Money power being used in elections: Mamata Banerjee in Mathabhanga

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today addressed a public meeting at Mathabhanga in Cooch Behar district. In her speech she said that the BJP will do away with elections if voted back to power, and Ambedkar’s Constitution will be destroyed.

Highlights of her speech:

A bridge is coming up, connecting Mekhliganj and Dinhata. I have named it “Joyee Bridge”.

Another bridge has been constructed, which I have named Bhawaiya Setu

Nearly 19-20 bridges have been built here, spreading the wave of development in Cooch Behar district.

I come here throughout the year, unlike my predecessors who neglected the region.

We gave land for the enclaves (Chhitmahals) and took the initiative to solve the problem. No other party cared before us. The Expiry Prime Minister had no role in this. It was done entirely by us.

We have allocated Rs 1,100 crore for the development of Chhitmahals. We have given them land rights

We have set up Panchanan Barma University in Cooch Behar, along with engineering & medical colleges, ITI, polytechnics, Karmatirthas, Kisan Mandis, blood banks, Mother and Child Hubs, industrial clusters for small-scale industries, among other things.

During demonetisation, we gave the needy families Rs 50,000 each to set up businesses.

Five years ago, the Expiry Prime Minister called himself a chaiwallah. Now he calls himself a chowkidar – people are saying, “Chowkidar chor hain”, I say, “Chowkidar jhootha hain”.

This is the first time so much money is being spent in elections. The PM has never helped the people. On the other hand, they have taken away the money which the common people had saved.
The youth of today, the brave young voters of today, will bring new hope

More than two crore people lost their jobs in one year.

The expiry PM is just doing big talk. He promised Rs 15 lakh per account, but he gave nothing. He fooled you into voting for him.

Now he’s taken on the garb of a chowkidar. In reality, many chowkidars all over are losing jobs, are in a desperate state.

We work for the people all the year round, not just during the elections.

The Centre has failed to create jobs. More than 12,000 farmers committed suicide.

They are killing people in the name gau-raksha.

They are threatening to send Bengalis out of the country in the name of NRC. Let them even attempt to do that.

They are stained with the blood of riots. They lack the basic courtesies of politics.

Some media houses have been intimidated into towing their party line. I appeal to the media to be fearless.

Modi is now talking about the welfare of Rajbanshis. Where were you till now?

They made false promises even to Bimal Gurung on the issue of Gorkhaland

He’s saying I don’t allow Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja in Bengal. It is absolutely false

In the upcoming elections, like Maa Durga killed Mahisashur, the mothers of the country will slay Modi democratically

They are trying to intimidate us using agencies like the IT, ED and CBI. We are not scared of them.

Now, the new drama is to insult the armed forces – Army and CRPF. They are calling them “Modi Sena”

The armed forces are impartial institutions. Modi cannot misuse them. The BJP cannot misuse them.

If they come back to power, they’ll destroy Ambedkar’s Constitution – even do away with elections.

NRC & Citizenship Amendment Bill will take away your citizenship for six years. Then they will consider anew if you can be granted citizenship. Therefore you will lose your houses, lands, passports, bank accounts, every opportunity provided by the government. Never let them do this to you

No party other other than the BJP has supported the NRC.

A delegation of Trinamool went to Assam to meet the people affected by NRC. They were assaulted.

I have promised the people of Assam affected by the NRC, that if you are thrown out of Assam, Bengal will welcome you

Modi Babu is saying what development has happened in Bengal? How will he know if he doesn’t come here ever?

Ensure that we win 42 out of 42 seats. Bengal will play a significant role in the formation of the next government at the Centre.

Let everyone from every region in the country live in peace.

Trinamool launches new campaign – #PradhanMantriHisabDo

All India Trinamool Congress today started a new video series titled ‘Pradhan Mantri Hisab Do’ in the run up to Lok Sabha elections. The campaign began with a short film comparing two schemes – Bangla Government’s Sabooj Sathi and the Central Government’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.

The comparison video shows two stark pictures: There’s Priya Singh from Rewri, Haryana and Jhumur Mukherjee from Hooghly district. The former is exasperated at the utter ineffectiveness of the much-touted Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. She says that she loves to study but the nearest school is 14-15 km from her rural home. Hence she was forced to forego her studies. She says that on the one hand, the prime minister talks about educating girls and on the other hand, there’s not even one school in her village. There’s no count as to how many girls there are suffering her fate. She ends by asking the prime minister, “Have you kept any ‘hisab’ of this?”

Contrast this with the picture in Bangla. A housewife from rural Hooghly, Jhumur Mukherjee beams with joy as she explains how the bicycle her daughter got from Bangla Government as a result of the Sabooj Sathi Scheme, conceived by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is enabling her to attend school regularly, even though it’s quite a distance away.

The scheme has had significant success in enabling especially girls to attend school – by reducing travel time and ensuring safety. It is considered a landmark scheme in the country, having won numerous awards, the latest being declared a ‘Champion Project’ after becoming a finalist earlier this year at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes, given by ITU, a United Nations organisation.

Bangla committed to labour welfare

The Bangla Government, led by Mamata Banerjee, is committed to the welfare of labourers and workers in the State. Several schemes, such as Samajik Suraksha Yojana, have been launched.

Highlights of the Labour Welfare Department’s achievements

Samajik Suraksha Yojana

  • 5 social security schemes for unorganised labour merged into one scheme – Samajik Suraksha Yojana – for effective implementation (effective from April 1, 2017)
  • As of October 2018, 1.01 crore workers covered under the Samajik Mukti Card Scheme
  • Rs 1,274.29 crore disbursed as benefit to workersSpecial benefit for female students

The Labour Welfare Department introduced a first-of-its-kind benefit in India for female students for pursuing undergraduate course or equivalent skill development course, with the granting of benefit based on the condition of the girl remaining unmarried. This serves the twin goals of enabling higher education for girls and preventing their early marriage.

Medical benefits for unorganised sector workers

  • Medical benefits enhanced from Rs 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 per year
  • Medical benefits for surgery made uniform for all workers, at the rate of Rs 60,000 per year

Yuvashree Scheme & other payments

  • Govt has disbursed financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per month per person to 1 lakh jobseekers enrolled in the Employment Bank
  • Durga Puja and Eid ex-gratia payment made by the State Govt at the rate of Rs 1,000 per person per year
  • In financial year 2018-19, from April to October, 13,271 beneficiaries received a total of Rs 18.35 crore

State Govt promoting herbal colours for a safe Dol Jatra

The State Food Processing and Horticulture Department is promoting the use and sale of herbal colours for Dol Jatra celebrations.

The herbal aabir, as the colours used in the festivities are called, are manufactured by a self-help group (SHG) and are being sold at Mayukh Bhavan in Salt Lake, which houses the Horticulture Department.

The counter will remain open till today (March 20). The price of the herbal colours has been fixed at Rs 30 per 100 grams.

The members of the SHG responsible for manufacturing the herbal colours have received training from Jadavpur University. The colours are extracted from flowers and mixed with talcum powder and arrowroot to manufacture the finished product, said the head of the SHG.

There are five varieties of aabir – green, orange, pink, yellow and violet, extracted from rose, marigold, palash, aparajita and balsam, respectively.

This is a fight between communal Modi and Bengal’s Agnikanya: Abhishek Banerjee

National President of Trinamool Youth Congress and MP Abhishek Banerjee today addressed an organisational meeting in Bankura.

Highlights of Abhishek Banerjee’s speech:

Subrata Mukherjee is a veteran politician and an able administrator

My humble pranam to the women present here today. Those who have the support of women, can never be defeated

This election is a fight between communal Modi and Bengal’s Agnikanya Mamata Banerjee. We have to fight unitedly

Block leaders should manage the blocks. Those who are district-level leaders, have to manage the district. Those in-charge of the booths must carry out their responsibility.

Those who perform well, will be rewarded and given charge of the organisation in the future.

Those who promised Achhe Din five years ago, have not spent a penny for the development of Bankura

Water supply projects worth Rs 1100 crore have started in Bankura. This was possible because of Mamata Banerjee

Roads have been developed. Multi super speciality hospitals, SNSUs have been set up

People receive uninterrupted supply of electricity in the villages

UN has recognised Kanyashree scheme as the best in the world. Utkarsh Bangla has also received international recognition

The talent that this land has, is unmatched in rest of the world

We have never seen Modi selling tea, but we have seen Mamata Banerjee lead a simple life even after becoming CM

BJP is trying to destabilise Bengal by fomenting communal tension

From hike in fuel prices or the rollback of subsidies on cooking gas, we have always hit the streets to protest

BJP thought they can intimidate Trinamool by using agencies like CBI and ED. Trinamool will never allow the pride of Bengal to be sullied

Mamata Banerjee has called for a united India. She has given a clarion call for the formation of a progressive, democratic, secular government

Bengal will show the way to India in the future

Modi is doing now, what Mamata Banerjee has already successfully implemented

Budget of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is Rs 100 crore for the entire country, while the budget of Kanyashree is Rs 5000 crore in Bengal alone

He has no funds for women’s safety, 100 days’ work and other schemes for the welfare of people. He only spends money on foreign travel, statues and PR

Those who used to carry red flags while torturing people in the past, now don the saffron robe

After the BJP lost power in three states, prices of fuel, cooking gas and GST on items decreased

People of Bankura will give a fitting reply to the BJP

BJP only engages in politics of religion. They have no developmental agenda

BJP survives on religion, riots and fake nationalism

BJP’s end is near. The arrogance and audacity of the PM will be defeated soon

Remember, you are not voting for Subrata Mukherjee or Shyamal Santra. Your vote is for Mamata Banerjee

We will not concede any space to the BJP. We will fight to save the culture of Bengal

Foundation stone of State’s first Hindi University laid

Bangla Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today laid the foundation stone of the first Hindi University in the State. The university will come up at Arupara in Howrah district.

The CM also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several other projects on the occasion. She also distributed benefits of various schemes to people from the stage.

Highlights of her speech:

Who could have thought the State Secretariat would be relocated to Howrah? We did it.

Swasthya Bhavan will be shifted to a 3 acre plot behind Nabanna soon. The work for DPR has begun.

Who could have thought, a helipad would come at Dumurjola? We have already set up 30 new helipads across the State.

New airports have come up at Malda, Balurghat, Andal and Cooch Behar. One more is coming up at Purulia.

Whenever someone from outside visits Kolkata, they say the city has progressed. This is poriborton. But a few jealous people refuse to acknowledge the change that has happened in the State.

Bangla’s Kanyashree scheme won the first prize from UN. Bangla is No. 1 in the world.

There is 50% reservation for women in local bodies. Women get maternity leave for 731 days.

We have done away with income ceiling for Kanyashree scheme. Everyone is eligible for the scholarship now.

We have distributed Sabooj Sathi cycles. 72 lakh SC/ST students have received Sikshashree scholarships. 2.12 crore minority students have also received scholarships, the highest in India.

58 lakh OBC students are now pursuing higher education. We have started Swami Vivekananda Merit scholarships for general caste students.

Before we came to power in 2011, there were only 12 universities in Bangla. We have set up 28 new universities in the last seven and half years. We laid the foundation for one more today. 10 more universities are in the pipeline.

We have done away with khajna tax and mutation fees on agricultural land.

We have waived off mutation fees on inherited land. You need not to go gazetted officers for attestations anymore. Our government has started self-attestations.

State Govt pays the full premium for crop insurance. The State Govt is funding the scheme entirely, not the Centre.

72 lakh farmer families will benefit from the Krishak Bandhu scheme.

We give financial assistance of Rs 5000 to pregnant women. We send ‘Matri Jaan’ to ferry mothers to hospitals.

Not only Bangla, people from Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha also come to our State for free healthcare.

We have brought 7.5 crore people under Swasthya Sathi scheme. We are not a part of Ayushmaan Bharat scheme. It is hogwash.

We have issued the Swasthya Sathi cards in the name of women, recognising them as the head of the family. Even her parents will be eligible for insurance with that card.

Today we have laid the foundation stone for drinking water supply projects worth Rs 1488 crore. Another project worth Rs 1100 crore will be initiated tomorrow at Bankura.

Earlier people used to complain about load shedding. Those days are now history.

Narendra Modi goes for even inaugurating toilets. Why does he seek so much publicity? He only believes in publicity, no action.

When demonetisation was announced, I was the first to call it a disaster. More than 2 crore people have lost their jobs since then.

More than 12,000 farmers have committed suicide in the country. Charity begins at home. Bengal is No. 1 in generating employment under MGNREGA.

We are No. 1 in skill development training through Utkarsh Bangla.

Our Utkarsh Bangla scheme has been ranked among the top 5 among 1,062 schemes from across the world.

Sabooj Sathi has been ranked among the top 5 among 1142 schemes from across the world.

We have reduced unemployment by 40%. It is on record in Parliament.

Modi babu knows only how to manipulate data.

Five years are gone. This government’s expiry date is over. Will taking expired medicines treat the ailment?

Elections are around the corner. Hence, they are brandishing arms and weapons. They are indulging in opportunistic politics over the blood of the jawans.

We are with the armed forces. We are with the martyrs. We are in favour of peace, not riots. We stand by the people of this country. We are against Modi. We are against BJP.

If you speak against them, you are branded as Pakistanis. We are all Pakistani, and they are the only nationalists?

They are searching about religion on Google everyday. My religion is humanity.

Abraham Lincoln had said “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time”

They are creating divisions within the society. They are pitting people against each other. Everyone is terrorised.

Have you ever seen people so scared of the Prime Minister, as if he is Gabbar Singh?

We are announcing a new scheme ‘Yuvashree Arpan’ under which 50,000 youths will receive financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh for setting up a enterprise

We have given due recognition to all languages – Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, Gurmukhi, Santhali, Ol Chiki, Kamtapuri, Rajbongshi, Kurukh, Kurmali

Dumurjola is being developed as a Khel City.

Bangla Govt to develop ‘theme cities’ under PPP model

Bangla is set to develop six ‘theme cities’, covering approximately 50 acres of land in total, on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Bids from private investors are being seeked.

This was announced by the chairman of the development agency, Hidco (who is also the additional principal secretary to the Information Technology and Electronics Department) at a seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Kolkata.

It may be mentioned that New Town near Kolkata, under the stewardship of Hidco, has been developed as the first smart city of the State, and is considered a model worth emulating in the country.

In addition to this, he also said that the construction of the hardware parks in Naihati, Falta and Sonarpur are going on in full swing, and on completion, these would add a new dimension to the IT infrastructure of the State.

72 lakh farmer families to get cheques under Krishak Bandhu Scheme

The State Government has aimed for a target of 72 lakh farmer families for paying the grants under the Krishak Bandhu Scheme, announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on December 31.

The handing over of the cheques had begun on January 30 at a programme in Rampurhat in Birbhum district, which the Agriculture Minister presided over.

For now, the Agriculture Department has listed the names of 15 lakh farmers as beneficiaries, with the rest of the names to be finalised soon. The Finance Department has allotted Rs 4,500 crore to the Agriculture Department for the purpose in the first week of February.

The grant for each farmer amounts to Rs 5,000 for an acre of land, to be paid through cheques. The amount would be handed over in two instalments of Rs 2,500 each.

Those owning less than an acre would received a proportional amount. However, in the first phase, each farmer would get a minimum amount of Rs 2,000. The first instalment would be given now and the next, six months later.

The beneficiaries are being selected only after showing proper documents for the plots in question. For those who do not have the documents, special camps have been opened in every panchayat office for making them. Officers of the Land and Land Reforms Department are also present in these camps.

Valid documents include property deeds for owned plots and lease deeds for leased plots. Sharecroppers or bargadars and owners of pattas are also eligible to receive payment under Krishak Bangla Scheme, the relevant ownership documents for them being record of rights (ROR) document and patta record, respectively.
