#BengalPolls Trinamool reacts to EC Press Conference
Statement issued by Derek O’Brien, Chief National Spokesperson:
Thank you Election Commission for show causing the Chief Minister.
Before issuing a show cause notice to no less a person than the Chief Minister of the State (and one of India’s most popular political icons), we only wish some very basic due diligence was done. We learnt through the Press Conference that the EC has show caused Mamata Banerjee for her comments made at a rally in Asansol. The apparent reason for the show cause is that she had promised to make Asansol into a new district which was against the EC model code of conduct.
How ludicrous!
The decision to make Asansol, Kalimpong, Basirhat, Sunderbans and Jhargram into different districts was taken up in the West Bengal Cabinet in December 2015, four months ago. It was also discussed in the Assembly. This information is in the public domain and is common knowledge.
The people who registered the complaint don’t have their facts right. They have little or no knowledge of Bengal. They speak without knowing. We are not surprised.
The political bias is obvious. A lot of this is cooked up by the Delhi babus.
Now that they have given wrong facts shouldn’t the EC ask them to clarify? Or apologize?

নির্বাচন কমিশনকে তৃণমূলের জবাব

মুখ্যমন্ত্রীকে শোকজ করার জন্য নির্বাচন কমিশনকে ধন্যবাদ।
স্বয়ং বাংলার মুখ্যমন্ত্রী, যিনি ভারতবর্ষের সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় মানুষদের মধ্যে একজন – তাঁকে শোকজ করার আগে অন্তত সামান্য কিছু সতর্কতা নেওয়া জরুরী ছিল। সাংবাদিক বৈঠক থেকে আমরা জানতে পারি যে নির্বাচন কমিশন মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রীকে শোকজ করেছেন আসানসোলের জনসভায় তাঁর বক্তব্যের জন্য। শোকজের কারণ ছিল যে তিনি একটি নতুন জেলা, আসানসোল, তৈরী করার কথা ঘোষণা করেন, যা ছিল নির্বাচন কমিশনের মডেল কোড অফ কন্ডাক্ট-এর বিরুদ্ধ আচরণ।
কি হাস্যকর এটি!
আসানসোল, কালিম্পং, বসিরহাট, সুন্দরবন এবং ঝাড়গ্রাম – এই নতুন জেলাগুলি তৈরী করার সিদ্ধান্ত চার মাস আগেই নেওয়া হয়েছিল, ডিসেম্বর ২০১৫-এ। বিধানসভাতেও আলোচিত হয়েছিল এটি। গোটা বিষয়টি সকলেরই জানা ছিল কারণ সবই বলা হয়েছিল সর্বসমক্ষে।
যাঁরা এই অভিযোগ জানিয়েছেন, তাঁদের তথ্য ভুলে ভরা। বাংলা সম্বন্ধে তাঁদের কোনো জ্ঞান নেই বললেই চলে। তাঁরা না জেনে বুঝেই কথা বলেন। আর এতে আমরা বিন্দুমাত্র আশ্চর্য নই।
এখানে রাজনৈতিক পক্ষপাত সুস্পষ্ট। এসব কিছুই দিল্লিতে বসে থাকা আমলারা রচনা করেছেন। কিন্তু এখন যখন তাঁরা ভুল তথ্য দিয়ে নির্বাচন কমিশনকে বিভ্রান্ত করেছেন, নির্বাচন কমিশনের উচিত তাঁদের থেকে কৈফিয়ত চাওয়া বা তাঁদেরকে দিয়ে ক্ষমা চাওয়ানো।
