North Bengal Sports Council starts funtioning at Siliguri

On the initiative of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the office of the North Bengal Sports Council was inaugurated at Siliguri on Monday by former Team India football skipper Baichung Bhutia.

The setting up of the council was announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her four-day tour of North Bengal tour last week. The primary aim of the council is to promote sports in north Bengal.

The council will also promote games in schools. It may be recalled that in the past itself, the Chief Minister wanted to make sports mandatory in schools

Mr Bhutia will act as a chairman to the council. Former table tennis national champion Mantu Ghosh is the vice-chairman of the council. Man Ghisingh, cricketer Wriddhiman saha and Shibshankar Paul are also members of the council. This is the first time when a sports council for north Bengal has been set up.

Inaugurating the council, Bhutia said its main aim would be to promote sports in the seven districts of north Bengal. He said to promote cricket in north Bengal an Indian Premier League-style tournament would be held. However, the date of the tournament is yet to be finalised. He said as the ground is small, he would take up the matter with Cricket Association of Bengal president Sourav Ganguly.

পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মাননীয়া মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের উদ্যোগে নর্থ বেঙ্গল বোর্ড ফর ডেভেলপমেন্ট অফ স্পোর্টস অ্যান্ড গেমসের দপতরের উদ্বোধন হল। সোমবার শিলিগুড়িতে এই ক্রীড়া পর্ষদের উদ্বোধন করলেন টিম ইন্ডিয়ার ফুটবল অধিনায়ক ভাইচুং ভুটিয়া।

গত সপ্তাহে চার দিনের উত্তরবঙ্গ সফরে এসে এই পর্ষদ গঠনের কথা ঘোষণা করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। এই পর্ষদের মুখ্য উদ্দেশ্য হল উত্তরবঙ্গে ক্রীড়া পরিকাঠামো তৈরি করা।

বিভিন্ন স্কুলে খেলাধুলার প্রতিযোগিতার আয়োজন করবেন এই কাউন্সিল। অতীতে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী নিজেই খেলাধুলা সব স্কুলে বাধ্যতামূলক করতে চেয়েছিলেন।

এনবিবিএসজির চেয়ারম্যান হলেন ভাইচুং ভুটিয়া। ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান হলেন জাতীয় টেনিস চ্যাম্পিয়ন মণ্টু ঘোষ। মান ঘিসিং, ক্রিকেটার ঋদ্ধিমান সাহা, শিবশঙ্কর পাল এরাও এই পর্ষদের সদস্য। এই প্রথম উত্তরবঙ্গে কোন ক্রীড়া পর্ষদ গঠন হল।

এদিন এই পর্ষদের উদ্বোধনের পর ভুটিয়া বলেন, উত্তরবঙ্গের সাতটি জেলায় ক্রীড়া পরিকাঠামো ঢেলে সাজানোই এই পর্ষদের কাজ। তিনি বলেন ইতিমধ্যেই কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা স্টেডিয়ামে একদিনের একটি ক্রিকেট ম্যাচের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে। ম্যাচের দিন স্থির করা হবে। তিনি জানান স্টেডিয়ামটি যথেষ্ট ছোট, এব্যাপারে তিনি ক্রিকেট অ্যাসোসিয়েশন অফ বেঙ্গলের প্রেসিডেন্ট সৌরভ গাঙ্গুলির সঙ্গে কথা বলবেন।

Unique ideas to flood Mamata reality show ‘Egiye Bangla’

From a mechanism to clean river surfaces to a mobile app for ordering lip-smacking home-cooked food and a mobile app for tailor-made Dokra and other handicrafts – a variety of innovative ideas will be contesting for the top prize as 40 entrepreneurs across the state will appear in a novel TV reality show conceived by chief minister Mamata Banerjee and anchored by Sourav Ganguly and Jisshu Sengupta.

The format

The first episode of the show, titled Egiye Bangla, and funded by the state government, will be aired on December 6. Nine episodes, including the grand finale, will be aired on a private TV channel every Sunday evening.

This is the first business reality show in the country to be funded by any government.

The first phase of the reality show will feature 40 entrepreneurs in eight episodes. A panel of three judges – Bandhan Bank founder Chandra Sekhar Ghosh, restaurateur Anjan Chatterjee and IIM Calcutta professor Ashok Banerjee – will chose a winner from every episode.

The eight winners will appear in the grand finale. The champion, besides other assistance, would get equity funding worth nearly Rs 1 crore from the state government’s venture capital fund.

Promoting talent

  • Among the 40 contestants are a group of young passouts from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur. They have invented a mechanism to clean the surface of rivers and other water bodies, using inflatable technology. In this mechanism, a balloon sucks in the garbage on river surface.
  • Another young man from Bankura’s Bikna village, known for the Dokra craft, has come up with an app that helps Dokra craftsmen improve on their designs and deliver tailor-made products for customers who can connect with the artisans through the app. He is also consulting professors at IIT Kharagpur to make the Dokra crafts lead-free. The crafts do not get orders from abroad only because it contains lead.
  • A group of Kolkata-based youths have come up with a mobile app to connect homemakers and foodies who want to avoid sinful street food or items from restaurants. In this app, a collection of homemakers will announce what they will cook for the day and for how many individuals. The food will be delivered to the customer’s doorstep by those who have launched the app.
  • Another young man in the show will offer to install solar panels at your home/ office with the promise of realising the cost of solar panels and installation over a period of time. He will also promise that the monthly bill will be less than the current power bills.

Reality show to promote entrepreneurs ‘Egiye Bangla’ to go on air on 6 December

A plan to create greenery in and around urban homes, a logical reasoning module to strengthen mathematical skills of schoolkids and a chain of stores selling fresh juice that retains all the goodness of fruits.

Young entrepreneurs in Kolkata have such innovative business ideas and much more that could indeed help Bengal make a mark in the field of start-up enterprise.

Start-up plans such as these have come up in the business reality show ‘Egiye Bangla’, to be telecast every Sunday from December 6. A joint ini tiative of IIM-Calcutta and the state government the show aims at unearthing start-up ideas for entrepreneurship in business-starved Bengal.

An investor committee on the show will be as sessing the proposals, suggesting changes and eventually supporting the venture. Eight proposals have been shortlisted for the first two episodes being hosted by former India captain Saurav Ganguly and actor Jisshu Sengupta. They have left the panel of investors and those associated with the project mightily impressed.

The screening committee has already suggested certain changes to strengthen the modules and make the proposals business-friendly. The reality show will be telecast on Zee Bangla and will end with a final round in early February. More than 1,500 applications were received for the show from aspiring entrepreneurs across the state.

IIM-C will join hands with the state to identify prospective start-up entrepreneurs through the programme. As one of the top B-schools in the country , IIM-C will also help the winners set up incubation facilities in the innovation park on campus. The seed funding for the business plans identified as having prospects in future will be given by the MSME department.

WB CM felicitates football legend Pele

His birthday is still be some days away but football legend Pele had the celebrations here on Monday, as Academy Award winning music composer A.R. Rahaman sang the ‘Happy birthday’ jingle, and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly clapped in reverence.

Felicitated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Pele cut the birthday cake — in the shape of the Jules Rimet trophy that Brazil permanently won by triumphing in the 1970 World Cup – during a glittering ceremony at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, with thousands of fans of all ages chanting the legend’s name.

“We are indeed very happy to have Pele with us on the eve of Durga Puja, our biggest festival,” said the Chief Minister.

“Football pulsates us, thrills us. And Pele is an incredible icon in the world of football and sports. We are very very proud of him,” she wrote on her social media pages.

Website for registration in ‘Egiye Bangla’ launched

‘Egiye Bangla’- the reality show to target young entrepreneurs, with unique business ideas and help them to achieve their dreams, sponsored by the West Bengal Government has now opened up its website: http://egiyebangla.in/ for online registration.

The show is the brain child of the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and she has been promoting entrepreneurship over the last four years. It will be hosted by former captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly.

Anybody who is interested in setting up small and micro businesses can apply online for registering their names. Those living in the districts can also take up the assistance of the labour department officials in the district offices.

The State Government has already started campaigning through tableaus since September 22. The State Government has made it an issue not only to generate business ideas through the meetings of chambers of commerce and business meets but to get to the grassroot level and give every interested person to come up with innovative ideas.

In districts, committees have been formed under the leadership of the respective district magistrates and officials of different Government departments in order to gear up the publicity.

Egiye Bangla – New reality show to promote entrepreneurship in Bengal

The former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is well known for his television show Dadagiri and now he is heading to host another show and this time the request came from none other than Didi (Mamata Banerjee) to host Egiye Bangla – apni jokhon entrepreneur.

The show is being sponsored by Bengal government, as Mamata Banerjee wants to promote – Shilpo Karun, Bangla Gorun and for that small entrepreneurs are now being focused to create jobs.

Mamata Banerjee in her facebook post mentioned on Sunday:

“Bengal is launching an exclusive business reality show in Bengali. The show will target young entrepreneurs, with unique business ideas and help them to achieve their dreams. Our very own Sourav Ganguly has come forward to be the face of the show. Sourav will ignite young minds to be successful entrepreneurs of tomorrow.”

The show is the brain child of the Bengal Chief Minister as she had been preaching for long to create entrepreneurs and now to encourage green horns to be entrepreneurs this show is being planned.

The show will be aired in prime time in a Bengali channel, said Derek O’Brien Trinamool MP who is also involved in conceptualizing the TV show.
