use that term because everyone is his enemy now
  • They are unable to draw crowds at rallies. The TRP of Modi’s face is down. They are spending crores of rupees for organising Bengal rallies
  • The fate of the elections will be sealed today. People are saying enough is enough. Modi babu aar na. Amit Shah aar na
  • He travelled the world for four and a half years and has turned up now to seek votes
  • He is using the names of jawans to seek votes. I want to ask them not to politicise the forces
  • All the institutions have been compromised. If they come back to power, democracy will be finished. They will not allow anymore elections
  • They do not believe in Hinduism. They have one religion – riot-mongering. I want to tell them – do not bring shame to Hinduism and the name of Ram
  • We believe in the Hinduism of Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Maa Sarada and Swami Vivekananda. We do not believe the lies of BJP
  • They would orchestrate some disturbance and blame it on minorities. People must be wary of the RSS pracharaks. Keep an eye on them
  • We provide rice at Rs 2/kg. We provide free healthcare, scholarships like Kanyashree or Sikshashree. We have distributed one crore bicycles under Sabooj Sathi
  • We have waived off mutation fees and khajna tax on agricultural land
  • We pay the full premium of crop insurance for farmers. We offer compensation to farmers affected by natural disasters.
  • We have started Krishak Bandhu scheme under which farmers will get Rs 5,000 per acre annually
  • If any farmer between the ages of 18-60 years passes away, their families will get Rs 2 lakh
  • BJP Govt is a failed govt run by Dushashan and Duryodhan. Let every vote you cast be a slap on the face of the BJP
  • They have committed crimes against Dalits, Adivasis, farmers, minorities
  • We have given forest rights to tribals, which they want to take away
  • More than 2 crore people have lost their jobs in the country
  • Even your money will not be safe in the banks. Using Aadhaar they are trying to snoop on you – from bank accounts to mobile phones
  • The country is in a dire situation. Bengal will show the way for progress
  • Do not vote for the Congress and the CPI(M). They are working in tandem with the BJP

Aparupa Poddar speaks in Lok Sabha on Demands for Grants for Ministry of Railways

FULL TRANSCRIPT

Thank you Hon’ble Speaker Sir for allowing me to speak on Railway Budget. I thank my party also. For the first time after independence, India has dispensed with the separate Railway Budget. It has not gone down well with the railway fraternity. Communities, organisations and the activists said that Budget announced nothing that could shake off the lack of mood among the lakhs of passengers who use Indian Railway services daily. Rail is the lifeline of the common citizen.

With a heavy heart, I am very pained to say that I often travel in trains and railway station and tracks are very dirty with sticky smells. The cleanliness of the trains is very bad. The toilets are very dirty. Even the blankets which are given in the first class AC compartments are in not proper conditions.

In the Railway Budget it has been mentioned that stations will be provided with lifts and escalators; it is good. The reality is different. In many stations they do not work. It is mentioned that in next three years stations will be modified and upgraded. Arambagh and Tarakeshwar railway stations need to be upgraded.

Our Hon’ble Chief Minister and former Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee thought to promote tourism and set up a corridor among the temples of Bishnupur, Tarakeswar, Kamarpukur – which is the birthplace of Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa Dev – and Arambagh to Bowaichandi (31 km as mentioned in her Railway Budget in 2010-2011) to change the social-economic scenario for the people of Arambagh. I urge the government to expedite the project and allot sufficient funds.

Sir, I request the Hon’ble Rail Minister to start the work of ROB of Kamarkundu and expedite the project and the demand of the subway of Chandanpur railway station which is the need of the hour for the farmers and people residing there.

Thank you.

Aparupa Poddar demands increase in grant amount for Indira Awas Yojana

Thank you, Speaker Madam, for allowing me to speak during the Zero Hour. In India, out of 200 million families approximately 65-70 per cent do not have adequate housing facility. Indira Awas Yojana has provisions for shelter of million of rural families belonging to SC/ST, minorities and people below poverty line. But it is very sad to say that in Indira Awas Yojana only Rs 70000 is being given under the scheme.
West Bengal consists of hilly and plain areas and it is very difficult to complete the construction because the amount is very less. So I urge the Government to take urgent measures to fix the grant amount according to the regional cost of the buildings and increase the number of dwelling units. I would also urge the government to give special quota for Arambagh constituency, which is inhabited by rural people belonging to SC/ST communities. Thank you.

• 3 out of top 4 districts in India under Swachh Bharat are from Bengal. Hooghly is among them.

• Some people only advertise and talk about Swachh Bharat. Bengal leads the way through action.

Aparupa Poddar speaks on the flood situation in Arambagh | Transcript

Thank you Madam, for giving me this opportunity. Annual flood has been a regular feature of Arambagh sub-division in Hooghly district of West Bengal. When Damodar Valley Corporation was conceived it was expected that two dams will be constructed in the lower Damodar area.  But ultimately they did not come up and as a result when dams in upper region of Damodar river release water in rainy season, the entire sub-division gets flooded with the water of rivers Darakeswar, Mundeswari and Shilavati which discharge their water in Damodar. Also, overflow in the bank causes loss of crops and creates misery to the people of the entire sub-division.

A Central scheme over Damodar region is needed to save Arambagh sub-division and Uluberia sub-division of Howrah District.  I will urge upon the Ministry of Water Resource to take up the matter immediately and ensure enough dredging of Damodar while interlinking of other rivers with the channels, or by both systems in which there will be immediate protection of people.
