Santanu Sen’s supplementary question during Question Hour on the number of states and districts having functional sanitary napkin vending machines and the details on their quality audits
Sir, the data shown by National Family Health Survey is really very alarming. It shows that till date, twenty-seven per cent of young rural women need to resort to the unsanitary process of protection during the menstrual cycle. And seventy-one per cent of women are hardly having any experience regarding the menstruation till they face the first menstrual cycle. There is a gross disparity, so far as the awareness is concerned, amongst the rural population and the urban population. In our State of West Bengal, our Government has taken several measures. Through you, my humble submission to my hon. Minister is: How many states and districts have functional sanitary napkin disposal machines? When was the last audit of quality and quantity of such machines done?
