Saugata Roy, on February 13, 2023 in the Lok Sabha, as a Matter of Urgent Public Importance, urged the Union government to release the Rs 7,300 crore due to Bengal under MGNREGA
Thank you, Sir. On the last day of this Session, I again repeat my demand for releasing the funds of MGNREGS to West Bengal. Rs. 7,300 crore are still due from the Central Government to West Bengal, and without this money you can imagine the poorest of the poor — the daily labour –are suffering like anything. I have made a plea here; we met the Rural Development Minister; and our Panchayat Minister met him, but the Finance Minister has been cruel to deny us this money on the ground of some technical certificate from the AG. The total due of West Bengal from the Centre is over Rs. 1 lakh crore. With your blessings, I again demand from the Finance Minister to give up her cruelty and release this fund for the poorest of poor, and Rs. 7,300 crore should be immediately released to West Bengal on account of MGNREGS.
