Google eyes Bengal digital space
Internet search and software giant Google has evinced interest in West Bengal for digitisation of the State Government’s projects. Google India MD Rajan Anandan has also expressed his desire to meet new state IT minister Bratya Basu next week.
A delegation comprising representatives from Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCC&I), Oracle, Capgemini, IBM, Vodafone and Presidency University had also met the minister on Tuesday to discuss the development of IT-based businesses in the State.
A BCC&I official has informed the state IT minister about Google’s intention to carry out all the digitisation work related to the State Government’s projects. It may be noted that during the first Mamata Banerjee government, West Bengal had scored big on the e-governance front.
Google India, in collaboration with Tata Trusts, had recently announced the launch of the ‘Internet Saathi’ programme in West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Tripura to overcome the digital gender disparity in rural India and empower rural women and communities in the field of digital literacy.
Since the launch of this initiative, Google has directly trained over 1.5 million women on the basics of internet. In order to drive a broader access and continuity in usage after the training, internet-enabled devices like tablets and smartphones are placed the school premises, community centres, meeting places for self-help groups, agriculture centres, public health centres (PHCs), etc. for optimum exposure and learning amongst communities.
BCC&I has also invited Bratya Basu to its Annual Business IT Conclave.
রাজ্যে লগ্নীতে আগ্রহী গুগল
রাজ্য সরকারের যেসব প্রকল্প রয়েছে সেগুলি ডিজিটাইজেশন করতে আগ্রহী গুগল। রাজ্যকে প্রিমিয়ার আইটি ডেসটিনেশন হিসাবে গড়ে তুলতে চাইছে গুগলের কর্ণধাররা। গুগলের স্বতঃপ্রণোদিত এই উদ্যোগ রাজ্যের যে রাজ্যের মুকুটে এক নতুন পালক সংযোজন করেছে তা আর বলার অপেক্ষা রাখে না।
আগামী সপ্তাহে তথ্যপ্রযুক্তি দফতরের মন্ত্রী ব্রাত্য বসুর সঙ্গেও দেখা করার জন্য উৎসাহী সংস্থার ম্যানেজিং ডাইরেক্টর তথা দক্ষিণ পূর্ব এশিয়ার বাণিজ্যিক বিভাগের মুখপত্র রাজন আনন্দন।
গত মঙ্গলবার বেঙ্গল চেয়ার অফ কমার্সের প্রতিনিধি দলের সঙ্গে বৈঠক করেন ব্রাত্য বসু। এছাড়া এই বৈঠকে ছিলেন ক্যাপজেমিনি, ওরাকেল, আইবিএম, ভোডাফোন, ন্যাসকমের প্রতিনিধিরা।
প্রসঙ্গত, মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের সরকারের প্রথম পাঁচ বছরে ই-গভর্ন্যান্স ক্ষেত্রে রাজ্যের অগ্রগতি যথেষ্ট তারিফযোগ্য। দপ্তরের এক আধিকারিকের কথায়, এই কাজে গুগল এগিয়ে এলে ই-গভর্ন্যান্স পঞ্চায়েত স্তর পর্যন্ত ছড়িয়ে দেওয়া যাবে।
গুগল ইন্ডিয়া টাটা ট্রাস্টের সঙ্গে যৌথ উদ্যোগে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ, আসাম, উত্তর প্রদেশ ও ত্রিপুরায় ‘ইন্টারনেট সাথী’ নামে একটি প্রকল্প চালু করেছে যার উদ্দেশ্য হল বাংলার গ্রামাঞ্চলে বসবাসকারী মহিলাদের ডিজিটাল ক্ষেত্রে সাক্ষর করা।
এখনও পর্যন্ত গ্রামাঞ্চলে বসবাসকারী প্রায় ১৫ লক্ষ মহিলাকে প্রাথমিক ইন্টারনেট শিক্ষা দেওয়া হয়েছে। পরবর্তীকালে এই প্রশিক্ষণ তাদের কর্মসংস্থানে অনেক সাহায্য করবে।
বিসিসিআই তাদের অ্যানুয়াল বিজনেস আইটি কনক্লেভে ব্রাত্য বসু আমন্ত্রণ জানিয়েছে।
