Chief Minister pay tributes to BC Roy, lashes out at Left for false propaganda

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee pays tributes to Dr. Bidhan Chnadra Roy at Assembly House to commemorate the 130th birth anniversary which falls on Sunday (July 1, 2012). The day was celebrated two-days prior owing to holiday on Sunday.

However, the Left Front which has no other agenda but exploring ways to malign the reputation of Ms. Mamata Banerjee since yesterday was planning to create a scene out of the issue and finally had decided to stage a walkout in protest. The members of the Left Front declared that they would stay away from the birthday celebrations, which chief minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to attend. The statement in this context given by the leader of opposition in the Assembly House carried a few `remarks` which was a reflection of their low taste and intellect.

Chief Minister Ms. Banerjee reacting to this said that she was surprised to hear such criticism from someone who had never bothered to observe these days and during the past 34-years the state had never seen these big people being garlanded or honoured on their birth and death anniversary respectively. She reiterated her stand and requested the people to observe these days as the country men owe this to them. `I feel these people are above any political affiliation and that we all owe this much respect to them, I do not approve some political parties trying to show their apathy over the nature of party preferences. I feel they all have made the country proud and they deserve the respects`, said Chief Minsiter.

`I would lie to make things very clear that by celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr. BC Roy does not at all mean that we will not celebrate his birthday on actual day or trying to shrug off our responsibility. On the contrary we decided to celebrate today as the Assembly House will remain close on Saturday and Sunday`, said Ms. Banerjee. The Chief Minister said that we are indebted to the contribution of Dr. Roy and we will alwys remember the great man for whatever he has done for Bengal. `I want to reiterate that we not only show respects when we observe these days but at the same time recall their contributions and express our gratitude`.
