Comprehensive plan for improving healthcare for mothers & infants in Bangla

The Bangla Government has taken up a comprehensive scheme for the upgrading of maternal, newborn and paediatric services at 68 tertiary and secondary healthcare facilities across the State with an aim to provide better treatment to expectant mothers and infants.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has laid great stress on infrastructure-building at various healthcare facilities run by the State Health Department in the districts.

Infrastructural upgrades

The 68 tertiary and secondary healthcare units that have been selected for infrastructural upgrade are all ones that conduct more than 3,000 deliveries in a year.

The plan includes upgrading of labour rooms, operation theatres, toilets, and power backup and drinking water facilities.

Mother and Child Hubs

The Health Department has also initiated the process to setting up 14 Mother and Child Hubs (MCH) at different facilities across the State for ensuring qualitative and quantitative improvement in maternal and child services at various hospitals. Out of the 14, nine are operational.

The remaining five are coming up at Chittaranjan Seva Sadan, Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, Silampur Block Primary Health Care, Sujapur Primary Healthcare Centre in Malda district and Anupnagar Rural Hospital in Murshidabad in the current financial year.

Waiting Huts

Twelve Waiting Huts for pregnant women have been set up to facilitate safe delivery of infants in remote areas. All of them are currently functioning. The Health Department has a plan to set up five more Waiting Huts.

Waiting Huts have turned out to be extremely essential for the people, who had to travel long distances to reach hospitals.

Significantly, the Committee on the Empowerment of Women, a parliamentary committee for studying women’s issues, in a report titled ‘Women’s Healthcare: Policy Options’, tabled in Parliament on January 3, 2018, had proposed the creation of Pre-Delivery Hubs across the country, on the lines of Waiting Huts.

IMR and MMR going down, institutional delivery going up

Both the infant mortality rate (IMR) and maternal mortality rates (MMR) in the districts have gone down considerably in the past seven-and-half-years due relentless efforts taken by the State Government. This new set of projects will bring down the rates further.

It may be mentioned here that the maternal mortality rate in the State has reduced from 113 per 1 lakh mothers in 2011 to 101 in 2018 which is much below the national average of 130.

Infant mortality rate has reduced to 25 per 1,000 live births, which is also much lower than the national average of 34.

What is also significant is that the state government has increased institutional delivery from 65 per cent in 2010 to 97.5 per cent in 2018-19.

Budgetary allocation gone up

The Bangla Government has increased the budgetary allocation for Health Department from Rs 8,773.52 crore in 2018-19 to Rs 9,556.69 crore in 2019-20.

Political vendetta and agencies should not destroy the future of the country: Mamata Banerjee

Following the incident relating to the death of V G Siddhartha, founder of the Cafe Coffee Day chain, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a post on social media, termed the incident as sad and unfortunate.

Below is the text of her full post:

“I am deeply shocked by the incident relating to V G Siddhartha, Cafe Coffee Day founder. It is indeed very sad and very unfortunate.

From what he has expressed, it appears that he was greatly depressed due to harassment and pressure from different agencies for which he could not run his business in a peaceful manner. This he could not resist.

I hear from different sources that captains of industry in the country are under pressure; some of them have left the country and some are contemplating to move out.

All the opposition political parties are afraid of horse trading and harassment with political vendetta.

On one hand, the economic growth of the country has nosedived to as low as 5.8% in the fourth quarter of 2018/19, the lowest in the last 5 years, and unemployment has increased to the highest level in the last 45 years.

On the other hand, central government is actively pursuing disinvestment of government assets, from Ordnance Factory Board to BSNL, from Air India to Railways, from Chittaranjan Locomotive Works to Alloy Steel Plant, Durgapur and about 45 more public sector undertakings.

The overall economy is in bad shape with the common people suffering the most.

Industry and agriculture and creation of employment is the future of our country. If industry is demoralised, then there will be no economic and employment growth. As a result, more and more people will become jobless.

My appeal to the government is that when you have been elected, you have to work in a peaceful manner so that people are confident and that political vendetta and agencies do not destroy the future of the country.

I express my deep condolence to the family members of Siddhartha. I feel really sad to hear the news.

I thought of sharing my feelings and thoughts with all of you.”

I am deeply shocked by the incident relating to V G Siddhartha, Cafe Coffee Day founder. It is indeed very sad and very…

Computer education from class I in all schools in Bangla

Highlighting the integral nature of knowledge of computer usage to education, the Bangla Government has decided to start compulsory computer education classes from the first standard in all government and government-sponsored schools. The classes will be held at least till the secondary level.

To implement this decision, computer would be bought for over 65,000 schools. A maximum of four computers would be bought for a school having 50 students, and a proportionate number for those having more. An adequate number of teachers would also be recruited.

The syllabus committee of the State Government has already started work on the matter.

Computers would help make the lessons qualitatively much more interesting to students, according to the chairman of the syllabus committee. Besides the science subjects and geography, efforts are on to make literature too teachable using computers.

He promised ‘Achhey Din’, instead Modi has destroyed the country: Abhishek Banerjee at Kaliganj

All India Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee today addressed a public meeting at Kaliganj in the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha Constituency in Nadia district.

Highlights of his speech:

I welcome all present here today to this rally and showed their support for Trinamool Congress.

If woman power is behind you, no other power can harm you.

There is a huge difference between the elections that were held in 2009 and 2014, and the election being held in 2019.

Our fight is against a power that has been using government agencies like the CBI and ED to spread fear among people. Mamata Banerjee is the only leader who could not be subdued by such threats.

Mamata Banerjee has given the clarion call to drive out the BJP of Bangla.

Bangla is the land of renaissance. Bangla showed the way during the freedom struggle.

Bengal has been the force behind mass movements such as that of Ekushey July, Netai, Singur, Nandigram, Bantala, Dhantala and Keshpur.

Bangla has never tolerated divisive politics.

Bangla is the land of Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, Matangini Hazra and Ram Mohan Roy. The people of today need to follow that glorious tradition.

Our fight is not only for Ranaghat or the district of Nadia, but for winning all the 42 seats in the State.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose once said, “Give me blood and I will give you freedom,” and Mamata Banerjee has now given the call to win all 42 out of 42 seats to ensure for you a progressive, peaceful, secular and developed India.

We have done a lot of developmental work.

If there is comparison made between Modi and Didi in terms of developmental work, the former will lose badly.

‘Achhey Din’ never came. GST and demonetisation destroyed the country. GDP has dropped by 2%.

The country has become financially bankrupt.

The prime minister of the country is asking for votes in the name of the army, in the name of religion.

They have taken away the savings of the poor during demonetisation. And on top of that, they have built a seven-star party head office in Delhi.

Should the youth vote for such a BJP?

In the name of ‘Acchey Din’, the prices of cooking gas, petrol, diesel and kerosene have been increased.

The prime minister used to call himself a tea-seller, now he calls himself a chowkidar. But nobody has seen him selling tea at any time. Our chief minister, on the other hand, is still her humble self – still living in a small, tile-roofed house, from where she governs the 10 crore people of the State, ensuring the wave of development reaches every one of them.

The BJP talks about ‘imam bhata’ (stipend for imams) and ‘moazeem bhata’ (stipend for moazzems) being given out of the money you pay as tax. But that’s a falsehood being spread by them.

That money is taken out of fund of the Waqf Board, as ordered by the Supreme Court of India, and the money you pay as tax, all of it is spent on the various developmental schemes that the Trinamool Government has undertaken.

Mamata Banerjee had decided to give Rs 10,000 as a grant to Durga Puja committees across the State. And what did we see? The BJP, CPI(M) and Congress ganged up the next day and filed a case against us, calling the move Muslim appeasement.

We have respect for all religions. The only religion we follow is humanism. Our job is to ensure that all people get the benefits of government schemes.

The candidates of the other parties are making a lot of promises too. But all of them will be vanquished in the coming days and will never be seen again. .

We have all seen the seasonal insects (‘shyama poka’) that come to our homes during the Diwali period, which fly away after a few days. The same is the case with the BJP leaders who are now promising you so many things.

But Trinamool Congress has always stood beside the people – on all occasions, for every reason, at all times.

‘Acchey Din’’ has come only for the son of Amit Shah, whose company’s income increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 80 crore in one year. People are disgusted because they have lost all their money.

How much black money has been recovered through demonetisation? Nothing.

After the election, the BJP must be driven out – all of us here must take this oath today.

People like Vijay Mallya and Mehul Choksi have fled the country after stealing huge amounts of money from the people in spite of the Chowkidar being present.

Modi is talking about ‘Make in India’ when the car he is using is made in Germany,

The government has funds for a Rs 3,000-crore statue and the bullet train project but not for social schemes.

Should you vote for the people who have terrorised the people of Nadia? The BJP is creating communal tensions between Hindus and the Muslims.

Some people are saying, Hindus are in danger while some are saying, Muslims are in danger. But if one sees things after removing the spectacles of distortion, one will realise that the whole nation is in danger.

The BJP came to power in 2014 with Swami Vivekananda supposedly in their hearts and minds but has not had the intention of giving recognition to Belur Math.

Our current prime minister has taken the country 200 years back.

Therefore vote for Mahua Moitra and through that, ensure that Mamata Banerjee become stronger. Mamata Banerjee is the only solution to all the ills that have befallen the country.

Throw out divisiveness, bring in unity: Mamata Banerjee at Jangipur

At the second meeting in Murshidabad today, Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee spoke to a huge gathering at Jangipur. She stressed that there can be no division in voting on religious lines, like the BJP was doing. “We are human beings first,” she said.

HIghlights of her speech:

  • I have come to Jangipur many times before on several occasions, from Azimganj to Beldanga. I know these places very well.
  • Murshidabad is a historic region. British rule in Bengal started from here. History will continue to be created here.
  • You know why we walked out of the Congress. A section of the party was hand in gloves with the CPI(M). It has been proven now. Has it been proven or not? Why we walked out of the Congress? Had Trinamool not been formed, CPI(M) could not have been defeated in Bengal. Congress would not have been able to. Remember this.
  • CPM, Congress, BJP are all bhai bhai – jagai, madai, gadai. It is not a new situation.
RSS is supporting BJP and even Congress in Baharampore. But what sort of Hinduism are they following? They are imposing more of it than being broad-minded and secular.
  • There are many faiths. I am born Hindu but I am first a human being, then I follow all other religions. I chant Hindu mantras every day and Muslim rituals as well. People should also follow this. There can be no division in voting on religious lines. Our basic thought is “Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Issai; hum sabh rahenge bhai bhai”.
  • Money being spent by the parties. The RSS is carrying cash and distributing to people. If you see anything like this, then immediately inform the police.
  • We have done many things for Murshidabad. We have built colleges, ITIs, hospitals – all work we will do and the babus will go to Delhi and claim that they have done it.
  • These babus and leaders come only during election, then go away and forget about the people here.
  • We will win 42 out of 42 and continue with development of Bangla.
  • In name of NRC, so many Hindus and Muslims are being chased out. Over 22 lakh names have been deleted.
  • All these are connivances to break the nation, break Bengal. But Trinamool will not allow this. How can you prevent this? By voting against them. That is the only way you can teach them a lesson.
  • UP and Bengal will decide the new government. BJP will not be coming to power. All the states one after the other will show that BJP is not the party that can show the way for the country’s progress.
  • Hence, we have to change. BJP govt has to change and be removed.
  • Please remember to vote for the Trinamool candidates and jora phool.

Bangla will show the way to ‘poriborton’ in Delhi too: Abhishek Banerjee in Bongaon

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee addressed a public meeting today at the Gopalnagar Haripada Institution in Bongaon.

Highlights from his speech:

I begin by congratulating all the leaders who have come here, and the people, for coming here by the thousands, in spite of the heat. Since you have come here in this weather, it can be safely assumed that you have already decided in your minds to uproot the BJP from Bangla, and make Trinamool Congress win.

Mamatabala Thakur is standing from here once again, and I request everyone to help in re-electing her to the Lok Sabha.

Today is Annapurna Puja, and my best wishes are with everyone.

The voting here is on May 6. We can campaign till May 4. Therefore our campaign will continue for the next 20 days. We have to ensure the BJP does not get even a toehold here.

Remember that the fight this time is neither against the CPI(M) nor the Congress; it is between Agnikanya Didi and the communal Modi.

Decide whether you are with Mamata Banerjee or the communal BJP – your votes will determine this.

In the 2016 by-election, the BJP candidate lost, and after that he was never seen doing any work for the people here. But Trinamool is here for all seasons, working tirelessly for the people.

Therefore, vote for ‘Jorahool’ again and help us serve you better.

We help you in every way possible – be it for helping solve any major family problem or calling the fire brigade or ensuring you get your due widow pension or retirement pension or Kanyashree or Yuvashree stipend or Rupashree grant or anything else.

We are with people of all religions – we believes in unity in diversity. Trinamool does not believe in the politics of religion. We are with the people during all their religious celebrations.

The prime minister had come to Thakurnagar a few weeks back, but such was his so-called devotion for the people that he made ‘Harichand Thakur’ into ‘Harishchandra Thakur’ and ‘Matua Samaj’ into ‘Mathua Samaj’.

Mamata Banerjee has done so much for the Matuas – as railway minister, she ensured a railway station at Thakurnagar, and later had a road built till Thakurbari. Recently, she laid the foundation stone of Harichand Guruchand University. We have formed the Namashudra Development Board for the development of the community. We have built in this region superspeciality hospitals, engineering colleges, ITIs, polytechnic colleges, etc.

Our government has bestowed its highest award, the Banga Bibhushan, on Boro Maa. The prime minister met Boro Maa too, but didn’t announce a single award for her.

If we form the government in Delhi, under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, the nation’s highest award will be given to her.

The Central Government has been peddling lies for the last five years.

Trinamool Congress has carried bouquets of development to every corner of the State.

Real Hinduism does not teach divisiveness – rather, it teaches us to have confidence in its basic goodness while at the same time, have respect for the beliefs of other people in their own religions.

We believe in the Hinduism taught to us by Swami Vivekananda, not by Yogi Adityanath.

The BJP has tried to insult Bangla again and again. Not a single paisa has been spent for the development of the State. Mamata Banerjee, on the other hand, despite having to repay the debt accumulated through the loans taken by the CPI(M) government, has spent so much for the State, without imposing a single extra rupee as tax.

The prime minister had promised you all ‘Achhe Din’. I will give you examples of ‘Achhe Din’: price of cooking gas going up from Rs 400 per cylinder to Rs 750, kerosene from Rs 15 per litre to Rs 32, from a 3 per cent tax to 28 per cent GST.

The BJP has realised that misleading people from behind the façade of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chants is no longer working.

Bangla is the land of revolts, of protests, of the biggest leaders of the Independence Movement, of the July 21 protest, of Netai, of Nandigram, of Dhantala-Bantala.

Nobody could repress us to submission, and nobody will be able to now.

They are envious of even the name, ‘Bangla’, and that is why for the last two years, they have refused to pass the order for changing the name of the State.

Despite the State Government providing 40 per cent of the funds, the Centre wanted the name of the scheme to be ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana’. We could have asked form ‘Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana’. But we asked only for what was just, that the scheme be named ‘Bangla Gram Sadak Yojana’. They refused. So we unilaterally changed the name and are therefore providing the full funding too.

They are getting scared of our State, Bangla; therefore, throw them out democratically, with the help of your votes.

I had earlier mentioned about the prices going up. The prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas, and GST rates, had gone up large amounts. But over the last few months, as the BJP lost elections in five States, the prices came down.

It is for you to decide – whether to vote for a party that wants to divide Bengal or for one that will work three times more for the State.

On May 23 the results will be declared, and a new government will be formed in the following few days.

Now, whether you want the price of cooking gas to go up to Rs 2,000 in one go or petrol to Rs 100 or kerosene to Rs 70 – you have the power to decide that through your votes.

To the youth here I say: Modi had said a few days back to vote with the jawans in mind. He is such a shameless prime minister to say this, use jawans for electoral politics, in fact, such a shameless prime minister has never been known till now.

And do you know who is the candidate standing against Modi in Varanasi? None other than a BSF jawan himself, one who had released a video several months back that had gone vial, that had shown the pathetic quality of food the jawans have to eat every day. And he was sacked from his job as a result of the video. This is the kind of welfare Modi has in mind for jawans.

A few days back, the prime minister of Pakistan had said that he wants Modi to be re-elected as prime minister. And Pakistan is supposed to be our enemy. Therefore our enemy wants Modi as the prime minister. Not just him, but the ISI, Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Vijay Mallya, dacoits, rioters and smugglers – all want Modi as the prime minister.

He is a prime minister who has told us lie after lie. Have any of you got the Rs 15 lakh in your accounts as he promised? Don’t work, he’s going to lose power after May 23.

We believe in democracy. If we faithfully follow the directions of our leader, Mamata Banerjee, it will be enough to ensure our victory.

The BJP has not sent greetings even once to the people of the State on the occasion of Durga Puja, the biggest festival in the lives of Bengalis. Even on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, the BJP did not send any condolences.

The BJP is only interested in fomenting trouble and creating unrest by chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ everywhere.

Our leader has given the call for winning all 42 out of 42 seats, and we’ll win them.

He has hurt you again and again, by increasing the prices of fuels, by imposing high GST rates; now we will answer him in kind by hurting him badly, when we throw him out of power in Delhi.

Therefore, remember to vote for Mamatabala Thakur because remember that by voting for her, you are actually voting for Mamata Banerjee and helping her go one more step towards forming the government at the Centre – a secular and progressive government.

I ask all the first-time voters to think carefully before you cast your votes – whether to vote for development or destruction, for peace or violence, for preserving the respect of Bangla or for helping form a government in Delhi that will force its decisions down our throats.

I appeal to all of you to cast your votes without fear; go out early in the morning and cast your votes. Vote for Mamatabala Thakur.

In the coming days, a government is going to be formed in Delhi that will ensure development in Bangla three times more than what has been happening till now.

Netaji had once said – give me blood and I will give you freedom; now Mamata Banerjee has given the call to Bangla – give me 42 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats, and I’ll give you a progressive and secular government at the Centre.

2019 – BJP finish; BJP hatao, desh bachao

Bangla has shown the way to ‘poriborton’ and now ‘poriborton’ will come in Delhi too.

BJP MP ran away after winning 2014 election: Mamata Banerjee in Darjeeling

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today addressed a public meeting at Darjeeling. She said that the BJP MP ran away after winning in 2014 elections.

Highlights of her speech:

My salute to the Gorkha contingent. They are the pride of the country. They have sacrificed their lives for the country.

It is my humble request to you to cast your vote in favour of GJM-supported Trinamool candidate Amar Singh Rai

I do not come to the Hills only during elections, and run away thereafter. I come here regularly.

In the last seven years, I have come to the Hills more than 100 times

Bimal Gurung supported BJP in the elections. After winning, did SS Ahluwalia come to the Hills?

We had requested the Centre to set up a university in the Hills. They did not. So, we set up the Hill University here

They incite violence and tension in the Hills for political reasons. They don’t want the Hills to prosper

Amar Singh Rai was the MLA of Darjeeling. He is a bhumiputra of the Hills.

We have not brought any candidate from Delhi. They gave a ticket to Ahluwalia, who ran after eating halua.

Their candidate is from Manipur. He will campaign, distribute money and disappear

We set up a committee for industries in Darjeeling. Amar Singh Rai was the Chairman of the committee

We need three-pronged planning for the development of Hills – short-term, mid-term and long-term

Trinamool will play a significant role in the formation of the next government at Centre

Your MP also became a minister at Centre. Did the Hills benefit at all? What did he do for you?

He knew he’d lose from Darjeeling, so he ran away to Bardhaman

Has the BJP President ever visited the Hills by road? Does he know about the local places? He comes via helicopter, gives a speech and goes away

What has the BJP done for the country for five years

We made Kalimpong a new district. An education hub is coming up at Kurseong.

More than 2 crore people lost their jobs in 2017-18. 12,000 farmers committed suicide.

Demonetisation and GST destroyed the economy. Traders and businessmen suffered

They promised to bring back black money from abroad, and deposit Rs 15 lakh in every bank account. Did they do it?

Five years ago he was a chaiwallah. Now he has become chaiwallah. They have not kept their promises

Chowkidar chor hain, jhoota hain, lootera hain.

40 jawans died in Pulwama. He is asking for votes in the names of jawans. The Centre had information from intelligence. It is their responsibility because they did not take any action.

Terrorism has increased by 260% under Modi’s rule. Unemployment is at 45-year high.

In the name of NRC, they want to drive everyone away. Who are they to decide who will stay and who won’t?

Names of 40 lakh people were excluded in the NRC list in Assam. They excluded the names of Gorkhas, Bengalis, Hindus, Muslims, Biharis… everyone.

They brought the Citizenship Amendment Bill. We opposed the Bill in Parliament, because of which it could not be passed

Under this Bill, you will lose your citizenship for five years. If you become a foreigner for five years, what will be your future? It is not certain whether you will get citizenship again.

The country is under threat. Rights and freedom of the people are under threat

Those who raise the voice against the Centre, they send the agencies to intimidate them

Modi made a film on himself; he thinks he is great. A TV channel has been started in his name. They are only doing publicity

In 2014 itself we asked the Centre to include several communities in the Scheduled Tribe list. They did not do it. Now, they are asking votes on this issue

Many tea garden workers suffered during the strike. Many workers do not get salaries on time. Right now, we cannot announce any decision because of the model code of conduct but we will take a humanitarian decision after elections.

We have formed a review committee to look into the matter of giving pattas to long-time residents of tea gardens

We want the identity of Gorkha brothers and sisters to be safeguarded. We want a solution to the issue of Hills

We want bond of friendship and love between Hills and plains.

Every vote for CPI(M)-Congress, is a vote wasted: Mamata Banerjee at Chopra

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today addressed a public meeting at Chopra in Uttar Dianajpur district. She said that despite winning from this seat in the past, BJP, Congress and CPI(M) have done nothing for the people. She also said that every vote for CPI(M)-Congress, is a vote wasted.

Highlights of her speech:

  • In the past, BJP, Congress and CPI(M) have won from Darjeeling seats. They have done nothing for the people
  • This time the election is for the ouster of BJP from power. You have to ensure that Modi babu does not become the PM again
  • Last time, BJP candidate won from Darjeeling. He did a vanishing act after that
  • A vote for the Congress and the CPI(M) is a vote waste as it will benefit the BJP
  • Amar Singh Rai is a bhumiputra of the Hills. He was an MLA. He is a go-getter. He is a local person, not someone imposed by Delhi
  • We do not Darjeeling to burn. We do not want violence in Siliguri. Hills and plains will work together
  • BJP comes to Bengal only during elections and disappears after that
  • CPI(M), Congress and BJP have become one, like Jagai-Madhai-Godai
  • Trinamool will lead the formation of the next government at Centre. Trinamool will lead the change at Centre.
  • Five years ago Modi babu was chaiwallah. Now he has become chowkidar. After elections he will have to hide under hangars
  • He has spent four and half years travelling around the world.
  • They carried out lynchings in the name of gau-raksha. They persecuted minorities
  • Chowkidar is a thief, liar, riot-monger. Do not vote for him.
  • All the institutions have lost their credibility. They intimidate the media
  • They bring people from outside during election, distribute money to win votes. Ensure that they do not win
  • They promised they will create 10 crore jobs in 5 years. But 2 crore jobs lost in just one year
  • Demonetisation destroyed the economy. Tribals and Dalits have been persecuted in the last five years
  • They want to drive away everyone in the name of NRC. They will not be able to touch even one person in Bengal
  • They had prior information about Pulwama attack. Why did they not take action action? We lost our brave jawans in the attack; we are really sad about that
  • Replacing officers will not bear any fruit. Officers do not vote, people do.
  • They want to bring the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which will declare you a foreigner for six years. We will not allow the Bill to pass
  • We have to protect the unity and harmony of the country. I will sacrifice my life but never allow the country to be divided

Seasonal birds of BJP visit Bengal during elections only: Mamata Banerjee in Jalpaiguri

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee today attended a public meeting at Churabhandar in Jalpaiguri district. In her speech, she said that the seasonal birds of BJP visit Bengal during elections only, while Trinamool works for the people throughout the year.

Highlights of her speech:

  • North Bengal was neglected for years on end. The region lagged behind in development
  • We set up the a mini-secretariat – Uttarkanya – in Jalpaiguri district
  • We set up the Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court in Jalpaiguri. The PM only made false claims – our government allocated funds and land for setting it up
  • We set up world-class Biswa Bangla Krirangan in Jalpaiguri. We started Bhorer Aalo tourism project in Gajoldoba
  • We have started a new road project connecting north Bengal with Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh
  • One closed tea garden has reopened today. We congratulate the workers
  • Before 2016 polls, Modi babu and his ministers said they will take over closed tea gardens. They did not keep their promise
  • They are seasonal birds who can be seen only during elections. We are working for the people 365 days a year
  • I regularly come to north Bengal. I am working hard for the progress of this region
  • They are creating divisions between Hills and Terai-Dooars. The BJP candidate was responsible for violence and tension between Hills and Terai-Dooars
  • The BJP is stoking the fire of violence in Hills and we are dousing it
  • Where was the BJP when the Hills were burning? Now when peace reigns in Bengal, they are coming here with a bouquet of lies, out of envy
