BGBS 2016 has been the best business conclave in India: WB CM

The West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee addressed a press conference after the concluding ceremony of the Bengal Global Business Summit 2016. She said, “I am grateful to all industrialists, chambers of commerce and to the Central ministers for participating in the Bengal Global Business Summit.”

“The Chief Minister of Delhi, Prime Minister of Bhutan, ministers from Bangladesh and Britain and a minister from Bihar also participated. I am happy with everything that happened – from the participation of top industrialists to the big investments to the several MoUs signed,” she added.

Highlights of her speech:

  • Everyone were pleasantly surprised at the growth of Bengal, particularly the infrastructural growth.
  • This despite so much debt the Central govt is deducting, which is over Rs 1 lakh crore.
  • I had requested the UPA government, and now the NDA government regarding this. A solution is needed in the interest of West Bengal.
  • Despite paying the debts, we have doubled revenue collection during the last 4-1/2 years.
  • We have published a book regarding the achievements of Bengal; because  data always speaks the truth, irrespective of what one thinks or feels.
  • We have projects worth Rs 2,50,104 crore in hand; more investments are on the way.
  • With so many delegates from Asian and European countries, and from India, Bengal Global Business Summit was a huge success.
  • I am always in favor of a federal structure.
  • A federal structure is like the relation between parents (Centre) & children (States). If their relationship is good, everything is good.
  • I think politics and development are independent of each other. We must separate the two.
  • We have to help each other. If the Centre asks for positive and constructive help, we will provide it.
  • We’ll support GST because of our commitment. We’ll support Land Bill if our reservations & observations are taken into account; I will support federalism.
  • There have been no assurances from the Centre yet regarding the restructuring of the State’s debt payments.
  • Regarding coming back to power in 2016, we believe that people would support the continuity of the good work that has been done.
  • This year’s summit was better than last year’s, and next year’s would be better still.
  • Bengal Global Business Summit 2016 has been the best business conclave in India.
  • Last year, investment proposals worth RS 2,43,000 crore came, of which Rs 95,000 crore worth work is going on; the rest of the proposals are being processed.
  • I want the good of my State as well as of my neighbours. West Bengal is the gateway.

Debabrata Bandyopadhyay’s statement: My comments were misinterpreted

Statement by D Bandyopadhyay, Rajya Sabha MP:

I am a soldier of Trinamool Congress and a committed party worker. I joined Trinamool inspired by Mamata Banerjee’s honesty and organisational capabilities.

My statement has been misinterpreted. I did not mean it. All I said was that dissenting voices were normal in any democratic party.

Those of us who come from non-political background need to be extra careful in the future in what we say because our general statements are being misconstrued.

I had never meant that the leadership was slack or immune to it. I have the highest regards for Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool. I will be a member of the party till my last breath.

There is no question of my leaving the party… I am 100%… 500% with Trinamool.

Do not play these dirty games, Mr Jaitley: Derek O`Brien

National Spokesperson of Trinamool and Chief Whip in Rajya Sabha, Derek O’Brien today addressed a press conference at New Delhi today.

He slammed the Union Finance Minister for resorting to weekend bytes to put a spin to things. He also accused the BJP of targeting the Trinamool.

Here is what Derek O’Brien said:

  • Mr Jaitley is FMFrustrated Minister – because he cannot get any bills passed in the Parliament.
  • Mr Jaitley is FM – the Falsehood Minister. We have filed two Privilege Notices against Mr Jaitley – one for misleading the House on Christmas issue and the other for lying to the House on Sarada case. Paragraph 39 of SC verdict states that SC has not appointed a Monitoring team for CBI probe in Sarada case.
  • Two days of Parliament are still left. If Mr Jaitley thinks he has seen the best of TMC, he is wrong.
  • Insurance Bill is not a reform. It is only being touted as a reform. This is not about TMC. This is about the nation as a whole. We do not need these so-called reforms.
  • Seven-eight parties parties are united in the Opposition. May be Mr Jaitley has made some promises to his Boss, which we are not aware of.
  • Let us not get into scams because I can also throw mud. Let us bring issues like that of the BCCI into the public domain. Let us see who is in charge and who is pulling strings in the BCCI.
  • It is unbecoming of the Finance Minister, who is also the Information & Broadcasting Minister, to put spins to certain things.
  • I raised a question in the Rajya Sabha yesterday, and I repeat it today. Were the Finance Ministers called? Yes, we are for GST. But the way these things are being done is not correct.
  • On the floor of the Rajya Sabha, political reality is there. BJP should pull up old records and see how they used to disrupt the Rajya Sabha. The BJP is now trying to find the villain of the piece and pass the buck on to Trinamool.
  • Mr Jaitley cannot use weekend bytes to try and put spin to things. Not at all. Not acceptable. This is not about Trinamool. This is about a United Opposition.
  • BJP should fight us politically. Do not play these dirty games, Mr Jaitley. Do not make it a street-slanging match.
  • Spinning media can help win election campaigns, but governance is serious business.
Press Conference

No place for divisive politics in Bengal: Trinamool

Terming the rally by Vishwa Hindu Parishad at Shahid Minar a “Black Day” for Bengal, he said “Shahid Minar has a heritage. Never before has a dangabaaj rally been held there.”

Subrata Mukherjee, who is also the rural development minister, added, “We work for poor people. We do not discriminate between anyone on the basis of religion.”

He urged the people of Bengal to uphold the tradition of the State and reject the divisive politics and protect the cultural unity of Bengal.

BJP using CBI for political vendetta: Mamata Banerjee

Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee addressed the press in Parliament today. She is in New Delhi to visit the President.

In her speech she said Trinamool Congress has no connection with any chit fund scam.

Here are the highlights of her speech:

Trinamool won 34 seats in the Lok Sabha election. But I could not come to visit them in Parliament earlier. So I have come here today.

  • Trinamool has no connection with any chit fund scam.
  • People who are cheating people in the name of chit funds are illegal.
  • Chit funds come under Centre’s jurisdiction. It comes under RBI and SEBI. States are not empowered to act.
  • We passed a Bill in State Assembly to regulate chit funds. But Centre has not responded on it till now.
  • What were RBI and SEBI doing when chit funds were set up?
  • Not just Saradha, why have they not acted against any other chit funds?
  • There is a chit fund called PACL which looted Rs 47000 crore. Why no action has been taken against them?
  • We arrested the Saradha chit fund owner. We set up a commission and gave money back to 5 lakh people.
  • Why have they not returned a penny after CBI took over investigation?
  • We are the only Government who returned money back to poor investors.
  • Mother of thieves shouts the loudest. They are politicizing the issue.
  • CBI was given the case of Tagore’s Nobel theft. They failed to crack the case. CBI has failed in Singur, Nandigram, Netai.
CBI is being used for political vendetta.
  • People who are working transparently are being branded thieves and the real thieves are running the country.
  • Democracy cannot be bulldozed. We are fighting battle against BJP which is why they are jealous.
  • Why they said Bhaag, bhaag bhaag? Koi nahin bhaagega… janta aap logon ko bhagayega.

I dare the Prime Minister and BJP leadership to arrest me: Mamata Banerjee

Trinamool Chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee addressed a press conference today.

She dared the PM to arrest her. Saying that Trinamool will counter the BJP politically, she added that BJP will bite the dust in upcoming elections.

Highlights of her speech:

  • Within few hours of being called for interrogation, Madan was arrested. Isn’t this political vendetta?
  • Few days ago, a BJP leader held a rally in Kolkata. He gave the sequence of arrests. CBI is acting as per that sequence.
  • After coming to power, we never arrested anyone based on political vendetta. Despite the atrocities committed by CPM for 34 years, we did not arrest them.
  • BJP is misusing power at Centre.
  • There is a company in Delhi, located near Finance Ministry, which has misappropriated funds worth thousands of crores.
  • Are Sourav and Sachin criminals for playing under Sahara sponsorship?
  • Several media houses took advertisement from chit funds. Has any action been taken against them?
  • We go to several programmes and events. Do we always enquire which company is sponsoring it?
  • What CBI has done is wrong. It is illegal, unconstitutional.
  • They have arrested a Minister without informing the Government or Speaker. Bad precedent has been set.
  • BJP is destroying the federal structure of Constitution.
  • One Union Minister wants to make Gita the National Holy Book. India is a secular country. Constitution is the Holy Book. There are so many reports of conversions. What is their priority?
  • They are crossing their jurisdiction. BJP party cadre and Central Government are crossing all limits.
  • Few days ago at a rally, BJP raised the slogan “Bhaag Mamata Bhaag”. Should we say “Bhaag BJP Bhaag from India”?
What is the Centre doing about Black Money?
  • A man who has himself been arrested and charge sheeted by CBI are pointing fingers at us.
  • Where is so much money coming from to sponsor the foreign trips of Prime Minister?
  • This is a conspiracy to attack democracy. Central Government is trying to finish off democracy in India.
  • I dare the Prime Minister and BJP Leadership to arrest me.
  • Centre is attacking Bengal. Centre is defaming Bengal’s culture.
  • We will protest against the Centre in Bengal and Delhi. We will protest in Parliament. The Central Government is acting like cowards.
  • All people of Bengal are my assets. If Centre arrests even one person illegally, I will protest.
  • They are trying to incite riots in Bengal. Central Government is run by RSS.
  • BJP cannot take the Nation for granted. They got only 31% votes. They cannot sell off the country.
  • This is a dangerous and disastrous game. This is undemocratic, unethical and unconstitutional.
  • The Centre is behaving like an autocrat.
  • Trinamool Congress will hit the streets from tomorrow in protests.
  • We will not tolerate any plans to insult the soil of Bengal.
  • My government condemns the arrest of Madan Mitra in the strictest of terms.
  • I will go to SSKM hospital to meet Madan Mitra. I dare Narendra Modi and Amit Shah to arrest me.
  • A new battle has begun. We accept your challenge. BJP will bite the dust in upcoming elections.
  • We do not seek power. We are ready to support any party which wants to fight against BJP.
  • The situation in India is like Emergency now.
  • Madan had submitted a resignation letter before going to CBI office. But I have not accepted it. He continues as Transport Minister.
  • So many leaders of CPM have been seen with owners of chit funds. Should we arrest them?
  • Agenda of governance will not be affected by politics.
