Dr Santanu Sen speaks on the need for ‘one company, one drug, one price’ policy

FULL TRANSCRIPT

Sir, I would like to remind the august House what Winston Churchill said in 1945, while making comments on the Bill for India’s independence. He expressed the feeling that the British were going to give freedom to a people who have no notion of the term ‘nation’, and that they will tear this freedom into pieces at the first available opportunity because of predominant incivility.

Sir, what we noticed is that our respected Prime Minister ji, when facing the media in the month of April 2018, in Westminster Hall, gave a hint that of a nexus between Indian doctors and pharmaceutical companies. He said this on British soil, in a derogatory way.

So our humble suggestion, and what several medical organisations have been appealing before our Government, is to implement a policy of ‘one company, one drug, one price’.

Then, no one in the country, not even our Prime Minister, would be able to raise fingers towards our doctors, something which the doctors’ community in India surely deserves.

Thank you, Sir.
