GPS-enabled waste management machines & vehicles in Newtown soon
For the first time in the state, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has decided that all vehicles used for solid waste management including compactors, sweeping of roads including mechanical road sweeping machines will be brought under the GPS-enabled Vehicle Tracking System (VTS).
The step has been taken to bring efficiency in civic services and monitor solid waste management and road sweeping accurately. The location of the machine is time-logged onto a map and a software generates the distance travelled. The effectiveness of sweeping is thus tracked accurately in real time from a computer at the office of the engineer concerned.
As New Town is coming up as a green city, proper monitoring of cleaning and sweeping of the roads and its solid waste management is absolutely necessary. Several steps have already been taken to recycle waste water and use the same for watering plants used for beautification of the area. This apart, even streetlights will be replaced by LED lights in phases.

নিউ টাউন কলকাতা ডেভেলপমেন্ট অথরিটি সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে যে অঞ্চলের প্রতিটি কম্প্যাক্টর, রাস্তাঘাট পরিষ্কার করার বিভিন্ন মেশিন সহ যেসব গাড়ি জঞ্জাল সংগ্রহ করার কাজে ব্যবহৃত হয় সেগুলিতে জিপিএস বসানো হবে।
এই জিপিএস বসানোর ফলে ম্যাপে মেশিন ও গাড়িগুলির অবস্থান জানা যাবে এবং একটি সফ্টওয়্যারের মাধ্যমে তাদের গতিবিধির ওপর নজর রাখা যাবে।
যেহেতু নিউটাউনকে গ্রিন সিটি বানানোর উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার তাই পরিচ্ছন্নতার ওপর বিশেষ নজর দেওয়া হচ্ছে। ইতিমধ্যেই বিভিন্ন পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া হয়েছে। ব্যবহার করা জিনিসকে রিসাইকেল করা থেকে শুরু করে নোংরা জলের বিশুদ্ধিকরণ ও সৌন্দর্যায়ন করা হচ্ছে। রাস্তায় এল ই ডি লাইট বসানোর উদ্যোগও নেওয়া হচ্ছে।
