Bengal CM pulls the rope on the occasion of ‘Ulto Rath’
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday inaugurated the ‘Ulto Rath’ yatra near the TA ground on the Maidan. She pulled the rath of Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra, to start the gods’ journey back to their in-laws, in this case the Albert Road temple of ISKCON.
The Chief Minister has traditionally pulled the rath organised by ISKCON on the day of Rath Yatra itself. But this year she was in the Netherlands to participate in the United Nations Public Service Awards ceremony, where West Bengal got the first prize for the Kanyashree Scheme.
As if to welcome her back, the gods too smiled and the rain stopped as she pulled the rath on its journey back, along with thousands of other devotees.
Her participation in the festival was posted by her on Facebook too, where she wished everyone well on the occasion.

ইসকনে উল্টোরথের সূচনা করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী
সোমবার ময়দানে ইস্কনের রথের রশিতে টান দিয়ে উল্টোরথের সূচনা করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা ব্যানার্জি। প্রথমে জগন্নাথদেবের আরতি করেন তিনি। এর পর প্রথা মেনে রথের রশিতে টান দেন মু্খ্যমন্ত্রী।
প্রতি বছর মুখ্যমন্ত্রী রথ টেনে রথযাত্রার উদ্বোধন করেন। কিন্তু এ’বছর নেদারল্যান্ডসে রাষ্ট্রসংঘের সম্মেলনে যোগ দিতে যাওয়ায় (যেখানে তিনি পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকারের তরফ থেকে কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্পের জন্য পুরষ্কার গ্রহন করেন) তিনি রথ যাত্রার উদ্বোধন করতে পারেননি।
এ’দিন তিনি ফেসবুকে রাজ্যবাসীকে উল্টোরথের শুভেচ্ছা জানান।
