Saugata Roy asks Supplementary Questions on bio-geochemical changes in the Arabian Sea
Supplementary Question 1
Madam, I am thankful to the Hon Minister; he has given a detailed reply to the studies being done in Western Arabian Sea with regard to the bio-geochemical changes. It is true that this bio-geological changes these are very important for the lives of fishes and nutrients which go from the land. They feed the phytoplanktons which in turn feed the fish.
Madam, the Government has imposed a ban on trawling during the monsoon. I would like to know from him what effect this ban on fishing trawlers during the monsoon has had on the improvement of the bio-geochemical things of the sea. Has any research been conducted on that?
Supplementary Question 2
My second Supplementary Question. The evolution of phytoplanktons, and other nutrients for the fish, depend on a thing called upoiline, which is the rise in the level of the sea. Now, the Minister has said that human interventions have had no impact on this except in and around the city of Mumbai.
The Supreme Court has already initiated the Coastal Regulation Zone; they prohibited any construction within 500 m of the sea coast. There is also the problem of climate change and global warming on the rising level of the sea.
May I ask the Hon Minister whether he is considering any change in the CRZ requirements, so that the spoiling of the Sea’s natural situation is prevented by human actions.
