Grand tourism project along the river Ganga to be launched soon

The West Bengal Government is planning to boosttourism along the river Ganga in a grand way. The Government plans to invest Rs100 Crore in the next three years for this project through private investment.The state transport department will hand over the maintenance of the riverjetties to private bodies, mostly nationalized organizations.

The232 km ride from Nabadwip to Gangasagar will attract a lot of tourists, feelofficials. The stretch of Ganga has a number of religious centres as well as historicalplaces – Nabadwip, Gangasagar, Halisahar, Dakshineshwar, Bandel, Chandannagar,Barrackpore among other tourism sites.

Sixtyghats and twenty four jetties have been initially identified for renovation.New jetties will be set up in the rest of the 36 ghats. Passenger safety willbe the prime focus in all the jetties. Most of the ghats in South 24 Parganas Districthave ferry services. Passenger safety will be beefed up in these places.
