Bengal second in India in reducing Infant Mortality Rate
Bengal has done it again. After winning the top award in 2016, the state has bagged second place for the highest reduction in infant mortality rate (IMR) among all the states in the country in 2017.
This was announced at the National Summit on Best Practices and Innovations in Public Health Care Systems.
Infant mortality rate is the number of deaths per thousand children less than one-year-old. The IMR in 2011 was alarming – 32. In six years, the Mamata Banerjee-headed State Health Department has been able to reduce that to 26. This figure is according to the latest Sample Registration Survey (SRS) report brought out in December 2016.
This is a significant achievement, as the State has continued to maintain low IMR, considering the fact that the national rate still stands at 37.

শিশু মৃত্যুর হার কমিয়ে আবারও দ্বিতীয় স্থানে বাংলা
সদ্যোজাত শিশু মৃত্যুর হার নূন্যতম করে আরও একবার পুরস্কার পেল বাংলা। গত বছরের পর এই নিয়ে দ্বিতীয়বার এই স্বীকৃতি পেল মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের সরকার। এবার দ্বিতীয় স্থানে বাংলা।
পাবলিক হেলথ কেয়ার সিস্টেম এর সর্বোত্তম চর্চা ও উদ্ভাবন সংক্রান্ত জাতীয় সম্মেলনে বাংলাকে পুরস্কৃত করার কথা ঘোষণা করা হয়েছে।
২০১৬ সালের পর এবছরও বাংলায় সদ্যোজাত শিশু মৃত্যুর হার কমেছে। ২০১১ সালে এই মৃত্যুর হার ছিল ৩২। সর্বশেষ এসআরএস রিপোর্ট অনুযায়ী, বাংলায় এই মৃত্যুর হার কমে হয়েছে ২৬।
