WB CM to honour doctors and nurses with `Swasthya Puraskar`

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee will hand over awards to around thirty doctors and nurses from various state-run hospitals for their remarkable performance. A total of around 144 doctors and nurses will be awarded. The award ceremony, scheduled to be held on December 6, 2013, was postponed due to national mourning after the death of world leader Nelson Mandela and will be held in later this month.

The selected doctors will get a cash award of Rs 50,000, while the nurses will get Rs 25,000. Certificate of honour will be presented to each of the awardees.

Health Department sources said the awardees have been selected based on their performance, attendance and professional integrity. Special emphasis was given to doctors who performed critical surgeries in the district, sub-divisional and block hospitals.

The awardees include several medical professionals posted in the Maoist-hit areas as they work in adverse conditions.
