Madam, we had requested the Government of India to change the name of the State of West Bengal to Bangla. This has been pending since 2016. The West Bengal Legislative Assembly has taken a unanimous Resolution that if, say, the name of Orissa can be changed to Odisha, we are … Simultaneously, we have been agitating for inclusion of Bangla as a classical language. We have taken a Resolution on this score and we have submitted a four-volume research paper to the Government of India on this subject. We ask for consideration of the details submitted thereon to establish the antiquity of the language of Bangla in syntax, in grammar and largely in alphabet from the 4th century B.C. It is our humble submission that our case to include Bangla as a classical language be considered positively
