While answering a question on fish production in the Assembly on November 22, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the overall production in the State was 17.42 lakh metric tonnes last year.

The State Fisheries Department has also prepared a roadmap for increasing the production of fishes in the next couple of years. A committee comprising seven to eight departments has been set up for the purpose. The plan is to make Bengal self-sufficient in fish production.

Under the Jal Dharo Jal Bharo Scheme, 2.5 lakh ponds have been dug to encourage pisciculture. Further, she said, initiatives have been taken to produce big fish, which take two years to grow, in 700 ponds. Unused waterbodies are being utilised for pisciculture.

A pisciculture research centre has been set up for further development of the sector. Initiatives have also been taken for production of hilsa in the state itself, she added.

The submission of forms for getting license, and the payment of fees, for a starting an agricultural business can now be done online. This would make the whole process hassle-free as one would be able to apply from anywhere.

Another advantage, according to an official of the Agricultural Marketing Department, which issues such licenses through its market committees, is that the process, be it for issuing new licenses or renewing licenses, would become quicker and hence many more licenses can be issued. The department is targeting 20,000 licenses per year.

A pilot project for implementing this new mechanism would soon be started in the Krishak Bazaar of Bishnupur-2 block in the district of South 24 Parganas.

Among the licenses to be issues online are for more than 50 types of businesses including paddy, pulses, eggs, paddy-cutting machine, vegetables, fruits, fish, betel leaves (paan), honey, and also plywood factories, hotels and malls.

The State Government agency, Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has decided to overhaul the unique floating market in Patuli, adjacent to EM Bypass. A series of changes will be brought about to make the place more accessible. The market has 228 sellers sitting on 114 boats.

The market, the first of its kind in the country, similar to the floating market at Bangkok in Thailand, had started functioning in January this year.

For electricity supply, environment-friendly solar power will be taken recourse to. Solar panels will be installed. The number and arrangements of the lights will be increased too.

Sheds will be constructed for the benefit of the buyers during the monsoon season.

On the request of shoppers, the four zones – for fish, for chicken, mutton and eggs, for vegetables, fruits and flowers, and for grocery and miscellaneous items – will be rearranged so as to place the vegetable and fish zones side-by-side.

The wooden ramps set up on a platform made of sal wood, on which people travel over the surface of the water for shopping in the market, are being repaired with the onset of monsoon.

A toilet will be constructed in an area adjacent to the floating market.

A food court will be constructed on the premises of the floating market, where tea and a variety of snacks will be served at a reasonable price. The market, particularly in the evening, has also already turned into a popular adda zone for the local people.

The seating arrangement in and around the waterbody will also be enhanced, so that people can come and spend time there comfortably.

Two more fountains will be set up in the waterbody.

A waterbody located on the southern side of the floating market will be beautified too.

The Technical Appraisal Committee of KMDA is considering in detail all the proposals. As soon as it finishes that, the construction work will begin.

The State Fisheries Department has decided to serve a new type of fish on the plates of Bengalis this winter – grouper. The hatchlings are being procured from Visakhapatnam. They would be reared at the government hatchery in Fraserganj.
The reason for focusing on grouper is that it tastes just like an eternal favourite of Bengalis – bhetki. The government’s aim is to satisfy part of the high demand for bhetki with grouper. This would prevent unscrupulous traders from hiking up the price of bhetki to unreasonable levels – something they are wont to during winter, when the demand is high.
To initiate the project, a few lakh hatchlings would be bought by the Bengal Government this March. The Trinamool Congress Government has been putting a lot of stress in the farming of fish as well as on its exporting. Then, a lot of restaurants and ready-to-eat outlets are opening up in Kolkata and its outskirts as well as across the state, many by the State Government too, creating a huge demand for bhetki, among other types of fishes. Hence, the potential for grouper is quite high.
The whole project is being overseen by the State Fisheries Development Corporation (SFDC). According to officials of SFDC, the tastes of both the fishes are similar and hence the grouper’s price too would be at the same level as the bhetki’s. SFDC officials expect grouper to capture the hearts and minds of Bengalis soon.

আগামী শীতে ভেটকির বদলে নতুন মাছ গ্রুপার

 

আগামী শীতে বাঙালির পাতে নতুন মাছ পৌঁছে দিতে উদ্যোগী রাজ্য মৎস্য উন্নয়ন নিগম। বিশাখাপত্তনম থেকে আনা হচ্ছে নতুন মাছের চারা। এই মাছের নাম গ্রুপার। এই চারা নিয়ে যাওয়া হবে ফ্রেজারগঞ্জ হ্যাচারিতে। সেখানেই এই মাছের চাষ করবে নিগম।

এই মাছ দেখতে ভেটকি মাছের মতো। স্বাদও একই রকম। শীতের সময় যেভাবে ভেটকি মাছের চাহিদা বাড়ে, তাঁর সঙ্গে পাল্লা দিয়ে জোগান দেওয়া যায় না, এই ঘাটতি মেটাতেই এই নতুন মাছের কথা ভাবা হয়েছে।

নিগমের বক্তব্য অনুযায়ী, এই মাছের স্বাদ ভেটকি মাছের থেকেও ভালো, তাই, আশা করা যাচ্ছে বাঙালির পাতে এই মাছ সহজেই জায়গা করে নেবে। এই মাছের বৃদ্ধির হার একটু কম, তাই এক দেড় কিলোর মাছ পেতেও অন্তত শীতকাল পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করতে হবে।

ভেটকি মাছের মতোই এই মাছের দাম রাখা হবে বলে মনে করা হচ্ছে।

The popular ‘Fish On Wheels’ concept of Benfish is going to be introduced in Digha and Puri soon.

The named is used for the Benfish service wherein cooked fish is sold in vans. The service is available in Kolkata and is very popular. These tourist spots – on in Purba Medinipur district and the other in Odisha – are very popular with Bengali tourists and hence, Benfish has come up with the decision.

Benfish functions under the State Department of Fisheries. The vans to be introduced in Digha and Puri would also be of the latest model, and the ones in Kolkata would be replaced with these latest models too.

Further, Fish On Wheels would be introduced to tap the tourist market in Jangalmahal, Ayodhya Hills, Malda, Murshidabad, Siliguri, Darjeeling, the Dooars, Cooch Behar.

 

মাছের নানা মুখরোচক পদ নিয়ে এবার বেনফিশের গাড়ি চলবে দীঘা-পুরীতেও

বেনফিশের ‘ফিশ অন হুইলস’ এবার নামতে চলেছে দীঘা-পুরীতে। এতদিন কলকাতা শহরে ঘুরে ঘুরে বিভিন্ন মুখোরোচক মাছের খাবার বিক্রি করত বেনফিশের ‘ফিশ অন হুইলস’ গাড়ি। এবার সেই গাড়িই পৌঁছে যাবে সমুদ্র সৈকতের বুকে।

উল্লেখ্য, দীঘা-পুরী দুই জায়গাতেই পর্যটকদের থাকার জন্য ব্যবস্থা করেছে বেনফিশ। সারা বছর সেখানে বহু পর্যটক বুকিং করেন, ঘুরতে যান। কিন্তু এতদিন সেই এলাকায় বেনফিশের ‘ফিশ অন হুইলস’ বা গাড়িতে করে খাবার বিক্রির কোনও ব্যবস্থা ছিল না। অবশেষে সেই ব্যবস্থাও শীঘ্র ওই দুই জায়গাতে চালু করতে চাইছে বেনফিশ।

‘ফিশ অন হুইলস’-এর নতুন মডেলের গাড়ি দীঘা ও পুরীতে নামানো হচ্ছে। ইতিমধ্যে নতুন গাড়ির বরাত দেওয়া হয়ে গিয়েছে। গাড়ি এলেই ওই দুই জায়গায় খাবার বিক্রি করা শুরু হবে। ফিশ ফ্রাই, ফিশ ব্যাটার ফ্রাই, ফিশ ফিঙ্গার, ফিশ রোল, ফিস পকোড়া, ফিশ চপ, ফিশ শিক কাবাব থেকে শুরু করে বিভিন্ন বাহারি খাবার সাজিয়ে ‘ফিশ অন হুইলস’ পৌঁছে যাবে দীঘা এবং পুরীতে।

আগামী দিনে রাজ্যের আরও একাধিক জেলা, বিশেষত পর্যটন এলাকাগুলিতেও ‘ফিশ অন হুইলস’ চালু করার পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে সংস্থার। বিশেষ করে জঙ্গলমহল, অযোধ্যা পাহাড়, মালদহ-মুর্শিদাবাদ, শিলিগুড়ি, দার্জিলিং, ডুয়ার্স, কোচবিহার থেকে একেবারে দক্ষিণের সুন্দরবনেও অদূর ভবিষ্যতে ‘ফিশ অন হুইলস’ চালু করার পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে সংস্থার।

Besides setting up more stalls of Sufal Bangla in the districts, the state agriculture marketing department has taken measures to let more people in the city avail the facility with six more stalls coming up at Tollygunj, Shyambazar and Ultadanga respectively.

Tapan Dasgupta, the state Agriculture Marketing minister, said: “More Sufal Bangla stalls are coming up in the city. Some including the one in Alipore and Tollygunge has already started operations. Two more in Bankura and Bishnupur are ready to let the people in the area avail the facility.” In Kolkata, total four Sufal Bangla stalls will come up at Tollygunge and its adjoining areas. One each will be set up at Shyambazar and Ultadanga. It may be mentioned that already there is one stall at Salt Lake and another one at Alipore. The Alipore stall is the first one where the facility of home delivery has been initiated.

The state Agriculture Marketing department has also introduced the service in Sufal Bangla stall at Santiniketan. The work to make the facility available in other places soon has also started. At present, one needs to call at a phone number to place the order after going through rates of different vegetables provided in the website of Sufal Bangla. In a bid to make the process easier, the state Agriculture Marketing department has taken an initiative to launch a cell phone app using the one that can easily locate a Sufal Bangla shop and place orders for home delivery. The department is having plans to set up Sufal Bangla stalls in all districts and letters were also being written to District Magistrates seeking assistance to identify lands where such stalls can be set up.

At present there are total 33 Sufal Bangla stalls including 14 mobile ones which move around in different places to let people buy fresh vegetables at the right price. With setting up of more stalls in Kolkata, the urban populace can easily buy fresh vegetables at the right price. Moreover, the home delivery system would be immensely beneficial for the urban populace as they do not have to go to market places to buy the vegetables and at present fish, eggs and different varieties of rice are also made available in Sufal Bangla stalls.

 

আরও ৬ টি সুফল বাংলা স্টল চালু করছে রাজ্য কৃষি দপ্তর

জেলায় জেলায় সুফল বাংলা স্টল তৈরীর পাশাপাশি শহরেও আরও সুফল বাংলা স্টল চালু করবে রাজ্য কৃষি দপ্তর। এই জায়গাগুলি হল কলকাতার টালিগঞ্জ, শ্যামবাজার, উল্টোডাঙ্গা। বাঁকুড়া ও বিষ্ণুপুর জেলায় ২ টি স্টল তৈরী হয়ে গেছে, সেগুলিও শীঘ্রই চালু হবে।

এর আগে আলিপুর ও সল্টলেকে সুফল বাংলা স্টল চালু হয়ে গেছে। আলিপুর স্টলটিতে প্রথম হোম ডেলিভারির সুবিধা চালু করা হয়েছে।রাজ্য কৃষি বিপণন দপ্তর শান্তিনিকেতনেও সুফল বাংলা স্টল চালু করেছে।

সুফল বাংলার ওয়েবসাইটে দেওয়া বিভিন্ন শাক সবজির মুল্য দেখে মানুষ একটি নির্দিষ্ট ফোন নম্বরের মাধ্যমে তাদের প্রয়োজনীয় জিনিস অর্ডার করতে পারবেন। প্রক্রিয়াটি সহজ করার জন্য রাজ্য কৃষি বিপণন বিভাগ একটি মোবাইল অ্যাপ চালু করেছে। এর মাধ্যমে কোথায় কোথায় স্টল আছে এবং সেখান থেকে কততা দুরত্ব পর্যন্ত হোম ডেলিভারি পাওয়া যাবে সেই সংক্রান্ত সব তথ্য পাওয়া যাবে। বর্তমানে রাজ্যের প্রায় ৩৩ টি সুফল বাংলা স্টল রয়েছে।

এই স্টল গুলিতে শাক সবজি ছাড়াও মাছ, ডিম ও বিভিন্ন রকমের চাল পাওয়া যায়। বাজারে না গিয়ে বাড়িতে বসে মানুষ যাতে সহজেই টাটকা মাছ, ডিম শাকসবজি কিনতে পারে সেইজন্যই এই উদ্যোগ।
