Bangla Govt to develop ‘theme cities’ under PPP model

Bangla is set to develop six ‘theme cities’, covering approximately 50 acres of land in total, on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Bids from private investors are being seeked.

This was announced by the chairman of the development agency, Hidco (who is also the additional principal secretary to the Information Technology and Electronics Department) at a seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Kolkata.

It may be mentioned that New Town near Kolkata, under the stewardship of Hidco, has been developed as the first smart city of the State, and is considered a model worth emulating in the country.

In addition to this, he also said that the construction of the hardware parks in Naihati, Falta and Sonarpur are going on in full swing, and on completion, these would add a new dimension to the IT infrastructure of the State.

Land proposals of 44 small industries cleared by WB Govt

To spruce up the investments, West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee cleared land proposals of 44 small industries at the meeting of the sub-committee related to industries, infrastructure and employment. This gives a clear indication that land clearances are not an obstacle to investments. These industries will be given land on lease for 99 years and since these are labour intensive industries, they will help in the creation of jobs.

The state will allot land for the setting up of industry for making jewellery boxes in Kolkata’s Shashi Bhushan De Street. Besides that, investors may set up their workshops at the Industrial Parks in Parnasree in Behala, Bauriya and Chengail in Howrah, Garulia, Noapara and Shyamnagar in North 24 Parganas, Sector 3 in Bidhan nagar, Agrasen road and Sevak road in Siliguri, Bolpur and Durgapur. The small industries will also be given various incentives and subsidies by the State Government.

The State Government is taking every step to be industry friendly; it has decided that it will form a consortium of several companies for the setting up of smart cities. Several national and international companies are interested in setting up of supporting infrastructure in the smart cities. Keeping that in mind, the State will invite investments in that sector from companies during the London visit while giving special importance to the six planned theme cities.
