In higher education, the state government is planning to provide 17% reservation to candidates from other backward classes (OBC) in the next six years, Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee posted on her Facebook page on Wednesday.
“In higher education, our target is to provide 17% reservation for OBCs in six years without hitting the general category candidates. We have already achieved 10.6% reservation for OBCs in the very first year of 2014-15,” her Facebook post read.
“Higher education is expanding in Bengal for all. I thought of sharing this with all of you,” the post read.
On June 30, the Chief Minister had announced an investment of Rs 1,000 crore to beef up infrastructure in higher education so that general category students are not affected when reservation for OBCs begin in the state.
“From 2014-15, OBC reservation in higher education will start. We will not touch the general seats but create parallel infrastructure by investing Rs 1,000 crore,” the chief minister had stated at a function to celebrate Hool Divas.
