Chief Minister takes tour of Central Kolkata, checks security measures during festivities
The people West Bengal have got an extra reason to celebrate for the last 2 and half years. And that is because of Didi; Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister of the state. And she is different from all her predecessors, even from the other politicians who hold this responsible post in other states.
One does not really expect a Chief Minister to come down from her car and mingle with the crowd. Didi does just that. We have seen her sipping cups of tea at village households; we have seen her taking ride on the pillion of a bike at places where cars cannot reach or gift lift to a stranded passenger during thundershowers.
This Chief Minister always makes it a point to inquire about problems people are facing, and sort it out instantly. That happened yesterday morning at Nabanna.
While returning from Nabanna last evening, the Chief Minister took a tour of the Princep Ghat, rode along the Strand Road, stopped at the venue of Pous Utsab celebrations, being held for the first time in Kolkata, went to Park Street to check if the Christmas Festival is going on safely and securely and took a tour of Chowringhee Road. She pointed out the things that ought to be changed and took instant decisions regarding what needs to be done.
The city that needed care has finally got a Chief Minister who knows how to care.
মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর উদ্যোগে ইতিমধ্যেই বড়দিনের আগে সেজেছে শহর। পার্ক স্ট্রিট থেকে প্রিন্সেপ ঘাট, চৌরঙ্গী থেকে স্ট্র্যান্ড রোড— আলোয় ঝলমলে কলকাতা। চলছে নানা উৎসবও। সেই উৎসবের আমেজ দেখতেই সোমবার সন্ধ্যায় নবান্ন থেকে বাড়ি ফেরার আগে শহর ঘুরে দেখলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। ঘুরে দেখলেন স্ট্র্যান্ড রোড থেকে প্রিন্সেপ ঘাট, পার্ক স্ট্রিট, চৌরঙ্গী। সোমবার সন্ধ্যায় তাঁর কালীঘাটের বাড়িতে ফেরার পথে শুধু ঘুরে দেখাই নয়, কয়েকটি ছোটখাটো অসঙ্গতি দেখে সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট দফতরকে প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ারও নির্দেশ দেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।
এ দিন সন্ধ্যায় নবান্ন থেকে সোজা স্ট্র্যান্ড রোড ধরে মমতা চলে আসেন প্রিন্সেপ মেমোরিয়ালে। আলো-ঝলমলে প্রিন্সেপ মেমোরিয়ালে চলছে পৌষ উৎসব। হঠাৎ করে সেখানে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীকে দেখে আপ্লুত হয়ে পড়েন উৎসবে অংশগ্রহণকারী সাধারণ মানুষ। ভিড় জমে যায়।
স্ট্র্যান্ড রোডের গঙ্গাতীর থেকে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী এর পরে সোজা চলে যান পার্ক স্ট্রিট। বড়দিনের আগে যথারীতি সেজে উঠেছে `ফুড স্ট্রিট`। চলছে নানা ধরনের উৎসব। ফুটপাথের বিভিন্ন স্টলে জমিয়ে চলছে বিকিকিনি। পার্ক স্ট্রিট চত্বর থেকে চৌরঙ্গী ঘোরার সময় তাঁর নজরে আসে আশপাশ আলোয় ঝলমল করলেও পুলিশ মেমোরিয়ালে আলো নেই। কেন ওই মেমোরিয়ালে আলো লাগানো হয়নি, তা জানতে চেয়ে ফের মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর ফোন যায় পুলিশ কমিশনারের কাছে। দেওয়া হয় দ্রুত ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ার নির্দেশও।
