WB Govt to celebrate 14 March as Krishak Divas

The West Bengal Government has decided to celebrate 14 March as Krishak Divas.
On 14 March, 2007, 14 innocent farmers and their families were shot to death by the then Left Government after they protested against forced acquisition of their farm lands. The movement against forced land acquisition that started on 7 January 2007 in Nadigram took to Left Government-led violent interference on 14 March. The peaceful movement was fired upon leading to the worst Government-sponsored massacre of innocent lives.
After Trinamool Government took over, West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee has taken numerous steps to ensure the rights of the farmers and achieved numerous developmental feats in agricultural sector. The State has also also been giving Krishak Ratna award to achieving farmers.
The Krishak Divas on 14 March will be observed at Nandigram. MP Suvendu Adhikari and State Ministers, Partha Chatterjee and Firhad Hakim are expected to be present on the occasion
