After its immense success in New Town and Rajarhat, bike taxis are soon going to hit the streets of Kolkata. A notification in this regard will be issued shortly by the State Transport Department.

It may be recalled that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Transport Department and the private company that will operate the bike taxis during the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) in January. Considering the potential, the

Department is confident that once the service starts in the city, more aggregators will show interest in entering into the business of plying bike taxis.

Like in New Town and Rajarhat, all sorts of safety measures will be in place. One would be able to book a bike taxi using a cell phone app as it is now done for booking app-based cabs.

An official of the Transport Department said that gradually bike taxis can be introduced in several other urban areas. They will thus create a new dimension in the public transport sector of the State.

নিউ টাউন ও রাজারহাটে ব্যাপক সাফল্যের পর এবার কলকাতার রাস্তায় নামতে চলেছে বাইক-ট্যাক্সি। শীঘ্রই এই সংক্রান্ত বিজ্ঞপ্তি জারি করবে পরিবহণ দপ্তর। ২০১৮ সালের জানুয়ারি মাসে অনুষ্ঠিত বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনে এই বিষয়ে মৌ স্বাক্ষরিত হয়েছে পরিবহণ দপ্তর এবং একটি বেসরকারি সংস্থার মধ্যে।

মোবাইল অ্যাপের মাধ্যমে যেমন ট্যাক্সি ডাকা যায়, ঠিক সেভাবেই বাইক ট্যাক্সিও বুকিং করা যাবে। নিউটাউন ও রাজারহাটের মত যাত্রী নিরাপত্তার সমস্ত ব্যবস্থা থাকবে এই বাইক ট্যাক্সিগুলোতে।

রাজারহাটে একটি বেসরকারি সংস্থা রাজ্য পরিবহন দপ্তরের সমস্ত নির্দেশিকা মেনে এই বাইক ট্যাক্সি পরিষেবা চালায়। সেই সংস্থাই সমস্ত বাইক কেনে এবং চালক নিযুক্ত করে।
তবে কলকাতায় এই সংস্থা কলকাতার বাইক মালিকদের সঙ্গে চুক্তি করে তাদের বাইক দিয়েই এই পরিষেবা চালাবে। ঠিক যেভাবে অ্যাপ নির্ভর ট্যাক্সি চলে।

Ease of doing business: Bengal now leader among peers

The third edition of the Central Government’s annual Ease of Doing Business ranking for states, modelled on the international one conducted by the World Bank, has seen West Bengal jumping 15 places to top of the list. West Bengal was in the 16th position last year.

Data collected till March 28 on an online dashboard maintained by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, which conducts the ranking, suggests so. Last year, DIPP had finalised a total list of 372 reforms in regulatory processes, policies, practices or procedures as part of the Business Reforms Action Plan 2017. This is spread across 12 key reform areas. Reforms successfully undertaken by each state are updated on the dashboard, with the result that states with the highest implementation of reforms securing the highest ranks.

The rankings only reflect the changing face of Bengal over the last seven years, under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Through a series of administrative reforms, e-governance measures, and three successful editions of Bengal Global Business Summit, she has turned the state into ‘Best Bengal’.

 

 

শিল্পের পথ সহজ করার মার্কশিটে বাংলাকে ১০০-তে ১০০ দিল কেন্দ্র

শিল্পের গা থেকে লালফিতের ফাঁস আলগা করার বিশ্বব্যাঙ্কের দেওয়া ৩৬৯টি নির্দেশিকার সবকটি সঠিকভাবে লাগু করে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের মার্কশিটে ১০০-তে ১০০ পেল পশ্চিমবঙ্গ। তাই সঙ্গত কারণেই বাংলার স্থান প্রথমে। হিসেব মতে, কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের কাছে পাঠানো তথ্যের ভিত্তিতেই ওই নম্বর পেয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার।

শিল্প গড়তে কোন রাজ্য কতটা আগ্রহী, তা জানতে প্রতিবারই সমীক্ষা করে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার। ব্যবসা করার ক্ষেত্রে প্রশাসনিক জট কাটাতে রাজ্যগুলি কী কী পদক্ষেপ করল, তার জন্য র্যা ঙ্কিং হয় প্রতি বছর। এবার রাজ্যগুলির মূল্যায়ন চলাকালীন বাংলা ছিল একেবারে প্রথম সারিতে।

এদিকে, বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনের মঞ্চে দাঁড়িয়ে মুকেশ আম্বানি ঘোষণা করেছিলেন, ব্যবসা বা শিল্পের পথ সহজ করার কাজে দেশের মধ্যে এক নম্বরে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ। অর্থ ও শিল্পমন্ত্রী অমিত মিত্র থেকে শুরু করে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ও জানিয়েছেন, দেশের সেরা স্থানে রয়েছে রাজ্য। জানুয়ারির মাঝামাঝি সময়ে এ রাজ্যে বেঙ্গল গ্লোবাল বিজনেস সামিট হয়েছিল। সেই সময় রাজ্য ছিল এক নম্বরে। বাংলা এক নম্বর স্থান ধরে রাখায়, দিন কয়েক আগে ফের তা নিয়ে সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় সরব হয়েছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

পশ্চিবঙ্গকে যে প্রথম স্থান থেকে সরানো কার্যত সম্ভব নয়, তা মনে করছেন শিল্প দপ্তরের কর্তারা।

Bengal Global Business Summit 2018 began today. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the two-day business summit at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister thanked the captains of the industry present there. She highlighted the advantages and opportunities for investing in Bengal.

The past editions of the Bengal Global Business Summit have proven to be milestones in terms of establishing Bengal as an ideal investment destination, and the 4th edition of Bengal Global Business Summit will project its business-readiness to the global investor community, spearheading the surge ahead.

Highlights of the CM’s speech:

Captains of industry are present here today and spoke from their heart. There is nothing much for me to say.

Bengal has a strategic location. It is the gateway for ASEAN countries, NE India. Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan are our bordering countries. There are a lot of opportunities.

Nine major countries have become our partners for BGBS: Germany, UK, Italy, France, Poland, S Kora, Czech Republic and UAE. Large delegations are present from China (39), Poland (50), UK (25), Italy (40).

As Ambani ji said, in ease of doing business, Bengal is No. 1 State. Despite the legacy of 34 years, we are trying our best.

Our plan expenditure has increased by 3 times; capital expenditure has increased by 7 times in six years.

Our GDP has more than doubled in six years. We are among the top States in terms of GDP.

In Skill Development and MSME sectors, Bengal is No 1.We have received the highest award for e-governance. Our e-taxation system has received award.

We have created more than 81 lakh employment in six years. In creation of rural employment, Bengal is No 1 in India. We are proud of that.

Before we came to power, man days lost due to strike was more than 70 lakh. Now, it is zero.

We want both industry and agriculture to prosper. They are like two sisters.

We have surplus power, skilled power. We are a powerhouse of talent. We have created the requisite infrastructure for industry.

We have received UN recognition for our scheme to empower the girl child – Kanyashree.

FIFA was all praises for the arrangements made by Bengal for U-17 Football World Cup.

Accountability, credibility, transparency, sincerity and punctuality – these are our credentials.

Bengal has the potential in every sector. Bengal is the cultural capital of the world. Bengal is the investment destination now.

In Tagore’s words, “Esho amar ghore esho” (come to our home). Come and invest in Bengal.

 

বাংলাই শিল্পের আদর্শ গন্তব্য: মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়

শুরু হল দুদিন ব্যাপী বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন ২০১৮। নিউটাউনের বিশ্ব বঙ্গ কনভেনশন সেন্টারে এই সম্মেলনের উদ্বোধন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

এই দুদিন ব্যাপী সম্মেলনে দেশ বিদেশ থেকে শিল্পপতি, কর্পোরেট লিডার, প্রতিনিধিরা এসেছেন। অতীতের তিনটি সম্মেলনে বাংলাকে শিল্পের গন্তব্য হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করতে অনেকটাই সক্ষম হয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার। সেই কাজটাই এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া হবে এই সম্মেলনে।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর বক্তব্যের কিছু অংশ:

আজ এখানে অনেক শিল্পপতি উপস্থিত, তারা সকলে তাদের মনের কথা বলেছেন। আমার বেশি কিছু বলার নেই।

বাংলার ভৌগলিক অবস্থান যথেষ্ট গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। বাংলা উত্তর পূর্ব ভারত ও দক্ষিণ পূর্ব এশিয়ার প্রবেশদ্বার। বাংলাদেশ, নেপাল, ভুটান আমাদের প্রতিবেশী দেশ। বাংলায় অনেক সুযোগ রয়েছে।

৯ টি দেশ বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনে আমাদের পার্টনার: জার্মানি, ইউকে, ইতালি, ফ্রান্স, পোল্যান্ড, দক্ষিণ কোরিয়া, চেক রিপাবলিক এবং ইউএই।

বিভিন্ন দেশ থেকে এসেছে বড় প্রতিনিধিদল – চীন (৩৯), পোল্যান্ড (৫০), ইউকে (২৫), ইতালি (৪০)।

আমরা আমাদের দেশকে ভালোবাসি। আমরা সব ধর্ম, জাতি, সকলের জন্য কাজ করি।

আম্বানি জি ঠিকই বলেছেন, শিল্প গড়ার সুবিধায় বাংলা ১ নম্বর। বাংলায় ৩৪ বছরের অপশাসন সত্ত্বেও আমরা বিভিন্ন উদ্যোগ নিচ্ছি।

গত ৬ বছরে আমাদের পরিকল্পনা খাতে ব্যয় ৩ গুণ বেড়েছে এবং মূলধনী ব্যয় ৭ গুণ বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে।

৬ বছরে আমাদের জিডিপি দ্বিগুন হয়েছে। অন্যান্য রাজ্যের তুলনায় বাংলা জিডিপি বৃদ্ধির দিক দিয়ে এগিয়ে।

দক্ষতা বিকাশ, ক্ষুদ্র ও মাঝারি শিল্প ক্ষেত্রে বাংলা ১ নম্বরে। ই-গভর্ন্যান্স, ই-ট্যাক্সেশানে আমরা পুরস্কার পেয়েছি।

যুব সমাজ আমাদের অনুপ্রেরণা। ওরাই আমাদের ভবিষ্যৎ। গত ৬ বছরে বাংলায় ৮১ লক্ষ কর্মসংস্থান হয়েছে।

গ্রামীণ কর্মসংস্থানে বাংলা ১ নম্বরে। এটা আমাদের গর্ব। আপনারা যত বিনিয়োগ করবেন কর্মসংস্থান তত বাড়বে।

মেয়েদের ক্ষমতায়নের জন্য বাংলার কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্প রাষ্ট্রসংঘের পুরস্কার পেয়েছে।

বাংলায় ফুটবল বিশ্বকাপ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। ফিফা আমাদের আয়োজনের ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করেছে।

দায়বদ্ধতা, বিশ্বাসযোগ্যতা, স্বচ্ছতা, আন্তরিকতা এবং স্থিতিশীলতা – আমাদের মন্ত্র।

বাংলায় সব ক্ষেত্রে সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে। বাংলা সংস্কৃতির পীঠস্থান। বাংলাই এখন বিনিয়োগের গন্তব্যস্থল।

France is the partner country at the 2018 Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS). As a result, 10 leading French have confirmed participation the international business summit.

The big 10 are Capgemini, Matière, Dassault Systèmes, Fives Stein, JCDecaux, Kernoes, Decathlon, Schneider, Suez and Accor. This is a major gain for Bengal as the ten represent some of the biggest names in the consultancy, manufacturing, defence, advertising, construction, sports, energy and hospitality sectors.

This year, more than 3,000 delegates from the US, France, Japan, Germany, China, Italy, Russia and the UK.

১০টি ফরাসি কোম্পানি আসছে বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনে

চতুর্থ বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনে ফ্রান্সের প্রথম সারির ১০টি কোম্পানি আসছে। এ বছরের সম্মেলনে ফ্রান্স হল পার্টনার রাষ্ট্র।
ফ্রান্সের কনসালট্যান্ট জেনারেল বলেন, সংস্কৃতি ও অর্থনীতি একে ওপরের সঙ্গে জড়িত। আমরা গর্বিত ১০টি কোম্পানি যারা বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনে অংশগ্রহণ করবে, তাদের নাম ঘোষণা করে। ফ্রান্স এই সম্মেলনের পার্টনার রাষ্ট্র হওয়ায় আমরা আনন্দিত।

যে দশটি কোম্পানির প্রতিনিধি আসবেন, তারা হল, ক্যাপজেমিনি, ম্যাটায়ার, ড্যাসল সিস্টেমেস, ফাইভসস্টেন, জেসিদিই-কক্স, কার্নিওস, ডেকাথলন, স্নেইডার, সুয়েজ, অ্যাকর।

গত বছর সম্মেলনে ফ্রান্সের কনসালট্যান্ট জেনারেল ফ্রান্সের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করেন। এবারে ফরাসি প্রতিনিধিরা আসবেন।

Over the past three years, Bengal Global Business Summit has emerged as one of the foremost business summits in India. Some of the top industrialists have participated in these summits, along with several international companies.

The summits have brought substantial investments too, something that was unimaginable during the Left Front rule. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s vision of industrial growth and prosperity for Bengal is bearing fruit.

The first edition of this summit was organised on January 7 and 8, 2015. The summit received participation from 20 countries and regions including the UK, Japan, USA, Singapore, Australia, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Israel, Spain, Belarus, Czech Republic, Korea, Luxembourg and the neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. Captains of Indian industry and global entrepreneurs were invited to share their experiences and their future business plans for the state. Investment proposals worth Rs 2.4 lakh crore were received.

The second edition of the summit was held on January 8 and 9, 2016. It has plenary sessions addressed by dignitaries from India and abroad and national and international speakers who shared their thoughts and experiences. The summit also focused on B2B (business-to-business) and G2B (government-to-business) interactions. BGBS 2016 had the presence of industry leaders, senior ministers from India and abroad, heads of business, and government leaders from 26 countries including USA, UK, Italy, Spain, Germany, Japan, China, Korea, Bhutan, Bangladesh, etc. participated in the Summit. Living up to the tagline of ‘Bengal Surging Ahead’, BGBS 2016 concluded on a very high and optimistic note. Rs 2.50 lakh crore of business announcements, business document exchanges, expressions of interest and investment proposals were received at the summit.

The third edition of the summit, held on January 21 and 22, 2017, resulted in expressions of interest and investment proposals worth Rs 2.35 lakh crore. It was inaugurated by Pranab Mukherjee, the President of India, and plenary sessions were addressed by dignitaries and business leaders, from both India and abroad. There was participation by over 4,000 delegates from across India and 29 other countries. Japan, Poland, Italy & Germany were the partner countries.

 

ফিরে দেখা বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন ২০১৫-১৭

গত তিন বছরে দেশের অন্যতম সফল বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করেছে বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন। অনেক শীর্ষস্থানীয় শিল্পপতি ও আন্তর্জাতিক সংস্থা এই সম্মেলনে অংশ নিয়েছে। এসেছে বিপুল বিনিয়োগ। এই শিল্পমুখী পরিস্থিতি বাম আমলে ছিল কল্পনার অতীত। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের অনুপ্রেরণায় এই সুফল এসছে।

প্রথম বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন হয় ২০১৫ সালের ৭ ও ৮ জানুয়ারি। অংশ নেয় ২০টি দেশ: ব্রিটেন, জাপান, আমেরিকা, সিঙ্গাপুর, অস্ট্রেলিয়া, চিন, মালয়েশিয়া, তাইওয়ান, ইসরায়েল, স্পেন, বেলারুস, চেক রিপাবলিক, কোরিয়া, লুক্সেম্বরগ এবং প্রতিবেশী রাষ্ট্র বাংলাদেশ, নেপাল ও ভূটান। ভারতের পাশাপাশি বিদেশের নামী শিল্পপতিরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন এই সম্মেলনে। ২.৪ লক্ষ কোটি টাকার বিনিয়োগের প্রস্তাব আসে।

দ্বিতীয় বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন অনুষ্ঠিত হয় ২০১৬ সালের ৮ ও ৯ জানুয়ারি। দেশ বিদেশের অতিথিরা তাদের অভিজ্ঞতা তুলে ধরেন এই সম্মেলনে। এই সম্মেলনে জোর দেওয়া হয়েছিল বিজনেস টু বিজনেস ও গভার্ন্মেন্ট টু বিজনেস আলোচনার ওপর। এই সম্মেলনে ২৬টি দেশ অংশ নেয়: আমেরিকা, ব্রিটেন, ইতালি, স্পেন, জার্মানি, জাপান, চিন, কোরিয়া, ভূটান, বাংলাদেশ ও অন্যান্য দেশ। সম্মেলনের ট্যাগ লাইন ছিল ‘বেঙ্গল সার্জিং অ্যাহেড’। এই সম্মেলনে ২.৫ লক্ষ কোটি টাকার বিনিয়োগের প্রস্তাব আসে।

তৃতীয় বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন অনুষ্ঠিত হয় ২০১৭ সালের ২১ ও ২২ জানুয়ারি। ২.৩৫ লক্ষ কোটি টাকার বিনিয়োগের প্রস্তাব আসে। ভারতের তৎকালীন রাষ্ট্রপতি প্রনব মুখোপাদ্ধ্যায় উদ্বোধন করেন এই সম্মেলন। দেশ বিদেশের শিল্পপতিরা বক্তব্য রাখেন। ২৯ টি দেশ থেকে ৪০০০ এরও বেশী প্রতিনিধি অংশ নেন এই সম্মেলনে। জাপান, পোল্যান্ড, ইতালি ও জার্মানি ছিল সম্মেলনের পার্টনার দেশ।

Thirty Chinese companies would participate in the upcoming Bengal Global Business Summmit (BGBS) to be held in the metropolis later this month.

Consul general of China in Kolkata Ma Zhanwu said that out of the 30, ten of them would be participating for the first time in the business summit to be held here on January 16 and 17. The remaining 20 already have ongoing projects in India, he said briefing reporters here today.

He said that China was looking to build strong trade and business ties with the eastern region, particularly West Bengal. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM) corridor would help in supporting this effort.

China had been importing Darjeeling tea, jute, seafood, handicraft and garments from West Bengal.

বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনে অংশ নেবে ৩০টি চৈনিক কোম্পানি

কলকাতায় অনুষ্ঠিত হতে চলা ৪র্থ বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনে ৩০টি চৈনিক কোম্পানি অংশগ্রহন করবে। সম্মেলনটি হবে বিশ্ব বাংলা কনভেনশন সেন্টারে ১৬ ও ১৭ই জানুয়ারিতে।

কলকাতার চৈনিক কন্স্যুল জেনারেল সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, এই ৩০টি কম্পানির মধ্যে ১০টি কোম্পানি এই প্রথমবার এই সম্মেলনে অংশ নেবে। বাকি ২০টি কোম্পানি ইতিমধ্যেই ভারতে তাদের প্রকল্প গড়ে তুলছে।

তিনি বলেন, চিন পূর্ব ভারতের, বিশেষত বাংলার, সঙ্গে দীর্ঘমেয়াদী বাণিজ্যিক সম্পর্ক গড়তে আগ্রহী। বেল্ট অ্যান্ড রোড ইনিশিয়েটিভ এবং বাংলাদেশ, চিন, ভারত ও মায়ানমার করিডোর এই উদ্যোগে সাহায্য করবে।

প্রসঙ্গত, চিন দার্জিলিং চা, পাট, সি-ফুড ও জামা কাপড় আমদানি করছে রাজ্য থেকে।

A high-level Polish delegation will participate in the upcoming Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) and representatives of Silesia, an economically robust region of the east European country, and West Bengal will sign an MoU on bilateral cooperation, an official statement said on Thursday.

The head of the delegation Marek Magierowski, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for the relations with Asia and economic cooperation, will be accompanied by Grzegorz Tobiszowski, First Deputy Minister of Energy, Ambassador of Poland to India, Adam Burakowski, as well as by representatives of Silesia.

The delegation comprises a group of over a dozen prosperous Polish companies, representing mostly the energy sector, including coal mining and coking coal production. Poland and India rely heavily on coal, the statement said.

“Our mutual goal is to increase energy efficiency which could be done by development of energy saving, clean technologies and modernisation of the energy units,” it said.

Polish companies that will be present at the BGBS to be held on January 16-17 in the metropolis, will be offering innovative products, technologies and services in this field and their representatives are hoping to find new business opportunities and partnerships in the state, the statement added.

In a huge boost to industry in Bengal, energy major Great Eastern Energy Corporation Limited (GEECL) has decided to invest Rs 2,500 crore to extract coal-bed methane from coalfields in Raniganj.

Coming just before the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), this decision is being seen as major thumbs up for the climate for investment in the state, something that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been stressing on at every business interaction she has.

A spokesperson for GEECL has said that the company would set up 144 wells and a commensurate length of pipelines to extract the methane.

It should be mentioned here that GEECL already operates a methane-extraction setup in the Raniganj (South) block. This Rs 2,500 crore new investment is a big step in the right direction.

গ্রেট ইস্টার্ন এনার্জি কর্পোরেশন লিমিটেড দেশের প্রথম সংস্থা যারা ভূগর্ভস্থ কয়লাস্তর থেকে প্রাকৃতিক গ্যাস উৎপাদন শুরু করে। সংস্থার সিইও জানিয়েছেন, পশ্চিমবঙ্গের রানিগঞ্জ ব্লকে গ্যাস উৎপাদনের জন্য ১৪৪টি নতুন কুয়ো খনন এবং পাইপলাইন বসাতে প্রায় ২৫০০ কোটি টাকার লগ্নির পরিকল্পনা করা হয়েছে।

আগামী তিন থেকে চার বছর ধরে লগ্নি করা হবে।

The sun of 2017 is setting, and 2018 is on the horizon. At this juncture, let us take a look at some of the crucial events that have held up for everyone.

It is an undeniable fact that under the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress Government, Bengal has turned a crucial bend on the road to development, and now there is no looking back.

Here are 17 events in 2017 that we will all remember:

1. Kanyashree wins UN award

On June 23, 2017, the Bengal Government was awarded the United Nations Public Service Award for winning the first prize among projects in South Asia for the Kanyashree Scheme.

2. FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Bengal

The Bengal Government earned worldwide praise, including from world football’s governing body, FIFA for successfully organising the Under-17 World Cup. Two of the most crucial matches, a semi-final and he final, were both held at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.

3. Victory in by-elections

All the four by-elections held in 2017 – for the seats of Cooch Behar, Dakshin Kanthi, Tamluk and Sabang – were won by huge margins by the Trinamool Congress.

4. Bengal gets new districts

The State Government created four new districts for administrative convenience, bringing the total number to 23. Kalimpong was created out of Darjeeling and Jhargram was created out of Paschim Medinipur while Bardhaman was broken up into Purba Bardhaman and Paschim Bardhaman.

5. Trinamool blooms in the Hills

For the first time ever, Trinamool Congress has formed a local government in the Hills region. Mirik Municipality is now with Trinamool Congress.

6. Mega health reform

Setting a benchmark for other states as well as the Union Government, the West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation and Transparency) Bill was passed by the State Assembly, brining in a raft of new measures for strengthening the health administration. Among other advantages, now, even for treatment in private hospitals, patients would be able to know the details about the cost and other aspects.

7. Balm on demonetisation troubles

The Bengal Government brought in the Samarthan Scheme in March 2017. It has ensured that those who have had to return to the state, having lost their jobs due to the impact of demonetisation, receive a one-time grant of Rs 50,000 to give them stability as well as enable them to start a new business. Along with this, they are also able to enrol in government schemes which would help them to ensure a steady income.

8. ‘Experience Bengal’ become viral

The State Tourism Department’s promotional video, ‘Experience Bengal’ has picked up a lot of praise, both in terms of the visuals and the content.

9. International business summit hits the right notes

The third Bengal Global Business Summit in January became a forum for industry interactions of the highest order. Representatives from about 30 countries attended the summit, and of course those from across India. Memoranda of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 2.34 lakh was signed at the summit.

10. Rosogolla wins it for Bengal

After a long fight, Rosogolla has been officially recognised, through the granting of a geographical information (GI) tag, as belonging to Bengal.

11. Sitalpati and gobindobhog get international recognition

The well-known aromatic gobindobhog variety of rice has earned a GI tag, giving it a locational uniqueness, and thus, a huge marketability. Sitalpati earned a similar recognition from UNESCO when it was recognised as an ‘intangible cultural heritage’.

12. Bengal leads in MSME

Over the last five years, among the states, entrepreneurs of Bengal, as a whole, have received the highest amount of loans, amounting to 15 billion US dollars. Additionally, in terms of both the number of micro, small and medium (MSME) enterprises and the number of people employed in those, Bengal stands second in the country. Almost 37 lakh MSME enterprises employ about 86 lakh people.

13. Bengal is leading in the construction of toilets

Bengal is the leading state in India in the construction of toilets. The State Government’s Mission Nirmal Bangla is ensuring that Bengal wins the race in terms of a sustainable open-defecation free (ODF) culture. UNESCO has specially recognised the state for this. Not just construction, the government is ensuring through various local campaigns that using proper toilets becomes a normal habit.

14. Stress on infrastructural development

The Bengal Government has decided to spend Rs 12,000 crore under the non-Plan head, with special stress on building infrastructure. Among the infrastructural projects completed is building 18,000 km of roads.

15. Chief Minister’s England and Scotland trip

This year, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee undertook highly successful visits to England and Scotland, drawing a lot of interest from industrialists and entrepreneurs. At the various summits she attended, Mamata Banerjee held up the huge opportunities and every type of help from the government that investors will find in Bengal.

16. Horasis Asia Summit in Kolkata

The prestigious Horasis Asia summit was held in Kolkata in November, which was the first time that it was held in India. Business leaders (CEOs, promoters, founders, etc.) from 65 countries, numbering 350, attended the summit. The Chief Minister addressed the summit too, inviting investment in all sectors in Bengal.

17. Infosys comes to Bengal

That the industrial climate of Bengal is changing for the better became evident when the international IT giant, Infosys decided to invest Rs 100 crore to set up a campus in Rajarhat, which will generate 1,000 jobs.

১. কন্যাশ্রীর বিশ্বজয়

রাষ্ট্রপুঞ্জে জনপরিষেবা দিবস উপলক্ষে এক অনুষ্ঠানে বাংলার প্রকল্প ‘‌কন্যাশ্রী’‌ প্রথম পুরস্কার পায়। ৬৩টি দেশের ৫৫২ প্রকল্পকে হারিয়ে সেরার শিরোপা পায় কন্যাশ্রী।

২. বিশ্ববাংলায় বিশ্বকাপ

এই প্রথম বার কলকাতায় আয়োজিত হয় অনূর্ধ্ব ১৭ বিশ্বকাপ ফুটবল। রাজ্য সরকারের সুষ্ঠু ব্যবস্থাপনায় মুগ্ধ হয় ফিফা কর্তৃপক্ষ। সবচেয়ে বেশি সংখ্যক দর্শকের উপস্থিতির জন্য প্রসংশিত হয় কলকাতা।

৩. উপনির্বাচনে তৃণমূলের জয়জয়কার

২০১৭ সালের ৪টি উপনির্বাচনে (কোচবিহার, দক্ষিণ কাঁথি, তমলুক ও সবং) বিপুল ভোটে জয়লাভ করে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস।

৪. বাংলা পেল নতুন জেলা

নতুন তিনটি জেলা গঠিত হল বাংলায়। দার্জিলিং জেলা ভেঙে গড়া হয় কালিম্পঙ, বর্ধমান ভেঙে তৈরী হয় পূর্ব ও পশ্চিম বর্ধমান, এবং পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর ভেঙে তৈরী হয় ঝাড়গ্রাম জেলা।

৫. পাহাড়ে ফুটল ঘাসফুল

রাজনৈতিক ইতিহাসে প্রথমবার পাহাড়ে (মিরিক পুরসভা) এককভাবে জয়লাভ করে পুরসভা গঠন করল তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস। প্রসঙ্গত, এর আগে কখনও পাহাড়ে সেখানকার আঞ্চলিক দল ছাড়া কেউ জয়লাভ করেনি।

৬. স্বাস্থ্যে বড় সংস্কার

স্বাস্থ্য পরিষেবায় স্বচ্ছতা আনতে, রোগীদের হয়রানি বন্ধ করতে ও চিকিৎসায় গাফিলতি রুখতে নতুন আইন আনল রাজ্য সরকার, গঠিত হল ১১ সদস্যের স্বাস্থ্য বিষয়ক কমিশন। রাজ্যের বেসরকারি হাসপাতাল ও নার্সিংহোমের বিলিং এর ওপর নজর রাখবে এই কমিশন। পাশাপাশি আইন লঙ্ঘন করলে হাসপাতালগুলির ওপর জরিমানা চাপাবে কমিশন।

৭. নোটবন্দির ক্ষতে প্রলেপ

২০১৭ সালের মার্চ মাসে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকার ‘সমর্থন’ প্রকল্প চালু করেছে। যে সমস্ত শ্রমিক/কর্মচারী কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের নোটবন্দির ফলে অন্য রাজ্য থেকে কাজ হারিয়ে ফিরে এসেছেন তাদের ৫০০০০ টাকার আর্থিক সাহায্য স্বরূপ এককালীন এই অনুদান দেওয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে এই প্রকল্প চালু করা হয়েছে।

৮. ভাইরাল ‘এক্সপিরিয়েন্স বেঙ্গল’

জানুয়ারী মাসে প্রকাশিত হয় পশ্চিমবঙ্গ পর্যটনের নতুন ভিডিও। সোশ্যাল মিডিয়া সাইটে বিপুল আলোড়ন ফেলে এই ভিডিও। প্রায় এক কোটি মানুষ এই ভিডিও দেখেছেন টুইটার, ফেসবুক, ইউটিউব সহ নানা সাইটে।

৯. বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনে লক্ষ্মী লাভ

তৃতীয় বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন অনুষ্ঠিত হয় জানুয়ারী মাসে। প্রায় ৩০টি দেশ থেকে প্রতিনিধিরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন এই সম্মেলনে। ২ লক্ষ ৩৪ হাজার কোটি টাকার লগ্নি প্রস্তাব পায় রাজ্য এই সম্মেলনে।

১০. রসগোল্লা বাংলারই

দীর্ঘ লড়াইয়ের পর শেষ হাসি হাসল বাংলাই। রসগোল্লার জিআই ট্যাগ জিতে নিল পশ্চিমবঙ্গ।

১১. শীতলপাটি ও গোবিন্দভোগের আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতি

আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতি পেল বাংলার হস্তশিল্প। রাজ্যের শীতলপাটি স্বীকৃতি পে ইউনেস্কো থেকে। পাশাপাশি, বাংলার সুগন্ধি গোবিন্দভোগ চাল পায় জিআই ট্যাগ।

১২. ক্ষুদ্র ও মাঝারি শিল্পে এগিয়ে বাংলা

ক্ষুদ্র ও মাঝারি শিল্পে গত পাঁচ বছরে ব্যাঙ্ক থেকে সব থেকে বেশি ঋণ পেয়েছে বাংলা, যার পরিমাণ হল প্রায় ১৫ বিলিয়ন ডলার। এর পাশাপাশি ক্ষুদ্র ও মাঝারি শিল্প প্রতিষ্ঠানের সংখ্যা অনুসারেও পশ্চিমবঙ্গ দেশে দ্বিতীয় স্থানে। বাংলায় প্রায় ৩৭ লক্ষ ক্ষুদ্র ও মাঝারি শিল্প প্রতিষ্ঠান আছে। প্রায় ৮৬ লক্ষ, ক্ষুদ্র ও মাঝারি শিল্পের সঙ্গে যুক্ত রয়েছেন। প্রসঙ্গত এই ক্ষেত্রেও বাংলা দেশে দ্বিতীয় স্থানাধিকারী।

১৩. শৌচাগার নির্মাণে শীর্ষে বাংলা

অন্যান্য রাজ্যের তুলনায় শৌচাগার নির্মাণে সবথেকে এগিয়ে বাংলা। এর জন্য ইউনিসেফ-এর প্রশংসা কুড়িয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার।

১৪. পরিকাঠামো উন্নয়নে জোর

পরিকাঠামো উন্নয়নে ১২ হাজার কোটি টাকা খরচ করবে রাজ্য সরকার। ২০১৭-১৮ অর্থবর্ষের বাজেটে পরিকাঠামো উন্নয়নের জন্য ধার্য আর্থিক লক্ষ্যমাত্রা ছাপিয়ে রাজ্য সরকার এই অতিরিক্ত ১২ হাজার কোটি টাকার সংস্থান করতে পেরেছে। এর পাশাপাশি রাজ্য জুড়ে ১৮০০০ কিলোমিটার নতুন গ্রামীণ রাস্তার সূচনা করা হয় মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর হাতে।

১৫. মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর ইংল্যান্ড ও স্কটল্যান্ড সফর

লন্ডনে ভগিনী নিবেদিতার জন্মের সার্ধশতবর্ষ উদ্যাপন উপলক্ষে নিবেদিতার বাড়িতে স্মৃতিফলক উন্মোচনে উপস্থিত ছিলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। স্কটল্যান্ডের এডিনবরাতে শিল্প বৈঠক করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। সেখান থেকে তিনি বাংলায় লগ্নির আহ্বান জানান। তুলে ধরেন রাজ্যের শিল্প সম্ভাবনার নানা দিক।

১৬. হোরাসিস বৈঠক কলকাতায়

শিল্পের বিষয়ে সুইজারল্যান্ডের আন্তর্জাতিক ‘থিঙ্ক ট্যাঙ্ক’, হোরাসিস তাদের প্রথম এশিয়া সম্মেলন করে কলকাতায়। এই সম্মেলনে ৬৫টি দেশের ৩৫০র বেশী কর্পোরেট লিডাররা যোগ দেন, যারা প্রতিষ্ঠাতা, মালিক, ম্যানেজিং ডিরেক্টর, প্রেসিডেন্টের মত মর্যাদাসম্পন্ন। এই সম্মেলনে বাংলার মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বাংলায় বিনিয়োগের জন্য আহ্বান জানান শিল্পপতি ও শিল্পপ্রতিনিধিদের।

১৭. বাংলায় আসছে ইনফোসিস

বাংলায় বিনিয়োগ করছে তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি সংস্থা ইনফোসিস। জমির মালিকানা এবং ব্যবহারের ক্ষেত্রে ছাড় পেতে চলেছে দেশের অন্যতম সেরা তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি সংস্থাটি। ইনফোসিসকে পুরোপুরি ৫০ একর জমির মালিকানা (ফ্রি-হোল্ড) দেবে সরকার।
