Bengal Finance Minister Dr Amit Mitra on Wednesday staged a walkout from a pre-Budget meeting saying there was ‘financial emergency and ‘political environment of fear’ in the country.

Dr Mitra, who was in full attendance at the two-day meeting of the GST Council chaired by the Union Finance Minister that ended on Wednesday, said the Union Budget had become a “meaningless” exercise after Prime Minister, in his address to the nation on new year’s eve, made announcements similar to a Budget presentation.

He said that before walking out, he made the Union Finance Minister, who had called the meeting, hear the expectations of States on his fourth budget to be presented on February 1 and also make him aware of the “financial emergency” imposed by demonetisation and the job losses it has led to. “I wanted the Finance Minister to hear the reality on the ground, the financial emergency in the country, the political environment of fear all around,” he told after emerging from the meeting.

The Trinamool Congress, he said, is on Wednesday is demonstrating against “the political emergency that seems to have happened at every nook and corner on every matter.”  Dr Mitra also said currency demonetiation has led to closure of small industries and left hundreds jobless across the country, including the BJP-ruled States.

দেশজুড়ে চলা ‘আর্থিক জরুরি অবস্থা’ এবং কেন্দ্রের প্রতিহিংসার রাজনীতির প্রতিবাদ করে বুধবার কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের প্রাক বাজেট বৈঠক বয়কট করেন অর্থমন্ত্রী অমিত মিত্র। তিনি বলেন, নোট বাতিলের পর দেশে অর্থনৈতিক জরুরি অবস্থা চলছে৷ এই পরিস্থিতিতে প্রাক-বাজেট নিয়ে আলোচনা অর্থহীন৷

দুদিনের জিএসটি সংক্রান্ত বৈঠক সেশের পর বুধবার ছিল প্রাক বাজেট সেশন। তাঁর অভিযোগ। “প্রধানমন্ত্রী ইতিমধ্যেই বাজেটের সমস্ত বিষয় ঘোষণা করে দিয়েছেন। তাই বাজেট এখন গুরুত্বহীন বিষয়। ইতিহাসে এই প্রথমবার বাজেট গুরুত্বহীন হয়ে গেল। আমি এর প্রতিবাদ করে অয়াক আউট করলাম”।

এদিন সাংবাদিকদের সামনে ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করে অর্থমন্ত্রী বলেন, নোটবাতিলের পর থেকে জাতীয় অর্থনীতির মেরুদণ্ড ভেঙে গেছে। যার প্রভাব পড়েছে সারা রাজ্যে।  বিভিন্ন কলকারখানা, ক্ষুদ্র ব্যবসা বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে। শ্রমিকরা মজুরি পাচ্ছেন না।

তাঁর অভিযোগ শুধুমাত্র অর্থনৈতিক জরুরি অবস্থা নয় দেশ জুড়ে ভয়াবহ পরিস্থিতি তৈরি হয়েছে। ভয়ের রাজনীতি চলছে।
