West Bengal Chief Minister among the 50 most influential people in the world of finance

The Bloomberg Markets magazine ranks West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee among the 50 most influential people in the world of finance.

This is indeed a feather in the cap of the West Bengal Chief Minister who is trying hard to bring the poor economic condition in the state back on wheels. The previous government in the state ruined the economy compelling many industries and business houses to migrate to other states. After coming to power Ms. Mamata Banerjee took the initiative to interact with business community and financial institutions.

Chief Minister took an initiative in this direction and met the business community in Delhi during `Bengal Shining`, a seminar organized to observe the `West Bengal Day` at 31st India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Ms. Mamata Banerjee on this occasion had an interaction session with the India Inc. and requested them to invest in West Bengal. Interestingly it is after several years that Bengal partnered with the ITP`s trade fair. At the `Bengal Shining` in Delhi the Chief Minister requested the business fraternity to attend the `Rising Bengal Summit` in Kolkata during January, 2012.

The Bloomberg magazine said, `Mamata Banerjee CHIEF MINISTER West Bengal Her Trinamool Congress party, part of the ruling coalition, has stalled Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's economic reform agenda by opposing foreign retailers. Banerjee, 57, won a landslide in West Bengal in 2011 to end 34 years of communist rule.`

`The interesting thing is that this is Bloomberg, previously it was The Times magazine. So, it is now a trend as global media fraternity is keen to know about Mamatadi's next plan of action and latest on the development in Bengal`, said Trinamool Congress MP Mr. Derek O'Brien in a telephonic interview to a news channel.

The magazine has five-categories – Corporate Power Brokers, Money Managers, Policy Makers, Thinkers and Bankers. The name of the West Bengal Chief Minister was mentioned in the ` Policy Makers` category.
