Muktir Alo is a scheme run by the Bengal Government for the rehabilitation of women who have been trafficked for prostitution. This scheme, a brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was inaugurated by her in September 2015. It has been successful in providing succor to such women in its own small way.

One such beneficiary, after receiving training, has opened a cafeteria named Mukti near the entrance of Alipore Zoo. Similar cafeterias by beneficiaries have also been opened at other places in Kolkata – at Munshiganj in Khidderpore and at the court premises in Alipore. Another is slated to open at Bikash Bhavan in Salt Lake.

In the first phase of this programme, 50 women were given training in making spices and block printing. In the second phase, 25 more people were trained. During the period of training, the State Government also gives every woman a stipend of Rs 2,500 and the cost of transportation.

Along with providing training, the aim behind the scheme is to also make the women self-sufficient. Towards that end, the government provides Rs 25,000 to those interested in opening a start-up with the help of the training received.

‘মুক্তির আলো’ প্রকল্পে স্বনিভর হয়ে নতুন ক্যাফেটেরিয়া চালু করলেন অবহেলিতরা

‘মুক্তির আলো’ – ২০১৫ সালের ৪ সেপ্টেম্বর এই প্রকল্পের সূচনা করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। পাচার হওয়া নারী বা বিভিন্নভাবে নির্যাতিতদের সমাজের মূল স্রোতে ফিরিয়ে আনাই এই প্রকল্পের মূল উদ্দেশ্য।

এই প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে স্বনির্ভর হয়ে ক্যাফেটেরিয়া খুললেন এক পাহাড়ি কন্যা। আলিপুর চিড়িয়াখানার প্রবেশের ঠিক মুখেই খোলা হয়েছে এই ক্যাফেটেরিয়া – নাম দেওয়া হয়েছে ‘মুক্তি’।

এই প্রকল্পে প্রথম দফায় ৫০ জনকে মশলা তৈরি ও ব্লক প্রিন্টিং এর প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হয়েছে। মুক্তির আলো – ২ প্রকল্পের আরও ২৫ জনকে প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হয়েছে। প্রশিক্ষণের সময় তাদের ২৫০০ টাকা স্টাইপেন্ড দেওয়া হয়েছে। থাকা ও পরিবহনের খরচ দিয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার। তাদের প্রশিক্ষণের পাশাপাশি স্বনির্ভর করে তোলাই লক্ষ্য। ২৫ হাজার টাকা নিয়ে স্টার্ট আপ ব্যবসা চালু করার জন্য সাহায্যও করবে সরকার।

খিদিরপুরের মুনশিগঞ্জ ও আলিপুর আদালত চত্বরেও তৈরি হয়েছে সমাজের অবহেলিত ও পিছিয়ে পড়া মেয়েদের ক্যাফেটেরিয়া। শীঘ্রই বিকাশ ভবনেও হবে এই ক্যাফেটেরিয়া।

The yellow and blue-and-white taxis of Kolkata are going to become ‘smart’, courtesy the enabling of payment of fares by debit card. This facility was launched from August 30. To start with, 1,000 taxis have been fitted with the card swiping devices.

This facility would benefit everyone. For locals, it would mean doing away with the headache of keeping change handy, as it is not always possible for drivers to give change. On the other hand, for foreign tourists, the new mode of payment would mean not having to worry about keeping local currency for payment.

This service is being introduced first in taxis which are based at the airport, and before the commencement of the festive season. Gradually, it would be extended to all taxis in the city.

এবার হলুদ ট্যাক্সিতে হবে কার্ডে পেমেন্ট

পুজোর আগেই এবার স্মার্ট হচ্ছে হলুদ এবং নীল-সাদা ট্যাক্সি। শহরের সাধারণ যাত্রী থেকে বিদেশি পর্যটক-ডেবিট কার্ডেই এবার মেটাতে পারবেন ট্যাক্সির ভাড়া। ডলার বা বিদেশি টাকা ভাঙ্গানোর হ্যাপাও ফলে আর পোহাতে হবে না শহরে আসা বিদেশি পর্যটকদের। শহরের এক হাজার ট্যাক্সিতে আগামী বুধবার থেকেই বসে যাচ্ছে নতুন এই সোয়াইপ মেশিন। দেখতে অনেকটা মবাইলের মত। যাত্রীরা যে কোনও কার্ডই এই মেসিনে সোয়াইপ করে ভাড়া মেটাতে পারবেন।

“নতুন এই সোয়াইপ মেশিন ট্যাক্সিতে বসানো হল ক্যাশলেস পদ্ধতিতে যাত্রীরা ভাড়া মেটাতে পারবেন।” সবথেকে সুবিধা পাবেন বিদেশি পর্যটকরা। কারণ, তাদের বেশিরভাগের কাছেই বিদেশি টাকা বা ডলার থাকে। যে কোনও কার্ড থাকলে তা সোয়াইপ করে ভাড়া দিতে পারবেন। তাই এই মেশিন বসানো ট্যাক্সি প্রথমধাপে এয়ারপোর্টেই বেশি দেওয়া হবে। পরবর্তী ক্ষেত্রে শহর জুড়ে অন্যান্য ট্যাক্সিতেও এভাবে ভাড়া মেটানোর অত্যাধুনিক বাবস্থা চালু করে হবে।

The Bengal Government, in collaboration with the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), has initiated the process of getting a geographical indication (GI) registration, conventionally known as a GI tag, for Kolkata-made jewellery.

‘Kolkatti’ has been proposed as the name for this unique brand of jewellery. Along with GJEPC, IIT Kharagpur is also providing the technical help in preparing the documents for bagging the tag.

A GI is a name or sign used on certain products that correspond to a specific geographical location or origin (like a town, region, or country). GIs have been defined under Article 22(1) of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS).

The reason for going for the registration of Kolkata-made jewellery is that such jewellery has a major demand in the Middle East, US and UK markets. These are mainly handcrafted, and are known for the fine craftwork of artisans. On the other hand, for the very reason of being popular, it is seen that many people are selling jewellery, improperly branded as Kolkata jewellery. Hence, the State Government, supported by the GJEPC, has taken this initiative.

The art of jewellery-making in Bengal and the designs that are considered to be Bengali are unique. Examples include the art of making bala, bangles in which lacquer is used to fill the insides to give it strength, jaroa jewellery, in which precious stones are set in 18-carat gold, tikli, forehead ornament worn by Bengali brides on the central parting of their hair, laced with a string of pearls and studded with precious stones or beautiful gold-and-silver designs, and kaan, traditional ornament worn on the ear, made up of thin sheets of gold or silver that cover the entire ear.

গয়নার নকশার জিআই পেতে উদ্যোগী রাজ্য

বাংলা গয়নার ডিজাইনের কদর বিশ্বজোড়া। কলকাতার স্বর্ণ শিল্পীদের তৈরি বিশেষ সোনার গয়না ‘কলকাতি’-র জন্য ‘জিওগ্রাফিক্যাল ইন্ডিকেশন’ বা ‘জি আই’ এর আবেদন জানাবে রাজ্য সরকার।

‘জি আই’ তকমা পাওয়ার অর্থ হল, সংশ্লিষ্ট পণ্যটি যে এলাকার, তার বাইরে অন্য কেউ সেটির নকল করতে পারবে না। ইতিমধ্যেই খড়গপুর আই আই টি-র সঙ্গে গাঁটছড়া বেঁধে শুরু হয়েছে প্রস্তুতি পর্ব।

জেম অ্যান্ড জুয়েলারির এক্সপোর্ট কাউন্সিলের সভায় অর্থমন্ত্রী অমিত মিত্র জানান, “কলকাতার শিল্পীরা অল্প সোনায় যে ধরনের গয়না তৈরি করেন, তা পৃথিবীর আর কোথাও পাওয়া যায় না – এটা কলকাতার কারিগরদের বিশেষত্ব। বাংলার এই নকশা যাতে অন্য কেউ নকল করতে না পারে, তার জন্য জি আই-য়ের আবেদন করা হবে”। এর ফলে গয়নার রপ্তানিও বাড়বে বলে তাঁর দাবি।

প্রসঙ্গত, এর আগে দার্জিলিঙের চা, বালুচরি এবং ধনেখালি শাড়ি, নকশি কাঁথা, বর্ধমানের সীতাভোগ-মিহিদানা, জয়নগরের মোয়ার মতো মোট সাতটি সামগ্রী জিআই এর তালিকায় জায়গা করে নিয়েছে। এবার সেই তালিকায় যুক্ত হতে চলেছে কলকাতার হাল্কা সোনার গয়না ‘কলকাতি’।

The Bengal Government is going to enhance the facilities for tourists at Henry’s Island, a popular destination in Sunderbans in South 24 Parganas district.

A centre for making people aware of, and appreciate, the unique mangrove zone of the Sundarbans, named Sundarban Interpretation Centre is being set up. The centre would house pictures and models accompanied by write-ups describing the floral and faunal features of the region.

The State Government has also taken up an initiative for the operation of environment-friendly battery-run cars to transport people to the the beach in Henry’s Island. Normal passenger vehicles are banned from the beach zone to prevent the destruction of the soft sand under the impact of tyres. They have to be parked at a distance.

Other measures being taken up to create a tourist and environment-friendly area include a sanctuary for migratory birds, restaurants along the main road to the beach and Wi-Fi zones across the island; some such zones have already been set up. Cubicles for bathing on the beach are also already there.

The model for Henry’s Island is also being replicated at nearby destinations like Bakkhali and Fraserganj in order to facilitate a Henry’s Island Tourism Circuit. Similar facilities are being developed – for example, bathing cubicles on the beach and a big parking lot in Bakkhali, and lighting up Fraserganj.

হেনরিজ আইল্যান্ডের সৈকতে ব্যাটারি গাড়ি ও ওয়াইফাই পরিষেবা

হেনরিজ আইল্যান্ড, ফ্রেজারগঞ্জ এবং বকখালি অঞ্চল জুড়ে গড়ে উঠছে ভ্রমণার্থীদের স্বপ্নের পর্যটন সার্কিট। রাজ্য পর্যটন উন্নয়ন নিগমের তৎপরতায় কাজ চলছে জোর কদমে। পৃথিবীর সেরা বিচগুলির প্রবেশপথে যেভাবে ‘ব্যাটারি অপারেটেড’ গাড়ি চালানো হয়ে থাকে, হেনরিজ আইল্যান্ডেও সেই ব্যবস্থা করা হচ্ছে। তবে বিশেষ আকর্ষণ কেন্দ্র হিসেবে হেনরিজ আইল্যান্ডে গড়ে উঠছে, ‘সুন্দরবন ইন্টারপ্রিটেশন সেন্টর’। ঠিক সুন্দরবন কী এবং কেন এই সকল তথ্য প্রদান নয়। দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনা থেকে সুন্দরবন অঞ্চলে প্রবেশ করতে গেলে পর্যটকদের কোন পথে প্রবেশ করতে হবে? কী ধরনের ভেসেল পর্যটকদের পছন্দ থেকে শুরু করে গোটা সুন্দরবনের ঐতিহ্যের ইতিহাস এক লহমায় পর্যটকদের চোখের সামনে উঠে আসবে এই সেন্টার থেকে।

হেনরিজ আইল্যান্ড গেট থেকে বিচ পর্যন্ত প্রায় তিন কিলোমিটার দূরত্বের রাস্তায় চালানো হবে অত্যাধুনিক ব্যাটারি চালিত গাড়ি। অন্য কোনও ধরনের গাড়ি নিয়ে সোজা বিচে প্রবেশ করা যাবে না। এর জন্য গেটের বাইরেই থাকছে ব্যাটারি চার্জিং সেন্টার। লাগোয়া বিরাট এলাকায় গড়ে উঠছে পার্কিং লট।

দ্বীপ অঞ্চলে বিভিন্ন জায়গায় গড়ে উঠছে ওয়াইফাই জোন। অর্থাৎ সমুদ্র তীরে ফ্রি-ওয়াইফাই-এর সুবিধা পাবেন পর্যটকেরা। আশা করা হচ্ছে আগামী বছরের মধ্যেই কাজ শেষ করতে পারা যাবে। হেনরিজ আইল্যান্ডের বিচে মাঝে রয়েছে একটা ছোট্ট খাল। জমির স্তর উঁচু করে খালের ওপরে একটি ছোট ব্রিজ করার পরিকল্পনাও রয়েছে। বিচে যাওয়ার রাস্তায় কেতাদুরস্ত রেস্তোরাঁ ছাড়াও একটি ‘ইকো এগজিবিশন সেন্টার’ গড়ার উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে। বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির পরিযায়ী পাখিরালয় গড়ে তোলা হবে।

হেনরিজ আইল্যান্ডকে মডেল করেই, বকখালি বিচে স্নান করার জন্য ছোট ছোট কিউবিকেলস, বসার ব্যবস্থা ছাড়াও বকখালিতে বিশাল পার্কিং লট নির্মাণ করা হচ্ছে। একইভাবে ফ্রেজারগঞ্জকেও আলোকোজ্জ্বল ভাবে সাজিয়ে তোলা হচ্ছে। আগামী বছরের ছুটির মরশুমে পর্যটকদের কাছে কাছে প্রধান আকর্ষণের জায়গা হয়ে উঠতে চলেছে ‘হেনরিজ আইল্যান্ড পর্যটন সার্কিট’।
