Adequate arrangements made for Chhat Puja in Kolkata
Kolkata Police made elaborate traffic arrangements to ensure that devotees can safely reach the ghats of river Hooghly to perform their rituals on the day of Chhat Puja.
Movement of non-motorised vehicles is being temporarily suspended on all the arterial roads including Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Government Place East, Gostha Pal Sarani, Government Place West, Kshudiram Bose Road, Strand Road, Nimtala Ghat Street, Bagbazar Street, Mullick Ghat Street, Jagannath Ghat Street, Dai Ghat, Beadon Street, Strand Bank Road, B K Paul Avenue, Ahiritala Street, Sovabazar Street and G S Bose Road.
There is restriction on the of plying of goods vehicles in and around Victoria Memorial Hall, that is, on a stretch of AJC Bose Road between DL Khan Road to Cathedral Road, Hospital Road, Queen’s Way, Cathedral Road, Casuarina Avenue and Lovers’ Lane.
Similarly, plying of goods vehicles apart from those for Chhat Puja is restricted in the city from 12 noon to 10 PM on October 26 and from 3 AM to 10 AM on October 27.
Special arrangements have been made for parking. Parking of vehicles is not allowed from 12 noon to 8 PM on October 26 and again from 3 AM to 10 AM on October 27 on thoroughfares including Dufferin Road, Beadon Street, Esplanade Row West, Esplanade Row East, Mayo Road, King’s Way, Auckland Road, Kidderpore Road and Nimtala Ghat Street.
Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the Chhat Puja at Dahi Ghat in Khidderpore.

- This ghat is in no way less than the conditions of Bihar’s ghats. It is much improved now. The conditions of the roads leading to the ghat and the lights there have been renovated.
- We have given a holiday for Chhat Puja.
- There is no need to rush. Please maintain order.
- I wish Lalu Yadav the best on the occasion of Chhat.
- This land of ours is holy land. We are all one.
- The festival of Chhat attains meaning when everyone participates together in the spirit of unity.
- Unity and harmony is the Bengalis’ heritage. Sarva Dharma Samanway is the culture of our country.
- People follow different reigions, have different food habits, but we are all essentially one.
ছট পুজোর জন্য তৈরী কলকাতা
ছট পুজোর দিন যাতে মানুষ নির্বিঘ্নে হুগলী নদীর ঘাটে নির্বিঘ্নে পুজোর আচার-অনুষ্ঠান পালন করতে পারেন, তার জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় সমস্ত ব্যবস্থা নিল কলকাতা পুলিশ।
ছট পুজো উপলক্ষে যে সকল রাস্তায় মোটর-রোহিত যান চলাচল সাময়িক ভাবে বন্ধ করা হবেঃ-

এই রাস্তাগুলি ছাড়াও শহরে পণ্যবাহী যানের গতিবিধি বন্ধ থাকবে ২৬ তারিখ দুপুর ১২ টা থেকে রাত ১০ টা পর্যন্ত এবং ২৭ তারিখ ভোর ৩ টে থেকে সকাল ১০ টা পর্যন্ত।
পার্কিং-এর জন্যও উপযুক্ত ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হয়েছে। ২৬ তারিখ দুপুর ১২ টা থেকে রাত ৮ টা পর্যন্ত এবং ২৭ তারিখ ভোর ৩ টে থেকে সকাল ১০ টা পর্যন্ত এই রাস্তাগুলিতে পার্কিং করা যাবে না.
আজ খিদিরপুরের দইঘাটে ছট পুজোর উদ্বোধন করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। সকলকে ছট পুজোর শুভেচ্ছা জানিয়ে সেখানে বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে তিনি বলেন, “ছট পুজো আমাদেরও উৎসব, আমরা এই পুজোয় আমরা সকলে একসাথে সামিল হই। এটা আমদের পরম্পরা। লালু প্রসাদ যাদবকে ফোন করে ছট পুজোর শুভেচ্ছা জানিয়েছি”।
তিনি আরও বলেন, “ছট পুজোয় দু দিন ছুটি দেওয়া হয়েছে।আমাদের সরকার ঘাটগুলিকে সুন্দরভাবে সাজিয়েছি, সংস্কার করেছি। সেখানে আলো রাস্তা সব আছে। যাতে মানুষের পুজো করতে কোন সমস্যা না হয়”।
তিনি সকলকে আবেদন জানান, তাড়াহুড়ো না করে আস্তে আস্তে ঘাটে নেমে সাবধানে পুজো করার।
তাঁর কথায়, “আমরা চাই সকলে ভালো থাকুক। যখন সকলে একসাথে সকলে কাজ করেন তখনই সেই উৎসব পূর্ণ হয়। সব উৎসব আমাদের সবার। বাংলায় সব ধর্মের মানুষ একসাথে সম্মানের সঙ্গে থাকে এটাই বাংলার পরম্পরা। মানুষের বিভিন্ন নাম, ভিন্ন ধর্ম, ভিন্ন পোশাক, তাদের খাদ্যাভ্যাস বিভিন্ন, কিন্তু সকলে এক, সকলেই মানুষ”।
