Bengal Govt’s latest weapon to fight cybercrimes: Blockchain technology
To combat cybercrimes, the Bengal Government is planning to employ one of the latest weapons out there – blockchain technology. The government is thinking of bringing this technology for storing land records, among other things.
A blockchain is a continuously growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptography.
According to the additional chief secretary, Information Technology Department, the data centres at the state and national levels are prone to cyber attacks. Using blockchain technology to encrypt the data is very safe as the database is shared in lakhs of computers at the same time, and so, hacking of a single computer will not affect the data.
He further said that the Cyber Security Centre of Excellence that will start its operations by December at Rajarhat-Newtown will bring the best in the academic, law enforcement and other fields one roof for enabling the best practices to reduce cyber crimes.
The centre will also cater to research and development (R&D) for which the government will partner with private firms.
The government also plans to make people aware about the threats cybercrimes pose and the precautions that need to be taken through partnership programmes with the IITs, IIMs, ISIs and other institutes of national and international renown.
সাইবার অপরাধ রুখতে এবার ‘ব্লক চেন টেকনোলজি’
ক্রমাগত বেড়ে ওঠা সাইবার অপরাধ রুখতে নয়া তৎপরতা নিল রাজ্য তথ্য প্রযুক্তি দপ্তর। এজন্য রাজ্য সরকার উৎসাহিত করছে নতুন ‘ডেটা বেস’ ‘ব্লক চেন টেকনোলজি’র ব্যবহার।
ডিসেম্বর মাস থেকেই রাজারহাট ও সল্টলেক সেক্টর ৫ থেকেই ‘ব্লক চেন টেকনোলজি’ ব্যবহার করবে রাজ্য সরকারের নতুন সংস্থা ‘সাইবার সিকিউরিটি সেন্টার অফ এক্সসেলেন্স’।
‘ব্লক চেন টেকনোলজি’ যেহেতু নতুন ডেটাবেস তাই শুধু সুরক্ষাই নয় বরং নতুন প্রতিভাধর যুব সম্প্রদায়ের কাছে নয়া কর্ম ক্ষেত্রের দিশা খুলে যাবে।
তথ্য প্রযুক্তি দপ্তরের প্রধান সচিব বলেন, ‘ব্লক চেন টেকনোলজি এমন একটি ডেটাবেস যাতে একবার কোনও একটি তথ্য এন্ট্রি করলে তা পরিবর্তন করা যায় না। যদি কেউ করে থাকে তাহলে একসঙ্গে লক্ষাধিক কম্পিউটারে সেই পরিবর্তন দেখা যাবে। তাই, সব দিক থেকে এটি সুরক্ষিত।’
উদাহরণস্বরূপ, তিনি বলেন, জমি নথিভুক্তকরণের ক্ষেত্রেও এই প্রযুক্তি ব্যবহারের কথা ভাবা হচ্ছে। যাতে কেউ এক জমি একাধিকবার বিক্রয় না করতে পারেন। ইতিমধ্যেই বেশ কিছু শপিং মল ও বিদেশী ব্যাঙ্কে এই প্রযুক্তি চালু হয়েছে।
তবে এই প্রযুক্তি ব্যাবহারের জন্য সতর্ক থাকতে হবে বিভিন্ন জায়গায় ওয়াই ফাই ব্যবহারের ওপর। তাই, ‘ডিজিটাল পেমেন্ট সিকিউরিটি অ্যাওয়্যারনেস’ কোর্স চালু করা হচ্ছে।
