No place for divisive politics in Bengal: Trinamool

Senior Trinamool leader Subrata Mukherjee today strongly condemned the divisive politics being practiced by a section of people in Bengal. At a press conference at Trinamool Bhavan, he said, “Bengal does not discriminate among people on the basis of caste, creed or religion.”

He added, “When millions of people came across the border in 1971 we gave them shelter. This is the greatness of Bengal. We abhor the politics of division. There is no place for even parochialism in Bengal.”

Terming the rally by Vishwa Hindu Parishad at Shahid Minar a “Black Day” for Bengal, he said “Shahid Minar has a heritage. Never before has a dangabaaj rally been held there.”

Subrata Mukherjee, who is also the rural development minister, added, “We work for poor people. We do not discriminate between anyone on the basis of religion.”

He urged the people of Bengal to uphold the tradition of the State and reject the divisive politics and protect the cultural unity of Bengal.

Secretary General of the party, Partha Chatterjee told reporters, “CBI is being used as a political tool. Sportspersons protested against the manner in which Sports Minister was arrested. Protests will be held in every district against the politics of vendetta.”

CBI being used to crush the prestige of Trinamool: Partha Chatterjee

A delegation of senior Trinamool leaders – Partha Chatterjee, Subrata Mukherjee, Manish Gupta, Shashi Panja and Chandrima Bhattacharya – met the Governor on Friday.

Those involved in mushrooming of chit fund business in Bengal were now taking out rallies and shedding crocodile tears, Partha Chatterjee said while addressing the media after the meeting.

He said, “The Supreme Court has asked the CBI to investigate the scam. But in the name of investigation, the CBI is arresting only TMC leaders. If they feel that TMC leaders are culprits let them chargesheet them. But the CBI is being used to crush our prestige.”

“We have said that money should be returned to all people who have lost their deposits since 1980s in chit funds. Why the people under whose rule chit fund business started in state were not arrested,” he added.

“We talked about the way our minister has been arrested by CBI. The governor said neither he nor the Raj Bhavan knew about the arrest. Just like our chief minister and Assembly speaker were kept in dark about the arrest,” he said.

Stating that the TMC regime has arrested Saradha Group Chairman and returned money to five lakh duped investors, the minister said they urged the governor to see that the bill passed by the state Assembly is cleared by the Centre as early as possible.

Para teachers to get salary hike and other facilities: Partha Chatterjee

Para teachers will soon get a salary hike along with a bunch of other facilities that will come their way soon, said Partha Chatterjee, Education Minister on Thursday.

The minister has said that previously various teachers’ organisation had placed several demands one of which was a hike in salary by 50 per cent.

The para teachers, so far, could not avail the facility of employees’ provident fund (EPF) but EPF facilities, as confirmed by the minister, would be given to them soon.

Partha Chatterjee also said that maternity leave of women para teachers would be increased to 180 days from 135 days.

With the enhancement of facilities and salary hike, however, comes expectation of better services from them. Criteria of eligibility would be changed with many changes like age bar and other degree related requirements coming in place.

“With increased facilities, come better qualities of services. Society has an expectation from them and surely they are doing good job and they will continue to do so,” said the education minister.
