WB CM appoints GoM to formulate jute policy

The state government will formulate a jute policy and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has designated a group of ministers (GOM) to formulate the policy.

The group of ministers include state Finance Minister Amit Mitra, state Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Subrata Mukherjee, Agriculture Minister Purnendu Bose and the state Labour Minister Moloy Ghatak.

The ministers held a meeting at Assembly to formulate a draft policy within 15 days which includes the demands of the workers, possible business in jute industry.

It was decided that the GOM should talk with the owners of some prominent jute mills before formulating the draft policy. It was also decided at the meeting that the state government should make use of gunny bag mandatory for carrying paddy, rice and potatoes.

The ministers deliberated on diversification of jute products and decided on requesting the Centre to increase the use of gunny bags for sugar and other food grains.
