West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday said she would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the state beginning Saturday and give him a memorandum regarding development of the state.

“It’s a courtesy of the government to meet the PM and (we will) give him a memorandum regarding the development of the state,” she told reporters here.

“There are some schemes where funds have been stopped. I have to talk regarding why the funds have been stopped. I’ve to talk to him why the funds were stopped for my Jangalmahal (tribal area in south Bengal),” the chief minister said.

The PM is scheduled to pay a two-day visit to West Bengal starting May 9.

“We cannot stop all social sector programmes because social sector is the backbone of society. It is our responsibility to help the poor. We will fulfil our social commitments,” she said. “The Centre has also curtailed funds for Sarbasikhya Abhiyan, 100 days work … Despite all these the development works are still on,” she stated.

Talking about the development review meeting with senior government officials earlier in the day, Banerjee said, “We had discussion on varied subjects starting from 100 days work, mid-day meal, tourism, potato cultivation, malnutrition, tea, small scale industry, women and child.”

Partha Chatterjee, Secretary General, All India Trinamool Congress, today addressed a press conference at Trinamool Bhavan.

Here is what he said:

  • Today’s BJP rally at Bardhaman was a flop-show. Main speaker’s speech lasted only a few minutes.
  • People who have no capacity to bloom shapla, are talking of lotus blooming in Bengal.
  • I hope Amit babu has understood it is difficult for lotus to bloom in Bengal.
  • The political culture of Bengal has no place for bad utterances like “Bhaag Bhaag”.
  • Mamata Banerjee has a long history of struggle and people’s movements in Bengal. BJP has no such history.
  • BJP’s campaign is based on only propaganda. They want to uproot TMC from power through missed calls.
  • If Rahul Sinha cared about Bengal, he would speak out against Center’s negligence towards the State.
  • The way Mr Rahul Sinha used the name of a particular community, in a derogatory manner, is deplorable.

The nasty ploy of using CBI as a political tool by BJP continues. They could not fight us politically in Bengal in Lok Sabha elections, so now these dirty tactics months before corporation elections. We will fight them – strongly, politically.

This is blatant vindictiveness. The so-called summons have not yet reached and BJP honchos are already giving bytes. Is the CBI being run by Narendra Modi’s office? Or by Amit Shah at BJP HQ?

This is a deliberate bid to try and finish all regional parties and they are doing this against many states. Trinamool functioned almost as the main Opposition party in Parliament. By doing this the BJP hopes to silence us. This devious strategy of theirs will not succeed, because, we do not succumb. We fight politically.

CBI has become a frontal office for BJP. People will hit the streets against the political vindictiveness by BJP. Party workers, supporters and common people will protest against BJP’s misuse of CBI in every block of the State. We urge our workers not to indulge in road-blockade and bandh politics. বিজেপি সিবিআইকে রাজনৈতিক হাতিয়ার হিসেবে ক্রমাগত ব্যাবহার করে যাচ্ছে। বাংলায় বিজেপি লোকসভা নির্বাচনে  রাজনৈতিক ভাবে পরাজিত হয়েছিল। সেই জন্য পুরসভা নির্বাচনের এক মাস আগে থেকে তারা এই নোংরা কৌশল নিয়েছে। আমরা ওঁদের বিরুদ্ধে দৃঢ়তার সঙ্গে রাজনৈতিকভাবে লড়ব।

একটা ভয়ঙ্কর প্রতিহিংসার খেলা চলছে। সমন এসে পৌঁছানোর আগেই বিজেপির দলীয় মুখপাত্ররা বাইট দিতে শুরু করেছেন।

সিবিআই কি নরেন্দ্র মোদির দপ্তরের নির্দেশেই চলছে? নাকি বিজেপির অমিত সাহের নির্দেশে? খুব নিপুণভাবে সমস্ত আঞ্চলিক দলগুলোকে শেষ করে দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করা হচ্ছে আর অন্যান্য রাজ্যেও তারা একই জিনিস করে চলেছে।

তৃণমূলই সংসদে প্রধান বিরোধী দলের ভূমিকা পালন করছে। এই সব করে ওরা আমাদের মুখ বন্ধ করতে পারবে না। এদের এই ভ্রান্ত কৌশল কখনই সফল হবে না। আমরা কখনই হেরে যাব না। রাজনৈতিকভাবে আন্দোলন আমরা চালিয়ে যাব।
