Five things Mamata Banerjee said at Trinamool workshop

Trinamool Congress Chairperson Ms Mamata Banerjee today addressed the party workers and leaders at a workshop at Netaji Indoor Stadium.

Elected representatives and party workers from across the State attended this workshop where the Chairperson gave the guidelines for the future course of action.

This is the first meeting of the party of this scale after the massive victory in the 2016 Assembly polls.

Here are five things that Mamata Banerjee said at the workshop:

About victory

We extend our gratitude and salutes to Ma Mati Manush for the victory in Assembly polls. Without their support and blessings this was not possible. People have defeated all the slander and the smear campaign. People will never forgive the Opposition. In a democracy, we must accept the verdict of the people with humility.

About Opposition

The manner in which the Opposition parties in Bengal operate, the slander that they engage in, is shameful. For 34 years they destroyed Bengal. They darkened the future of the State. We are working hard for the people. But the Opposition is shaming democracy. We have to fight them politically. Sometimes I wonder if some Opp leaders are fit to be in politics. The CPI(M), the Congress and the BJP have a understanding. They must set their own houses in order before attacking us.

About Centre

BJP has been in power at Centre. Before elections they made a lot of promises. What have they done for Bengal? They made tall promises about tea gardens but they have not fulfilled any. The Centre uses agencies like CBI and ED to target their political Opposition. The BJP only gives speeches but fails to deliver in action. They talk of ‘Make in India’ but are selling the nation. State Govts are doing all the hard work and the Centre is taking away all the credit. We will expose the lies propagated by BJP in Parliament.

About sting operation

A lot of blackmailing is going on in the name of sting operations now. We want the truth about sting operation to come out. We want the conspiracies to be exposed. That is why we have ordered a probe. We want a probe into the income of the Congress, the BJP and the CPI(M) from unknown sources. Trinamool wants state-funded elections. We want electoral reforms.

About party organisation

Trinamool is the party of the people. We have to play a responsible role in public life. We have to assess the Assembly poll results. We must take correctional measures wherever we have not done well. MLAs must conduct a meeting in their constituencies at least once a month. Elected representatives cannot be dissociated from the people. We have to mobilise the students and youth. We need to involve more women in party work.

Reach out to people: Abhishek Banerjee to party workers in Bankura

Party workers have to work hard to promote the message of development. This message of party Chief Mamata Banerjee was conveyed to the workers in Bankura by Trinamool Youth Congress President Abhishek Banerjee on Friday.

Abhishek has begun his district visits where he will be addressing workshops for grassroots workers of the party. While speaking at one such meeting in Barjora, Bankura, TMYC President said: “People will decide who will sit in offices of power. Reach out to people. Work unitedly to serve people.”

He said that the party leadership had knowledge of every action by block and district leadership. He said, “A few people cannot be allowed to bring shame to the party because of their wrong actions.”

Abhishek reiterated that there is no scope for complacency in the party. 2011 elections were fought on the plank of change and 2016 will be fought on the plank of development.

He instructed workers to publicise the developmental initiatives undertaken by West Bengal government in the last four and a half years.  He asked them to go to every village and reach out to people.

AITC Women’s Cell to hold workshops across the State

AITC Chairperson Ms Mamata Banerjee has asked Trinamool Congress Women Cell State President and Chandrima Bhattacharjee to hold workshops of elected Trinamool women representatives in different civic bodies, gram panchayats, panchayat samities, zilla parishads.

She said respective MPs and MLAs would also be present in such workshops. The AITC Women Cell State President said that Trinamool Congress will hold these workshops in all 20 districts along with 18 notional districts. She said it is expected the workshops would be completed by 15 September.

She said that the main objective of these workshops is to create awareness among these women representatives, especially newly elected, about the different state government projects on women and children. She said she would ask the elected people’s representatives to meet the public with humanitarian approach.

The AITC Women Cell State President said: “I will also discuss at length about the women’s property right, right to residence, right to inheritance. They are people’s representatives and they should be aware of the women rights. Only then can they solve such problems in their respective area.”

“We will also make them aware of different government projects related to women and children like Kanyashree, Shikshashree, health care of mother and child, especially pregnant women (Janani Suraksha),” the minister said. Workshops would be held in Singur,Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar in August and Darjeeling plains in August. She would probably hold workshops in Malda, North and South Dinjapur in mid week of August.

“We will explain the function of Sick Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Nicu) and how our government has increased the number of SNCUs and Nicu not only in tertiary hospitals but also at district and sub division levels,” the AITC Women Cell State President said.
