Pous Utsav to be inaugurated on December 24, to be grander

The state government announced on Monday a week-long Pous Utsav that will unleash a sumptuous fare of pithey and payesh. In its second year, the utsav will be extended from one to two venues.
The Principal Secretary of Information & Broadcasting Ministry, Atri Bhattacharya said Pous Utsav started in 2013 under guidance of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Two venues
“Last year, the festival was organised in a small way and from this year we have plans to organise the festival in a big way. This year the Pous Utsav will be organised from December 24 to December 31. Unlike last year, the festival will be organised at two places – Princep Memorial and Mohar Kunja,” Bhattacharya said.
“The main aim of the festival is to bring city-based youths closer to the roots and to showcase West Bengal’s culture and tradition,” Bhattacharya said. The venues will be open from 11 AM to 9 PM on all days of the festival.
Highlighting Bengali culture
Various stalls will be put up where various products from micro, small and medium industries will be displayed for sale. Similarly, visitors to the festival will get to buy garments and products made by self-help groups (SHGs).
In addition, a number of food stalls will be present at both venues to cater to visitors. The cultural programmes will be organised. Bands, modern Bengali songs, recitation, folk music, folk dance will be performed during the week-long festival.
