Bengal Govt initiates various projects to make rural Bengal self reliant
The various projects taken up by the Panchayat and Rural development department to make rural populace self reliant is likely to change the economic scenario of rural Bengal in the next couple of years, one of them being fruit orchard farming.
Fruit orchard farming has brought financial stability to many families in many districts. Griha Samriddhi was an initiative of Nadia district by which the ‘Kool’ orchard farming was started.
As the ‘Kool’ orchard farming was found to be highly profitable, people with small agricultural lands have been inspired to such types of cultivation. Krishnaganj block is situated on the bank of three rivers, Ichhamati, Churni and Mathabhanga and so the land is very fertile.
The marginal farmers took interest in orchard cultivation and decided to grow varities of Kool. The farmers sold their produce at Majdia market which is situated close to Majdia railway station.
It was found that orchard cultivation can bring an additional income varying anything between Rs 20,000 and Rs 40,000 per family in a year.
It has helped 2400 families. A total of 3,74,990 saplings were planted on 1,339 bigha of land. The unskilled man days generated is 2,83,921.

গ্রাম বাংলার অর্থনৈতিক পরিস্থিতি পরিবর্তন করার জন্য ও জনসাধারণকে স্বনির্ভর করতে রাজ্যের পঞ্চায়েত ও গ্রামন্নয়ন বিভাগ বেশ কিছু প্রকল্প গ্রহণ করেছে, তার মধ্যে একটি হল ফলের বাগান চাষ।
ফলের বাগান চাষ অনেক জেলায় অনেক পরিবারকে আর্থিক স্থিতিশীলতা দিয়েছে। নদিয়া জেলায় কুলের বাগান চাষ শুরু করার জন্য ‘গৃহ সমৃদ্ধি’ একটি নতুন উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছিল।
যেহেতু ফলের বাগান চাষ অত্যন্ত লাভজনক তাই ছোট ছোট জমির মালিকরা এই ধরনের চাষে অনুপ্রাণিত হয়েছেন। কৃষ্ণগঞ্জ ব্লক ইছামতি, চূর্ণী এবং মাথাভাঙ্গা এই তিনটি নদীর তীরে অবস্থিত। তাই এই এলাকার জমি খুব উর্বর।
কৃষকরা বর্তমানে ফলের বাগান চাষের আগ্রহী এবং তারা সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন বিভিন্ন ধরনের কুল চাষের। কৃষকরা তাদের উৎপাদিত পণ্য মাজদিয়া রেল স্টেশনের কাছাকছি অবস্থিত মাজদিয়া বাজারে বিক্রি করেন।
দেখা গেছে ফলের বাগান চাষ প্রতি পরিবার পিছু বার্ষিক আয় ২০,০০০ টাকা থেকে ৪০,০০০ টাকা বাড়িয়ে দিয়েছে।
২৪০০টি পরিবার এর মাধ্যমে উপকৃত হবেন। ১,৩৩৯ বিঘা জমির ওপর প্রায় ৩,৭৪,৯৯০টি চারা গাছ লাগানো হয়েছে।
