CPM training Maoists: Didi

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Sunday accused CPM of “systematically training” Maoists for years to eliminate Trinamool supporters. Calling the CPM the “real birth givers of Maoists” in Bengal, Mamata challenged the ruling party to take her to court if she was lying. “Look at our history from Keshpur to Garbeta and you will know how the Maoists came into being here,” she said at a public meeting at Sonarpur, her first this year. Giving her war cry of “CPM tumi jai koro, meyad tomar oi egaro (CPM, how much you try, you are here till only 2011)”, the Trinamool chief blamed the ruling party for creating an era of contract labourers, where no matter how many years someone put in, they are never made a permanent employee. “I know Sonarpur well because it is linked to my political career. I am grateful to the people here for making me who I am. I know that a large number of contractual government employees live here, who have not been made permanent employees even after many years,” she said, urging people to start protest movements against the “irresponsible government”. Sonarpur was part of Mamata’s Lok Sabha constituency until it was subtracted in 2009 as a result of delimitation. She contested the claim that the railways was partly to blame for the rise in prices of essential commodities. “I have not hiked passenger fares in the past five years. There is no point making false allegations. The state government has gone bankrupt, it cannot function without Centre sending money and assistance,” she said.
