KOTRA opens Kolkata office opening doors for more South Korean investment
Investment opportunities in Bengal got a new fillip in the form of KOTRA, or Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, whose office in Kolkata was recently inaugurated by the state’s finance minister, Dr Amit Mitra.
Being very strong in the shipbuilding sector, Dr Mitra urged South Korean companies to collaborate in the ports coming up in Tajpur and Sagar, for which the State Government is collaborating with the Central Government. He also urged KOTRA to explore investment opportunities in the electronics manufacturing parks in the state. One is in Sonarpur and two more are coming up – in Falta and Naihati.
A senior official of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation said it will work together with KOTRA to identify projects where South Korean companies can invest.
South Korea will be the partner country in the 2018 Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS). Korea has been participating in BGBS since its inception in 2015.
বাড়বে কর্মসংস্থান, শহরে পা রাখল KOTRA
কোরিয়া ট্রেড ইনভেস্টমেন্ট প্রোমোশন এজেন্সি বা KOTRA তাদের পঞ্চম দপ্তর খুলতে চলেছে। কলকাতায় পা রাখল এই সংস্থা। ৮৬টি দেশে মোট ১২৭টি দপ্তর রয়েছে কোটরার। এর ফলে পশ্চিমবঙ্গে শিল্পক্ষেত্রে নতুন ভাবে কর্মসংস্থানের সুযোগ তৈরি হবে বলে মত বিশেষজ্ঞদের।
সংস্থার ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট বলেন, ‘কলকাতায় কোটরার দপ্তর খোলায় পূর্ব ও উত্তর-পূর্ব ভারতের সঙ্গে যৌথভাবে এগোতে পারবে কোটরা। অনেক ভাবনাচিন্তার পর এই সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে। পূর্ব ভারতের এই বিরাট অঞ্চল দারুণ সম্ভাবনাময়। কলকাতায় দপ্তর খোলা প্রথম পদক্ষেপ। আমরা আশা করব পশ্চিমবঙ্গ-সহ উত্তরপূর্বের সমস্ত রাজ্য মিলে এক সঙ্গে কাজ করে এগিয়ে যেতে পারব।’
রাজ্যের অর্থমন্ত্রী এ ব্যাপারে আশা প্রকাশ করেছেন। তিনি বলেন, ‘এক সময় কোরিয়া এবং ভারতের পার ক্যাপিটা আয় প্রায় একই ছিল। কিন্তু আজ কোরিয়ায় সেই আয় পৌঁছে গিয়েছে ৩৬,৭০০ মার্কিন ডলারে। কোরিয়া দেখিয়েছে কী ভাবে অর্থনৈতিক উন্নয়ন ঘটানো যায়। এক সময় কোরিয়াকে টাইগার ইকনমি বলা হত। আমি একে মির্যাটকল ইকনমি বলি। আমরা অত্যন্ত আনন্দিত যে কোটরা পশ্চিমবঙ্গের নিজেদের দপ্তর খুলতে আগ্রহী হয়েছে। আশা করি ভবিষ্যতে আমরা এক সঙ্গে এগোতে পারব।’
